The Chocolate Lady's Book Reviews: Five (or seven) GOOD things to come out of 2016 (Reblog)

Happy to reblog and share this Featured Post from a fellow blogger, Davida Chazan, who is a "Go To" person if you're searching for good reads. Here is her suggested reading for 2016:

The Chocolate Lady's Book Reviews: Five (or seven) GOOD things to come out of 2016

Her reviews and other writings are so good I invited her to contribute to my group board on Pinterest: Freelance Writer. We crossed paths because we both contribute short posts to a site called "Daily Two Cents".  This site has a revenue-share plan for those who have a Google Ad Sense account and allows you to earn 100% of your commissions, if your post includes an affiliate referral link.  It's reasonable.  Don't you think?  This is the link to her DTC profile: drchazan aka Chocolate Lady.
(This is my DTC author profile, if you're interested: cmoneyspinner, if you're interested.)

Book lovers will probably appreciate her faves lists for previous years too!

Chocolate Lady's Favorite Books of 2015

Chocolate Lady's Favorite Books of 2013

I love her blog's tagline.  It reads:

  • Davida Chazan's Blog for mostly book reviews and literary musings (and maybe some chocolate).

What a hook!  So of course I had to find something chocolate at her blog.  Found it!

The REAL Chocolate Wars

The REAL Chocolate Wars

It's all because of Ms. Brenner's writing style. Ms. Brenner brings even the very mundane into the world of extreme interest. She makes much out of the intrigue so that although it's really economics, it's still interesting. She works her way around marketing so that it's suddenly as moving as a love scene.

Google Plus Collections Feature - Where to Next?

In May 2015, I published a quick post via Daily Two Cents titled Google Plus Collections Feature to express my excitement about this new feature added to the Google Plus social network. Started experimenting with it by creating three (3) collections for my foodie business page, Everyday Exotic Spices.  Was it worth the effort?  Let me share some info and stats.

CHEESE Meltdown

A collection devoted to cheese lovers everywhere. Smile and say cheese!

Concluded my DTC post with this paragraph:

"Where to next? Not a clue. It’s an adventure! Just set up my groupings 3 days ago and don’t have a prediction. However, can say (1) it’s easy and fun; and (2) it appears these Collections are going to add value to my overall Internet experience, business-wise and otherwise."

Well this post is about where I went next.
Follow along!

Created several more G+ collections.  One more for my foodie page; one for my shopping business page; two for my work-at-home / home business brand account; and three for my profile.  Why?  Why not??  It's easy to do.  G+  posts are indexed.  It's a "type" of advertising.  It is very similar to Pinterest with respect to organizing items of interests to you.  Also, you can add your shares from several years back and retrieve them later if they are in your collection. (G+ users probably know how hard can be sometimes to find your old posts.)   It's sort of like Facebook memories, but not quite.  Here is a list of my new collections created since 2015.

My First Blog Post at My Blog Stop! Welcome! (UPDATE)

My first blog post (My First Blog Post at My Blog Stop! Welcome!) was dated 2014. Don't laugh! Yes.  There are a lot of strikethroughs.  To borrow from Alanis Morissette's song lyrics: "You live. You learn."

It's almost the end of 2016 and this blog is still here!!

The American Thanksgiving holiday is next week and that this blog has not been deleted is on my list of things to be thankful for.  :)

Here is the list of my blogs (or blogging attempts, if your prefer).  Obviously I don't have to include this one on this list, since you're here and reading this.

Below are sample posts. Hope you are impressed! :)

Suspected Terrorists, Taking Liberties, and the “Present Distress” in America

These words were shared publicly by me, Jan 20, 2012 via my Google Plus profile. Deleted the share and am republishing it via my blog because we just went through the 2016 election and now have a new President Elect. This is not about Trump. It's about Obama (who will soon be history) and about a book. Publishing the content here as it may be relevant to the “present distress” in America.

[Yes I know I'm quoting scripture but my statement is political. Read the entire post and you will clearly understand the application. I ain't preaching. I'M SCREAMING!!]

Acts 16: 37-38  ~ But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily?nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out. And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans. …

Acts 25: 11-12  ~ For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Caesar. Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Caesar? unto Caesar shalt thou go.

* I’m not really a devoted fan of cable TV. But the remote control does make it very easy for me to fall asleep. The news channels in particular are excellent for insomnia. So I was flipping the channels and came across a program called The Young Turks. I paused for a few minutes to listen to the discussion with the ACLU representative who also wrote a book called Taking Liberties. Evidently Obama signed a bill that obliterates the liberty of every American citizen – those in the USA and those who are abroad. (That’s what I heard!)

* yadda yadda ... blah blah ... Something or other about citizens suspected as terrorists being arrested and detained indefinitely. Of course, to his credit, the current POTUS said he would never do that. (Uh huh. Well that’s comforting.)

* So here’s the situation: Whether or not the current President chooses to enforce NDAA (??? not sure about the alphabets), it can be enforced.

* UM … THAT’S CRAP!!!

* If you agree or disagree, you better take the liberty to say so. Because IF ENFORCED and you get arrested and detained indefinitely as a suspected terrorist, unlike the Apostle Paul, you probably won’t be able to appeal to anybody cause WON’T NOBODY KNOW WHERE YOU AT!!

For the record: I’m not a card-carrying member of the ACLU. That’s Bruce Willis.  (joking)

{The link is to the book Taking Liberties. In the interest of disclosure, I’m an Amazon Associate, so if you purchase the book via this link I earn income. But whether you buy the book or not, the NDAA IS STILL CRAP!!!}

On the matter of Maher versus Limbaugh versus Obama versus whatever that preacher’s name who made the remarks about God damning America versus MSNBC versus Fox news. I gotta say all the chatter made me think.

** If an individual known by reputation as a person who makes outlandish, even insulting remarks about other individuals and does this for a living – if this individual decides to donate money to a – church or mosque or temple or orphan home or hospital or community civic center or an educational institution – or any organization where other individuals either work and/or provide services to other individuals – should we demand that these organizations give back the money?

** I say … if it’s a government organization, YES!

** So … is a PAC, a super one or a non-super one - a government organization?

** Also … should every comedian and radio talk show or person who is always in the public's eye or ears - be either be barred from opening their mouths or barred from making donations with the money they earn from opening their mouths?

- It’s something to ponder. We have to think about this because nobody wants to think about not insulting people when money is a factor.

Religion within the limits of my reason: Christianity and IS (Reblog)

Below is a link from a blog that I am occasionally invited to read and my comments are being provided in the form of a blog post because it is too much information to be included in a Comments box.  (You can refer to the statements as "my crazy thoughts" if you don't want to call it "information".)

MY COMMENTS:

In Judaeo-Christian history, for the period between the Testaments (which many in our circles refer to as Malachi to Matthew), there were no prophets. Before Jesus arrived there was one prophet, known as John the Baptist, “the voice of one crying in the wilderness”. His “voice” was to let others know the Messiah was come. He accomplished his mission and lost his head. By the time of his death, the ministry of Jesus was in full force. The ministry lasted for 3 years. Jesus also accomplished His mission, was crucified, died, resurrected, ascended back up to heaven and now “has all authority in heaven and in earth”.

By His authority he never authorized the killing of anybody!

Jesus made it very clear to Pontius Pilate and others while He was here on the earth, that His kingdom is not of this world.

John 18:36
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

His disciples were COMMANDED to Go into all the world and preach the gospel. He who believes and is baptized and shall be saved.”  Converts are not to be FORCED into conversion.  They must hear the Word, believe it, become convinced and convicted of sin in their life, repent (turn away from the sin), publicly confess that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God, and be baptized for the forgiveness of the sins and they are "born again", a new creature, prepared to live a sanctified life and work out their soul salvation.

Christians don't want to conquer or rule the world!

We just want to live our lives in peace on this earth being a "peculiar people, zealous of good works", and go to heaven when we die!

If we can not live our lives in peace, without persecution, then whatever happens in this life … it's God's will.  We were also warned that we would be persecuted FOR OUR FAITH.  We trust Him.  All we need to do is stay faithful.

Romans 8:33-39

33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

As for ISIS, the establishment of the Caliphate, etc., etc. and any other movement based on religious, philosophical, political or any basis or foundation for their motivations and mission to gain power IN THIS WORLD … as far as faithful Christians KNOW … “this too shall pass”.

The Passion

Often if an article is about to discuss a topic that can be categorized as "religion", the author may feel the need to state that the writing is not an attempt to convert people to their "way", i.e. beliefs, convictions, faith, etc. Point noted. However that same point can not be made by me.

The Bing Bing BUY Button | Writedge (Tips for the Home Biz Entrepreneur)

This blog post supplies a summary update to my article The Bing Bing BUY Button | Writedge which was published July 2015.  The update is a contrast and comparison to my Pinterest experience.

Although The Bing Bing site has a lot of good features, it falls way behind Pinterest in search engine ranking. Pinterest has introduced “RichPins” (same as The Bing Bing Buy button), they allow users to convert personal accounts to business accounts, and account holders can also “Promote Pins”.  For this reason, as a home biz entrepreneur, most of my social media marketing efforts are devoted to maintaining my Pinterest profile.

Create Web Page with Netboard.me | Writedge is a related or similar article published March 2015 about another site which was presented as a Pinterest alternative.  Though the features of Netboard are different from The Bing Bing, the above update results in me making the same decision to choose Pinterest.

Inside AdSense: AdSense help, when and where you need it (Reblog)

How many times have you come close to pulling out all of your hair because you couldn't find an answer to a question about Google AdSense? Never? Ok! Then it's just me who is doing a happy dance in my chair because I finally struck gold!

It's a Q & A gold mine of questions and answers about AdSense.

Where is it?  Uumm … at an official Google blog. (O.o)

Please! Don't ask me to supply a logical explanation for why I never looked! All I can say is sometimes the things that are clear and obvious don't always register in my brain. I'm like the rest of the brilliant scientists who get credit for their discoveries. Found out accidentally!  It's been discovered and that's what counts!

Another Awesome Discovery!

Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: A reminder about widget links (Reblog)

The problem of unnatural links and page ranking.

I subscribe and receive notifications when posts are published via the:

Official Google Webmaster Central Blog and the

Google Search Console Team.

I keep the eMails, even though most of the time I don't know how to implement their suggestions.  (Should have kept up with technology. The learning curve is steep!)

I appreciate this REMINDER post from the Google god very much because now I know what “add a rel="nofollow" attribute” is for.

As for intentionally manipulating page rank? (Genius geek I am not!)

  • Why don't the widget makers themselves put that attribute into their own widgets?

  • Why would the users know or even be concerned? All we know is it says “free widgets” and the widgets work!!

Just sayin'.  Just asking!  Seems like the widget maker ought to be responsible. They use the Internet too and should know about page ranking, etc.

Nevertheless, the statements about Google's webspam team performing manual intervention and notification via the Search Console is completely understood.

But … huge question mark … BUT?  But that sort of indicates that sometimes your site can get ZAPPED by non-manual intervention? Doesn't it? (???)

Publishing this post as a marker.

Today is September 8, 2016. I regularly check my messages in the Search Console dashboard and have not received any “Warnings” Whew!

Who Qualifies As a Talented Photographer? | BlogJob.com (Reblog)

Do you know who qualifies as a talented photographer?

– Do you have to be granted special access to take pictures of famous people like John and Jackie Kennedy or celebrities like Beyoncé and Bobbie De Niro?

– Do you have to be able to capture images of the horrors of war or destruction caused by natural disasters that will (hopefully) never be repeated again?

– Do you have to own a camera?

Prince Guitar To Be Auctioned In Beverly Hills - losangeles.cbslocal.com

Ever since it was publicized that Prince died without leaving a will, my curiosity is peaked and want to know how his assets will be divided up. My first post on this topic was:

Celebrity Deaths: Prince’s Purple Rain Coat Going Up for Auction — TIME.com

This is the second news headline:

Prince Guitar To Be Auctioned In Beverly Hills - losangeles.cbslocal.com

A bright yellow, uniquely shaped guitar used by Prince to perform such tunes as 'Cream' and 'Gett Off' is going up for auction.

Bet you're imagining yourself playing that guitar, aren't you?  Or at least holding it.

The Story of Qu Yuan and the Duan Wu (Dragon Boat) Festival

My interest in this Chinese poet was sparked by a discussion initiated at myLot.com about the Dragon Boat Festival.

May is Asian-American Heritage Month in America.

Even though Qu Yuan is not a notable Asian-American, it is a time to honor Asian culture along with the history and roots of this country's Asia-American citizens.  This event is celebrated around the United States.  Specifically, this 2,000-year-old Chinese festival has been celebrated for 18 years in Austin, Texas.

"Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month. But that's not May 5th. This holiday is calculated according to the lunar calendar. ... The Chinese name of this holiday is Duan Wu Jie 端午节 or 'Double Five Holiday.' ..."  Read more.
