Matcha Tea is Body Fuel: Nutrition Trends: 2015 and Beyond!

Taking a quick look at the Nutrition Trends that started in 2015.  Health, fitness, and wellness experts identified food and drink they call "body fuel".

A car needs fuel to run properly, and so does your body.  Matcha tea is body fuel.  Find out what other food and drink can power you up.

Many Americans strive daily to take extra steps to ensure their health and well-being. If Austin, Texas, “America's Fittest City”, is a representative sample of fitness habits around the USA, then nutrition trends show a shift in eating habits that will focus on partaking of food that can fuel the body.

In 2012, McCormick and Schwartz (well-known sellers of herbs and spices in the U.S. and the U.K.) released an 8-page report which stated that people would be moving towards honoring their roots, and their eating or dining habits would reflect a celebration of the origins of their own ethnic cuisine.

That was the forecast in 2012. Per Tori Jarzabkowski, who writes for Austin Fit Magazine, the nutrition trends for 2015 are in a direction just a tad bit different from eating the meals prepared by momma and grandma. This year (2015), there are five specific foods (listed below) that are “what's hot in the food and nutrition world”. Austin, Texas, USA, boasts a very health-conscious community of citizens. Gyms are everywhere. People are into running, jogging, walking, biking, eating organic or whole foods, shopping at stores that specialize in homeopathic products, visiting the local alternative medicine practitioners for health check-ups, etc.

(1) Matcha Tea

Are you of Japanese heritage? The people of Japan have been enjoying this green tea since the 12th century. It was served as part of the traditional Japanese tea ceremonies. Not sure if they knew it was a super-food. If they did, they were way ahead of us.

(2) Bone Broth

Broth made from animal bones is loaded with nutrients. Bone broth improves immunity and has a host of other health benefits. Guess what? That's old news. My parents and my husband's parents always ate all the food on their plate, usually saved the meat serving for last, and when the meat was gone, they went after the bones. Sucked those bones dry! Like it was a religion. My dad and my husband's parents are from The Bahamas. My mother's roots are part African-American, part Native American, Cherokee. (It's what I was told. Never did a DNA test. But based on my relatives' looks, it's probably true.)
(3) Fermented Foods

Kimchi ChroniclesEverybody watches or has heard of the popular food show “Kimchi Chronicles”. Right? Well, if you didn't know, you know now. Kimchi is a fermented food of Korean origin. Sauerkraut, or “sour cabbage,” is also a fermented food of German origin. Kombucha is a fermented drink, believed to have originated in China. They are good for healthy intestines and more.

SPOTLIGHTClara Myers publishes Health and Wellness articles here at Writedge.com. In two of her posts she presents a thorough discussion on why we should eat fermented foods, and whether we should ferment our own food. Ms. Myers' expertise in the area of holistic health.

(4) Coconut Sugar

It must be coconut harvesting time. The coconut is being praised for everything! Coconut water. Coconut oil. Coconut jelly. Coconut fruit. Now there's coconut sugar. There is no need to sell me on coconut. Grew up in South Florida, and we had a tree in our backyard. My brother used the climb the tree and throw down two or three coconuts. We'd whack them open and eat our fill. One year, a hurricane knocked down the tree, and my life has never been the same. Didn't realize there were so many good reasons why we were supposed to be eating coconuts.

(5) Seaweed Snacks

Last on the list for foods that fuel the body is seaweed. Seaweed is being touted as the “kale of the sea”. It's the new quinoa. It's green!! The rule is: the darker the green, the better! This particular food is not exactly the tastiest (my opinion), but after experimenting with flavors ranging from wasabi to coconut, check your grocery shelves for seaweed chips. It will be a healthy alternative snack to potato chips.

Gleaned a lot from reviewing the #AFMbestof article. Hope you liked my rehash. :)

Small Town USA - Greenville, Texas (near Dallas)

Back in 2011, Forbes magazine prepared a TOP 10 List of cities considered to be “economic superstars”. They were recognized as a “superstar” because they have relatively low housing prices, and somehow experienced an increase in new jobs, and managed to keep their economies afloat. The List included 4 Texas cities. - Austin, Texas was Number 1; - San Antonio was Number 4 on the List; - Houston, Number 5; and - Dallas, Number 7.

Austin is the state capital; and in the same way, Cedar Park, Texas benefits from being a part of the Greater Austin community, Greenville, Texas is a “small town” that likely benefits from their proximity to Dallas, one of the places named as an economic superstar. Downtown Greenville is an easy 45 minute trip from Dallas, Texas.

The 2015 estimated population projection for this city is less than 30,000. That's close enough to meeting my definition of having small-town charm.

Greenville, TX is north of Dallas in Northeast, Texas.

Map found at greenville-texas.com

Here are just a few facts to peak your interest in this colorful U.S. city.

Greenville was established in 1846. It was famous for a sign that read "Welcome to Greenville, The Blackest Land, The Whitest People"

This sign was hung over the main street in the downtown area from the 1920s to the 1960s. Between the 1960s and 1970s, the sign was changed to "The Blackest Land, The Greatest People"

There has been a dispute over the interpretation of those words.  Some believed the sign indicated a racist attitude of the people in the city.  Others insisted that "whitest" was not referring to their race but rather their purity, honesty, and integrity of the people who lived there. The color "white" is symbolic for purity, is it not?

Eventually, the sign was just taken down. The fertile black soil of the area resulted in excellent cotton production, and Greenville became known as the "cotton capital of the world".

Times have changed for the better and the new attitude is reflected in the City's vision statement:

“The vision of the City of Greenville is to build on our hometown values and rich heritage as a diverse community, by providing cost-effective, quality services to create an enjoyable vibrant place where families and business choose to live, grow and prosper.”

Thoughts and Opinions : Global Warming Versus Global Returning? Science?

THOUGHT: Suppose global warming is actually global returning?

Sharing these wacky thoughts of mine. Hoping you don’t run away from me even though I speak my mind which is often … kind of weird, strange and Krazee with a capital “K”!

OK So! It’s the year 2017 and it’s spring time here in Austin, Texas, and I never know what kind of weather to expect each day. When we moved to this city in 1998, people use to describe the weather as “climatically perfect”. The weather was terrific!
See Also:

My kids have grown accustomed to my standard excuse that I use to point the finger of blame at … everything!

If something happens, no matter what … I say:

  • “IDK!  I blame global warming. Whatever!
♦ ♦ ♦

Most of you know I believe/read the Bible a lot and as a result, my rationale and reasoning or explanations may come across to others as somewhat “peculiar”. Like this particular thought.

THOUGHT: Suppose global warming is actually global returning?

Follow my thought process (if you can).

According to the Bible, when the earth was first created, Adam and Eve used to walk around in their birthday suits. Naked! The reason they were given clothes didn’t have anything to do with a change in the weather.  Also, Noah preaching about a coming flood was disregarded by the masses because … Why?  Because it had never rained before! Water had never come down from the sky! It would take faith to believe such a thing could happen.

So IF in the beginning, man and woman were able to walk around au naturel, that must mean that the weather was terrific! All the time! Everywhere on planet earth!!

Today it like 79 degrees in Austin, Texas but the day is over.  Earlier this morning it felt a little chilly. Yesterday the heat from the sun was beating me down!

  • Maybe global warming is not disastrous.
  • Maybe it’s a good thing.
  • Maybe … ? Our weather is just going back to the way it was in the beginning.
  • Maybe … global warming is actually global returning.  (O.o)

JAOOMPT! Just another one of my peculiar thoughts.

Science and Politics of Global Warming VS Climate Change

Once upon a time, I used to watch the Discovery Channel but no more. No point crying over spilled milk. Today I made a wonderful discovery. Discovery News which is under the corporate umbrella for the Discovery Communications, LLC , has a Tumblr blog, as do I.

The Story of Qu Yuan and the Duan Wu (Dragon Boat) Festival

My interest in this Chinese poet was sparked by a discussion initiated at myLot.com about the Dragon Boat Festival.

May is Asian-American Heritage Month in America.

Even though Qu Yuan is not a notable Asian-American, it is a time to honor Asian culture along with the history and roots of this country's Asia-American citizens.  This event is celebrated around the United States.  Specifically, this 2,000-year-old Chinese festival has been celebrated for 18 years in Austin, Texas.

"Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month. But that's not May 5th. This holiday is calculated according to the lunar calendar. ... The Chinese name of this holiday is Duan Wu Jie 端午节 or 'Double Five Holiday.' ..."  Read more.
