Who is the most intelligent person in the world's history? - Quora.com

From time to time I check Quora.com for their interesting Q&As. Like this question:

Who is the most intelligent person in the world's history?

Varied responses to this question that basically range from responders indicating: (a) naming names of historical people; (b) debating the validity and validation of the "IQ score" and (c) pretty much saying it's a dumb question!

This flag was raised by Texas settlers at the Battle of Gonzales in October 1835 after Mexico attempted to retrieve a cannon which had been granted to the town of Gonzales for protection against raids by native tribes. Anglo-American immigrants, who had been invited to come and settle down in Texas, which had been a part of the Spanish empire, decided they wanted to break free from Mexican rulers and become their own country.

It was not pretty. But they did it!

Americans Love Their Firsts (Republish to Remind and Refocus US)

We Americans love our “firsts”. When Obama was elected, it was said and is still being said and will continue to be said, he is “the first African-American” to hold the highest office in the land!! Toot! Toot!!!

What do you expect from US? We're still a baby country experiencing our “first steps” in many ways. When a baby takes his or her first steps doesn't everybody applaud the monumental achievement and encourage the little one to keep on going forward?? So let US blow our horn!

George Washington was, of course, our 1st POTUS.

Abraham Lincoln was our 1st Republican POTUS.
- Sadly he was also our 1st POTUS to be assassinated.

Andrew Johnson was the 1st POTUS to be impeached, but he was not removed from office (narrowly escaped).

Ulysses S. Grant was the 1st American since George Washington to hold the rank of full general.
- He was also the 1st to publish his “Personal Memoirs”.

Theodore Roosevelt was the 1st to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 1st (and only) POTUS to serve 3 terms.

John F. Kennedy was the 1st Roman Catholic ever elected as President.

Lyndon Johnson was the 1st to nominate an African-American (Thurgood Marshall) for the Supreme Court.

Richard Nixon was the 1st of our country's leaders to be impeached who had to go home!

Ronald Reagan was the 1st POTUS to appoint a woman (Sandra Day O'Connor) to the Supreme Court.
- By God's grace, he was also the first to survive an assassination attempt by John W. Hinckley, Jr.

So there you have just a few remarkable “first moments” in the history of the United States of America.

* (Just an aside trivia note: Ronald Reagan and Bob Marley share the same birth date, February 6th. Marley died in 1981, the same year as the failed attempt on Reagan's life.)

* * More Interesting Trivia: * *
- In 1872, Victoria Woodhull was the first woman to run for President of the United States.
- 100 years late in 1972, Shirley Chisolm was the first black woman to run for President.

Ten Commandments in Christianity - Final Post

This concludes my study of the Ten Commandments in Christianity. Hope others find it helpful.

NEW Testament
  • Penalty for Violating the Commandments:
+++ Scrip Ref(s): Matthew 5: 19; Hebrews 10: 28 - 31"Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.""He that despised Moses' Law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: --of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy , who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite to the Spirit of grace? --For we know Him that hath said, VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL RECOMPENSE, says the Lord. And again, THE LORD SHALL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE. --It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."

Ten Commandments in Christianity - 10th

** 10th Commandment:

COVETOUSNESS FORBIDDEN

- Stated in the Law of Moses: EXO 20: 17 "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's."
  • Penalty for Violating: NONE. Covetous is a sin of the heart. No one knows it is being committed except the person coveting. Whenever covetous is manifested, one of the other commandments is usually broken - theft, adultery, murder, etc.

  • Examples of covetousness in the Bible: Achan (Joshua 7); Saul (1 Samuel 15:9, 19); Judas (Matthew 26:14, 15); Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11); Balaam (2 Peter 2:15 with Jude 1:11).

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh upon a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if they right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. It hath been said, WHOSOEVER SHALL PUT AWAY HIS WIFE, LET HIM GIVE HER A WRITING OF DIVORCEMENT. But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery."

Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee: leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time he deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. ~ Restated or clarified by Jesus Christ: Mark 7: 9 - 13 (and Matt 15: 4 - 6)

SABBATH DAY - WORK FORBIDDEN

But if ye had known what this meaneth, I WILL HAVE MERCY, AND NOT SACRIFICE, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of Man is Lord even of the sabbath day."

"And He said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the Sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days."

"Jesus answered and said, I have done one work and ye all marvel. Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision: (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at Me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment."

~ Restated in NEW Testament: COL 2: 16 nullifies The Sabbath was a day of rest. The first day of the week (Sunday) is a day of worship.

"Again ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, THOU SHALT NOT FORSWEAR THYSELF, BUT SHALL PERFORM UNTO THE LORD THINE OATHS. But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: nor by the earth; for it is God's footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil." Read also Matt 23: 16 - 23 The Jewish leaders, who were supposed to be the spiritual advisers to the people and interpreters of the Law, had so corrupted the interpretation and application of this commandment, Jesus angrily condemned their hypocrisy and iniquity and pronounced WOES upon them.

I Was Here! - Women's History Month

The lyrics to this song are so profound. Sure! Everybody loves Beyoncé! But this particular song which she did in response to an invitation by the United Nations who asked her to use her celebrity status to help people in need around the world will always be one of her songs that should be remembered.

Native American History: The Early Rainbow Coalition

Born and raised in Florida and the Seminoles were the first real American Indians that I had ever seen in my life. Happy to recycle this information a friend on a now-defunct social network shared with me as part of the November celebration for Native American Heritage Month

“On Christmas day 1837, 176 years ago, the Africans and Native Americans who formed Florida’s Seminole Nation defeated a vastly superior U.S. invading army bent on cracking this early rainbow coalition and returning the Africans to slavery. …”

An abandoned British fort from the war of 1812 was once occupied by a group of escaped slaves who found refuge and acceptance among the local tribes. The fort and the Spanish control of Florida offered some defense but the U.S. government sent an expeditionary military raid to terminate the outlaw colony. In the summer of 1816, the fort on the Apalachicola River was destroyed and nearly all its inhabitants.
