Blogging and Writing Advice: Keep it Evergreen!

Have been an active member of HUBPages.com, a popular online writing community, since 2013.  The HP editors give you a lot of freedom to write about almost anything and everything!  But the best piece of advice they provided was to always encourage the writers to publish evergreen content, which is content that's sort of “timeless”, meaning write about a topic today that 5 to 10 years later, people will still be searching for information about it.  In other words, there is a great probability that your articles will be found via an organic search for years to come and will generate residual income for you.  This has proven to be true with my articles.

As of today, my author's profile* shows twenty (20) HUBs or articles. My pages get some traffic but they aren't viral. The content is stuff like history, movies, books, real estate, etc. Those are evergreen. Right? My fellow freelance writer, Julie-Ann Amos, who is also a professional writer, has published almost 600 articles. She picked a topic that was so off-the-wall!! It's evergreen alright! She wrote it in 2 Parts. Bet you can't guess what it is! Must say that when the site owners said they encouraged evergreen material, but this particular topic never occurred to me. Hint: It's a beauty and fashion tip.

Should We Get Rid Of Religion? | Response to Article by HUBPages Contributor Nell Rose

Whenever people ask a question and use the word “religion” my response is always the same. I have followed this definition for religion ever since I read it in the epistle written by James the apostle.
“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27)
In the first part of the definition, you're lending a helping hand to the needy.

In the second part of the definition, the only person whose way of life and behavior you're responsible for “controlling” is your own!

Even if there were not a God looking down at what you do, why wouldn't you do it anyway? So why get rid of it?

  • Don't you want to exercise your own free will over your own life?
  • Don't you have compassion for those who are less fortunate and want to help them if you can?
It's a neat and simple rule, principle, or guideline to follow.

You want to get rid of something?

Get rid of people who abuse, oppress, and kill other people and claim they have the “authority” to do it in the name of “religion”.

Of course … that's not so simple.

Good HUB! Very thought-provoking.
A lively discussion going on over at:

How would you answer this question??

The above remarks are my comments left behind. Re-sharing here at my blog because when “thought bursts” like these come to me, sometimes it's good to keep a backup record of them elsewhere.  :)

Should Churches be Tax-Exempt? | HUBpages Contributor Catherine Giordano

It seems the U.S. laws regarding tax exemptions for churches, other religious institutions, and non-profit organizations is a carryover from the days of Emperor Constantine.

But is it really a good idea?

This matter being discussed thoroughly at an article written by HUBPages Contributor Catherine Giordano.

Should Churches beTax-Exempt?

These are only partial comments submitted by me and approved by the author.  Completed comments are a bit "windy".  :)
Fair? Unfair? Tax? No tax? Interesting discussion but for the faithful, it's just “much ado about nothing”. Speaking with respect to Christians. Can't speak for the mission of other religious organizations and non-profits, but the mission of the body of Christ is clearly spelled out in Matthew 28: 19 – 20 (and other scriptures). If you don't tax the church, we'll carry out the mission. If you tax the church, we'll carry out the mission. Jesus left the example. He didn't argue about paying taxes. He paid the tax and carried on with His work. (Matthew 22: 21) So the question has already been answered. Whatever the government in any country decides to do ... i.e. taxing, imprisonment, etc, ... the “laborers” will continue God's work until “The Harvest”. Christians don't need government support or approval to know and to do what is right.

You will find many HUBpages article links shared via this blog.  HUBPages is a spirited community where one can usually find intelligent conversation and interesting reading material on all kinds of subjects; not just religion and politics and history, which are usually my interests.  It gives me great pleasure to direct readers to pages penned by my fellow freelance writers.  Why should I have all the fun?  :)

Online Writing Communities : HUBPages Earnings Can Be Inherited

A while back I read a complaint that someone had passed away but that the site was still earning income from the deceased writer's articles.

First of all, though that may sound not quite “kosher”, there's actually nothing wrong or illegal with doing that. If the writer did not make any provisions for the account to be transferred to a “beneficiary” then earnings go to the site owners. Who else?

Today, however, I found this detailed information that made it plain what the site's policy and procedures are. If you happen to be a HUBPages Contributor, “Your HUBPages Income Can Be Inherited”.  This is not "my story".  It is the journey of another HP Contributor, Amy (Happymommy2520).  If you're interested in my journey, see the links below.

Appreciate the clarification. Good to know and good to know what to do with my HUBs. The content is evergreen and my HUBs do earn income, slowly but surely. There's no need to delete them after I'm gone.  No doubt the residual income would be welcomed.

Legends, Myths, Fables, Folklore, Culture on Pinterest

My Pinterest account is a business account, thanks to the graciousness of the company owners. It also includes collections that are not business-related. The boards had been created when the account was a personal account and even though I converted to a business account, I kept the my pinboards.

One of my favorite personal collections is Legends, Myths,Fables, Folklore, Culture.

"Pegasus is one of the best known creatures in Greek mythology. He is a winged divine stallion also known as a horse usually depicted as pure white in color. He was sired by Poseidon, in his role as horse-god, and foaled by the Gorgon Medusa." Wikipedia

If you have some free time, you really should visit and peruse my pins. My collection includes what the usual that Westerners have come to expect when you say the word “mythology”, i.e. winged horses, unicorns and Greco-Roman gods and goddesses.

But there are also pins for anything and everything from Poliahu, the Hawaiian snow goddess TO A List of Poisonous Plants and Herbs and Their Lore.

Collected some information about nymphs.  Publishing the post here and will share it via Pinterest.  Enjoy!

(P.S.  I'm also expanding my collection to Tumblr.  See my first reblogged post below.)

The Seven Kings of Rome

The Seven Kings of Rome

There was once a group of villages on seven hills which grew into an empire. But how did it happen? During the reign of Emperor Augustus, the historian Livy (Titus Livius) gathered myths, legends, folklore (possibly adding in facts and information that could be verified or authenticated by others) and wrote down the story of how the Roman Empire came to be.
