Heed Dr. Dobson's Advice on Parenting

Dr. James Dobson is a well-known psychologist who specializes in advice on parenting.

Focus on the Family, his non-profit ministry provide counseling and resources on marriage, parenting and other family matters; and he has also authored several books on these topics.

teen

Dr. James Dobson is a well-known psychologist and the founder of Focus on the Family, a non-profit ministry that supplies advice and resources on marriage, parenting and other family matters. He describes two types of children: the compliant child - an obedient child that heeds good advice and follows a path to peace; versus the defiant child - who is the exact opposite. He says most children are "in between" those two extremes.

English: James Dobson.English: James Dobson. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Having given birth to eleven children - all living - all raised except for one - I can state unequivocally that Dr. Dobson is correct. Most children are between the two extremes. However, if you happen to get one that is wholly defiant - my advice is ... PRAY!! Pray you survive them until they reach the age of eighteen and then ... send them on their way!

You see children must realize that one day if they live, they will be the same age as mommy and daddy. If they have children of their own, mommy and daddy will no longer have to explain why the "rules" were so flipping ludicrous!! There are many who claim to have programs that work if you happen to be raising a difficult and trying child. Some of them will even offer you their programs free of charge. Quite frankly, everybody has to wade through those muddy murky waters on their own. What may work for your family could cause chaos and mayhem in another person's home. So tread very cautiously.

I can tell you that as a young parent, reading the Dobson books was extremely helpful. Many who might not be of the Christian persuasion probably steer clear of his writings. But the advice he offers is very generic and can be applied regardless of one's religious beliefs or nationality or ethnicity.

As I stated earlier, my babies are all full grown now, with only one remaining. In five more years, she'll be stepping out on her own. Five years? That's half a blink of eye. Really it is. My oldest child has already passed the over the hill mark. Back in my day, "over the hill" used to be age 30. It seems like it was just yesterday when we were teaching him how to walk. Though the memories are sweet, of a truth, my husband and I look forward to the "empty nest years" with great anticipation.

But getting to my point: If you are a new parent, and mommy and daddy are no available for you to ask them about the "rules", pick up a book by Dr. Dobson. No doubt you can find one or more at your local library or even a church library. If not, his books are available for purchase online.

Aesop: unclear biography, unwritten fables, timeless morals

This post shares a link from fellow freelance writer Tolovaj – a magical writer who hails from Ljubljana, Slovenia.  Tolovaj doesn’t just publish written material.

"Tolovaj publishes masterpieces!
You can quote me on that.  💓

When you visit the articles, you become instantly mesmerized.  The information is fascinating reading, but the layout and presentation of the images that complement the content is absolutely exquisite! This particular link is to a mini-bio of the famous fabulist, whom we all know as Aesop, but whom we also don’t know very much about.  (???)  To put it in Tolovaj’s words:  "… his fables are much more clear than his biography."

Aesop: unclear biography, no written fables, with timeless morals

After reading the article I was moved to remark that if Aesop’s fables are an indication of his character,  he would definitely have been included in my circle of friends. :)

Residual Income Opportunity - Write for Harlow-McGaw Media

Dec 2017 Update:  The content below the asterisk marks was originally published October 13, 2014. The ladies who owned the site invited me to be a contributor. Since that time they have established several writing sites under the umbrella of Harlow-McGaw Media. There are various writing opportunities. I still have a writer's profile at Daily Two Cents and Writedge but I do not contribute as much as I used to when these sites first began. Other writing work came my way during the year and the projects keep me busy. However, most of my content was evergreen so it is still as relevant in 2017 as it was in previous years. If you are interested in signing up for any of the HM sites, read the post for additional details.

Daily Two Cents (dailytwocents.com) is an online writing community very different from the others.  It's pay-per-view, revenue-share if you have Google AdSense; includes social networking; and allows the writer or contributor to earn 100% on their referral links.   That's right!  NO REVENUE SHARING!!  You keep what you earn!  To date I have published 50 posts.  Links to a sampling of ten (10) posts are provided below.

  • Charting the Course of History - Daily Two Cents

When charting the course of history or human events, communication is critical. Miscommunication, misunderstandings, errors in translations could result in the masses believing that earth is being invaded by aliens. My Quora 2017 Activity Highlights

Received a wonderful eMail communication thanking me and congratulating me. It was a pleasant surprise. Text of the eMail message from Quora is below.

I reviewed some additional stats and realized that I have been a quora member since 2013.  Someone was nice enough to invite me to join and I can't even remember who!  This is a nice site.  People ask interesting questions, engage each other in intelligent discussion, supply great responses and information, and it has a free blogging platform.  Some insist that Quora can be used to drive traffic to their main websites and blogs.  (See links below.)  I have never used it for that purpose.  For me, it's a research tool and also makes for enlightening reading on a wide range of topics.

Thanks for being a part of Quora in 2017! Let's look at some of the ways you helped share and grow the world's knowledge this past year.

18 Marketing Trends to Watch in 2018 | Entrepreneur.com (Reblog)

I am always desperately seeking ways and means to hone my Internet, affiliate and content marketing skills. I try all the tools and resources offered (as long as they are free with an option to upgrade later). I sift through all the advice, tips and tricks from the “experts”. One thing that I have noticed and it's a story that has not changed over the years (Eh!  for about 4 or 5 years).

It's a prediction about the future of Twitter.

Extracted this quote from an article by Entrepreneur.com titled "18 Marketing Trends to Watch in 2018".
11. Twitter dies a quiet death.
Twitter has been unable to grow users in 2017. The platform has focused on user acquisition rather than on making improvements to their ad platform. As a result, marketers are already using other social media platforms to connect with prospects. This trend will continue in 2018 as Twitter continues to struggle.

I don't know about other Twitter users but this saddens me. Nevertheless, I keep trying to prepare myself for the "Moment" when I will no longer be able to save or view any more Moments.  If this prediction is true, all I can say is:
"Dear Twitter,
I am glad that I won't be a student attending university pursuing a business or marketing degree, because your organization will likely be a case study.
You will be remembered affectionately by me."

Use Your Browser to Generate Cash with Qmee Extension

Install Qmee Extension Browser and Earn Rewards
That's what they say!

Many people are installing extensions on their Chrome browser that have a “promise of earnings”. Some of the extensions that I have tried just don't suit my daily online working habits. In other words, the way the extension works interferes with how I do my work. Some of the extensions have a lot of pop-ups.

I installed Qmee Extension on my Chrome browser. Added it because it says you can earn from “searching”. I have to search to do my home biz work anyway, Why not?

Once it was installed a follow-up eMail was received describing the product further.  The communication said that you earn rewards for shopping and searching online and earn cash for each survey that you successfully complete.

This extension does not really interfere with my daily online search activity. So far I am very happy with it. My account shows a whopping 8 cents! 💲

Clearly reaping the rewards for my online searches as I have not done any shopping or taken any surveys.

The owners also claim many users earn hundreds a year just by completing surveys.

I'm passing this information on because I know there are people who like to take surveys. Quite frankly, I never have much success with surveys.  However, maybe I'll try a survey via Qmee and see if I have any success.

The real plus for using this extension:
Cash out your rewards whenever via PayPal as there is no minimum cash out amount.  It's kind of like having a piggy bank or having a cash stash for a rainy day.

What do you think?
Sound like something of interest to you? There are people making money using all kinds of apps on their mobile devices. But there are some old fogies like me who still use a laptop and some even “older fogies” that use a desktop. Why can't we earn for surfing the Internet or shopping or sharing our opinions?

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Meaning

Which film did you first see the lovely Julie Andrews?

The Sound of Music OR Mary Poppins?

Fell in love with Ms. Andrews, when she was “a problem” to the sisters at a convent in Austria; she was cast as “Maria” in “The Sound of Music” (Release Date March 2, 1965).  But she wasn’t really a problem.  In fact, she was just an ordinary young girl, who … married a rich widower, became a good stepmother to his children from a previous marriage, and fast forward … together the entire family – all being extremely talented singers organized themselves as a singing group and escaped from their country which was taken over by the evil Germans.  The movie was based on a true story.  But let’s face it!  Sometimes real life is just not all that.  Not to a 10 year old anyway.  It was the sound of the music that won me over.  “Climb every mountain … follow every rainbow, ’til you find your dream”.

By contrast, became fascinated and fixated on Ms. Andrews when she arrived on the scene, by way of umbrella, as “Mary Poppins” (Release Date August 26, 1964); an extraordinary nanny with amazing powers who could do all sorts of wonderful things. Must confess, never bothered to learn the meaning of that famous word or break it down.

Figured “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” must be describing who she really was or something she was able to do. (O.o)  It was an accomplishment for me, just to learn how to spell the word. But now I know what it means too and I like it! :)

My Shopping Channel is an Active Member of Alignable.com

Several months back I was invited to join a community aimed at promoting small businesses, connecting local businesses to each other, providing a means of referring customers and clients to each other, and other support.  It was a good sense decision to join this community.  I have been a work-at-home professional since 2007 and was invited to join by Heather McLaughlin from Performance Marketing Group.

Can you believe it?  They found me and extended me an invitation.  It wasn't hard to find me.  I have a public LinkedIn profile.  But someone looked!  ☺  I'm glad they did reach out because I have had nothing but positive dealings with all of the community - the staff and the members.

View my business profile on Alignable.com:

Most of the time I exchange business information (like passing out a business card) and post links for new products available at my various online shopping sites.  Occasionally I am asked to participate in a Q & A forum with other businesses so that we can trade ideas with each other and figure out some "best practices" routines that might work for everybody.

One of the questions I provided a response to was:

This was my response.

I'm an affiliate marketer working at home. Folks don't have to shop via my site. They can shop at the sites of other WAH marketers. It's a bazillion of us out there trying to swim to the top and get noticed so we can earn commissions from sales of products by people who came to the vendor's site via our website.
Our site visitors can always just can skip over our site and go straight to the vendor. Either way, the goal is for you to end up with a quality product for yourself or a lovely gift that the recipient won't re-gift or return. :)
Just started a new shopping blog on Tumblr: Go Shopping Bees. It shares my affiliate referral links, links from fellow affiliate marketers, and cool stuff found around the web. Consider it my shopping wish list for you. Happy Shopping!! :)

Updated My Twitter Profile (@goshoppingbees)

After listening/reading to all the doom and gloom business reports about Twitter not being likely to survive and maintain its place among the social media giants, I decided to ignore them. Just updated my Twitter profile for one of my niche Twitter accounts. It's for shoppers, shopaholics, wish listers, and such like.

Kid Size Cooking: Rainbow Checkerboard Cake (YouTube Video Share)

Another wonderful foodie discovery found by accident. I heart rainbows. I heart desserts. Have had an affiliate marketing website since 2011. When Google Plus invited me to join the G+ social / professional network, part of the membership includes being able to create a business page to link to your official website. Used to be called “page”. Now it's called “brand”. Either way, setting up a business page or establishing a brand account is kind of like passing out an electronic business card for your website, only better!

Long story short. Back in 2011, a blogger on G+ started following my Everyday Exotic Spices page. On her timeline, she had shared a recipe for a rainbow cake. However, clicking the link led me to page stating that the blog had been discontinued. Thought to myself 'Perhaps there's a new blog somewhere else and the recipe has been published there.' So typed an appropriate phrase into the search box and VOILA! Never found the original blogger's recipe but the YouTube video with kids in the kitchen is just as good!! Awesome!!

This YouTube channel has close to 4 million subscribers! Impressive huh? Might as well join the fun. Clicked the subscriber's button, gave it a Thumbs Up, and decided to share the video via this blog.

Blogjob.com - Can First Impressions Be Trusted? (Post Update #2)

Two years today I joined a blogging community called BlogJob and shared my first impression in this post:

A year later I published my revised first impression in this post:
Ah well! It's been a year and it's time to revise my revision of my first impression AGAIN!

Hey! My first impression was right and I'm sticking to it! Sure the site owners made changes. But they haven't SHUT DOWN!  They get an A+++ in my book just for hanging in there! They also get my sincerest thanks because they didn't delete my blog or ask me politely to move on. That is extremely gracious of them. Don't you think so?  Currently publishing two blogs via their platform (My Pain, Your Gain and My Shopping Channel) (post feed below); still being allowed to participate in the Google Ad Sense revenue-share plan; and also being allowed to use affiliate referral links and keep 100% of the earned commissions.  Also, ever once in a while, they let me share my opinion.
