Will The Tiger's Apprentice Ever Be an Animated Film? Paramount Says YES!

Laurence Yep has a reputation for being the premier Chinese-American writer.  It's an awesome compliment when notable filmmakers want to adapt your books to film.

NOTE:  Been tracking this since 2019.  Even though Paramount made the announcement, it's 2024 and we're still waiting.  I get that COVID happened in between but still!

Laurence Yep writes books for children and young adults.  Many know him for book series called Golden Mountain Chronicles.  Screenwriter David Magee (Finding Neverland (watch trailer)) was or is (??) adapting Yep's book - The Tiger's Apprentice (Book One) - into a feature film in 3D animation.

Hoping another one of Laurence Yep's books - City of Fire - might also be adapted. There's an evil dragon and lost treasures of an emperor weaved into the storyline. How can anybody resist turning it into a major feature film?

* * Will The Tiger's Apprentice Ever Be an Animated Film? - Learned about this film adaptation several years back.  This animation project is either "on hold" or has been abandoned.  Can't seem to find any updates about the effort.  Perhaps they're furiously working to complete it, but keeping it all very hush hush because they want to surprise viewers with the finished product!  Hope Magee and company see it through. Sounds fantastic!  :)

UPDATE:
FINALLY!!!

Film adaptation:
In October 2008, Cartoon Network announced the live-action animated film adaptation of the book with a script by David Magee[3] with Rainmaker Entertainment contracted for the animation.[4] The project was cancelled after Cartoon Network stopped developing live-action projects. In March 2019, Paramount Pictures announced an animated film adaptation of the book with a script by Magee and a release date of February 11, 2022.[5]

Disney Princesses Meet the 21st Century Teen

Tried to do a quick list of the names of Disney Princesses WITHOUT searching for them on the Internet . Thought I could do it but I failed. Was able to draw at least ten from memory , listed below. After that I started going … UM … the one with red curly hair ??? ... and … Uuuummm … the two sisters in the “Frozen” animated flick … uuuhh … ???

  1. Snow White
  2. Cinderella
  3. Sleeping Beauty
  4. Mulan
  5. Ariel
  6. Anastasia
  7. Rapunzel
  8. Tiana
  9. Pochahantas
  10. Jasmine

Times have sure changed from when I was a little girl. Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty - they were the ones that were role models. Each one of them ended up with the handsome prince, who took them to a beautiful castle home, and lived happily after.

My youngest daughter is a budding teen, having just turned age 14 last week. Asked her the other day if she had a favorite Disney princess.

Without skipping a beat, she passionately blurts out: Anastasia, cause she don't need nobody to do nothing for her; and Tiana too, cause she worked!”

Oooookkkkayyy. Let me back away slowly from my little 21st century girl. :)

Entertainment History: Gene Kelly was a Heart Throb

Have always loved Gene Kelly (1912 - 1996). The dancer with muscles like Popeye the Sailor.  According to the Urban Dictionary (which I'm now finding myself referring to as often as Merriam Webster), this is the Top Definition of a "heartthrob":

A person of superior physical quality who inspires amorous emotions of the opposite sex.
Yep! That would be Gene Kelly! Loved this guy!!

Gene Kelly

Enviously watching him dance effortlessly with all his leading ladies and Jerry Mouse, and adoring him dancing all by himself in the rain.

He created such wonderful childhood memories for me.

Have to save this tweet, share this video, and also sharing a link to a site for loyal fans, aptly named Gene Kelly Fans.

Avengers Endgame (Plus a Throwback: Justice League: The Complete Series)

There is a lot of talk in the entertainment media about Avengers Endgame.  The ticket sales for this movie in the movie industry are like Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album purchases for the music industry.  OFF THE CHARTS!!!  People just couldn't get in and out of the theaters fast enough.  Some people even participated in a marathon and watched all the movies that were released which led up to "Avengers Endgame".  59 hours worth of movie watching!  Can you stand it??

Why do we love superheroes?

For some of us, the childhood memories of superheroes run deep. They don’t just represent beings with superhuman powers. They are symbolic of much larger matters like “truth, justice, and the American Way”. That’s how they are remembered and now they have evolved or expanded, and have a global and even universal united role to play in saving ALL mankind (you have to give the mean and nasty humans an opportunity to repent)  and … uuhhh … nice aliens worth saving!  :)

For the superhero fanatic in all of us!
