Quotes About Texas ~ Kinky and Others

Rummaging through some of my old content and material and found this two quotes. I heart "ALL THINGS TEXAS" (except the politicians). Published this post and tacked on an image just so I could pin them. :)

"I want to be a Texan 24 hours a day." -James Dean  (James Byron Dean (1931 - 1955), American film actor and cultural icon, who died at age 24 in a tragic car accident.  Best embodied by the title of his most celebrated film, "Rebel Without a Cause" (1955). NOTE:  I've heard a lot about that movie.  But I don''t remember watching it.  I remember Mr. Dean from the movie "Giant" with Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor.)

Mr. Dean is pictured on the LIFE magazine cover sandwiched between Marilyn Monroe and Bruce Lee.

The Color Blue (The Science, the Psychology, the Humor)

So red is my favorite color. But when you're nobody … nobody cares what colors you like (except close family and friends ). Blue is Jay-Z's favorite color which is important because … he's Jay-Z or Jay Z!! (Used to have a dash, now his name doesn't have a dash.) Here's a question that never occurred to me and bet Jay Z never thought about it either.

When Did The Color Blue Actually Start To Exist?

Remember the dress that broke the internet? Well, once that went viral, people started talking about colors and the science behind how we perceive the color blue. Kevin Loria went beyond that by trying to figure out the history of our perception of the color blue.

Look up! The sky is blue. Gonna take a wild guess. The color blue is probably the same age as the sky. Click the link for the answer. According to the writer of the article found at cloudhax.com, ancient civilizations did not have a word for the color “blue” in their languages. Interestingly enough, this is the order in which words for colors appeared in human languages : first there was black and white, then red, then yellow and green, and last of all, blue.

That's fascinating.

Not quite convinced the research produced the true findings.

But since it's not a matter I'd care to probe any further … in the words of the wise guy philosopher … Aw! Forget about it!

The Color Blue: What Does It Mean And Symbolize?

Blue ribbon is in 20th century still a synonym of high quality and is typically given to winners of different competitions, for instance in sport, but also in culinary or at certain fairs. Did you know the most prestigious colleges like Oxford and Cambridge are sometimes called blue brick universities?

My Theory is Rocky & Bullwinkle Were Coded Transcripts (Humor)

Everyone always talks about how the Bible is loaded with codes and clues about the events of nations and mankind as a whole.  I say the Bible is a plain book written in plain language.  Enough said on that!

I have an entirely different "belief" when it comes to the old Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoons.
I think they're LOADED with coded messages.  However, most of the info that was being communicated pertained to events that already happened. So if you know you know history just go back and re-watch them and you'll get what I'm talking about.

My Worry-Free Philosophy (Humor and Serious Truth)

“Revenge it's a kiss, this time I won't miss, now I've got you in my sight.”

( Lyrics from GoldenEye - http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/tinaturner/goldeneye.html )

I love me some Tina Turner. Her being picked to sing a James Bond theme song? So worthy to be chosen to become a member of the same club as Dame Shirley Bassey. She performed this song well, but alas … Revenge is not a part of my worry-free philosophy.

The advice in the image above (found at glitter-graphics.com) says: “Never go to bed angry. Stay up and plot your revenge.”

Eh! That's great for a joke! But not a route one should take in real life.

Never go to bed angry. Anger is an emotion that you can fully control. CONTROL IT!! Anger, more often than not, makes you do things you regret for a long long long time.

Say what? Jesus got angry with the money changers in the temple? Yeah well, you're still trying to get to heaven. Don't screw up your chances! Jesus is already there! He can lock the gates!! ☺

Also, don't give me that crap about anger management or you'll make me angry!!

Stay up and ... Stay up? WHAT???!!! I get precious little sleep as it is!! You want me to choose between beauty rest versus wrinkles, extra gray hair, and bloodshot eyes? What are my other options?

Plot my revenge? Plotting is needed when writing a book or a script for a movie. If I have that kind of time to spare and can spend it on plotting, might as well write a book. Why not? I'm wide awake anyway!! You never know. Could be another Harry Potter series.

So the bottom line is:
Revenge is _______________. In my life, it's a blank and I'm never going to fill it in.

Disney Princesses Meet the 21st Century Teen

Tried to do a quick list of the names of Disney Princesses WITHOUT searching for them on the Internet . Thought I could do it but I failed. Was able to draw at least ten from memory , listed below. After that I started going … UM … the one with red curly hair ??? ... and … Uuuummm … the two sisters in the “Frozen” animated flick … uuuhh … ???

  1. Snow White
  2. Cinderella
  3. Sleeping Beauty
  4. Mulan
  5. Ariel
  6. Anastasia
  7. Rapunzel
  8. Tiana
  9. Pochahantas
  10. Jasmine

Times have sure changed from when I was a little girl. Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty - they were the ones that were role models. Each one of them ended up with the handsome prince, who took them to a beautiful castle home, and lived happily after.

My youngest daughter is a budding teen, having just turned age 14 last week. Asked her the other day if she had a favorite Disney princess.

Without skipping a beat, she passionately blurts out: Anastasia, cause she don't need nobody to do nothing for her; and Tiana too, cause she worked!”

Oooookkkkayyy. Let me back away slowly from my little 21st century girl. :)

It's July! Reasons to be a Francophile This Month

It's July!  Received a fun reminder in my eMail Inbox about the joys of being a francophile. Even though you may be a different nationality, this site called Foursquare, suggested reasons why you can pretend to be French during the month of July. One main reason?  Zee food!  Take part in Bastille Day celebrations and treat yourself by dining out at a restaurant that serves French food.

NOTE:  Check to verify what the COVID-19 restrictions and requirements.

Hmmm? Don't know about where you all live, but I don't know of a restaurant in the USA that serves French cuisine that I can afford!

So! As an affordable alternative, I'm going to be a pseudo-francophile by indulging in a platter of french fries and/or enjoying french toast for breakfast. It's true that the French did not invent french fries nor they invent french toast.  But they both use the word “french”. That's good enough for me!  :)  Happy Bastille Day!!

Why Should We Be Thankful For Social Media? (Especially Twitter)

Is there is one thing we can all thank social media for? Yes! QUOTES!

No matter how you’re feeling, ...
No matter who you’re trying to impress, inspire and motivate, ...
No matter if you just need that perfect statement to begin or end your speech or your sermon …

Just scan social media posts.  Especially Twitter!

There’s got to be a quote for it!

  • Tech developers say there's an app for that.
  • Senator Elizabeth Warren says there's a plan for that.
  • With social media, whatever "that" is, there's a quote for that.

In many instances, you will find just the quote you were looking for and in some instances, you’ll find a nice image that goes with it. It might be a photo or drawing of the person who is being quoted. It might just be a pretty picture or a thought-provoking image that is perfectly suited to the quote.

Whether you find the words or the words with an appropriate picture, you are bound to find the quotes that will keep you going! Words that make you happy, make you thankful, make you stronger, make you think. Words that help you prioritize, give you perspective, focus you, and push you forward.

To that last tweet, I quote myself: “NOT! Uhh … you posted this on social media.” (O.o)

Quotes and humor keep me going. ☺
Hope these quotes keep you going too!

My Introduction to Cuban Art

One of my first jobs after graduating from the University of Miami was a teller at a savings and loan institution. Had a degree but couldn't find a job right away and accepted this job because some income is better than no income. Each teller had a number. You used your stamp - on checks, deposit and withdrawal slips, etc. - to leave a trail for the auditors that you had handled that customer's transaction. Teller 63. That was me!

One of my co-workers, another teller, was a young guy working his way through college. He had come to America from Cuba with the first set of refugees that President John Kennedy had allowed into Miami , Florida.

Can't remember the name, but he was showing me artwork by a Cuban artist who was very famous and known for his paintings of everyday life in Cuba. Everyday life, that is, before Fidel Castro took over.  So the painting was a wonderful lively scene - beautiful blue water and clear blue sky, trees, beautiful flowers, all kinds of colorful people - men , women and children, engaging in either work or play.

"Look!", he says and points at a beautiful woman walking down the sidewalk and men turning to stare as she strolls with her nose up in the air.

"You see her backside?", he asked.

I reply, "Yes! Yes I do!"

(You could hardly miss her lovely "lady lump". :) He continues to explain the art: "This painting is so typical Cuban. Cuban men love the big butt! Americans do not like this! But in our culture, it is considered beautiful!! Americans think skinny is beautiful. But Cuban men do not like skinny women!"

The conversation between Jorge and me was very memorable, educational and also humorous. His final remarks really made me laugh, as he's looking right at me, and speaking very plainly and seemed to take no thought that he was talking to me - a Black American woman - about big butts!!!

That was my first lesson about Cuban artists and Cuban art.

(Truly apologize.  My memory fails me. Forgot the name of the particular artist.)

Become Bruce Lee or the 10th Doctor Who for Halloween

Thought people might have trouble deciding on a Halloween costume to wear. Especially guys. Tried to make it an easy choice.

Can you get any easier if you say:

  • Choose between Bruce Lee or

  • Doctor Who (The Tenth One, my favorite).

I could not believe the initial reactions and feedback.

Aren't the lines clearly drawn?

It would be easy for me to pick. I'd be both!!
That's right! I'd figure out a way to wear both costumes!

Global Warming or Global Returning?

Happy last day of February!!  Yes.  It is still Monday.

The winter months here in Austin, Texas, have not been winter-like at all.  Started the new year this way.  Some days it was like 70+ degrees in January!

My kids have grown accustomed to my standard excuse that I use to point the finger of blame at … everything!

If something happens, no matter what … I say:
  • “IDK! I blame global warming. Whatever!

So here is my Krazee with a capital "K" thought for today. (FYI.  This content was previously shared at PersonaPaper, Jan 25, 2016).

Have to write it down now because it might be forgotten by tomorrow. Have these momentary bursts on inspiration and … sometimes they don't stick. Brain neurons don't spark like they used to and I forget!

Most of you know I believe/read the Bible a lot and as a result, my rationale and reasoning or explanations may come across to others as somewhat “peculiar”. Like this particular thought.

THOUGHT: Suppose global warming is actually global returning?

Ah hah! Think about it.

When the earth was first created, Adam and Eve used to walk around in their birthday suits. Naked! The reason they were given clothes didn't have anything to do with a change in the weather. Also, Noah preaching about a coming flood was disregarded by the masses because it had never rained before! Water had never come down from the sky! It would take faith to believe such a thing could happen.

So if, in the beginning, man and woman were able to walk around au naturel , that must mean that the weather was terrific! All the time! Everywhere on planet earth !!

So today it like 72 degrees in Austin, Texas and it really should be a little chilly. After all, it's January!

  • Maybe global warming is not disastrous.
  • Maybe it's a good thing.
  • Maybe … ? Our weather is just going back to the way it was in the beginning.
  • Maybe … global warming is actually global returning. (O.o)
JAOOMPT! Just another one of my peculiar thoughts.

God Bless America | Looking Ahead to 2016 (historical marker)

Does the government create jobs or does the private create sector create jobs? Uuhh … BOTH!

I thought this was a dumb question. It was being tossed around when Romney was running for President against Obama. Yes Romney lost and Obama was reelected. But in two more years someone will be replacing Obama. Questions about jobs and job creation will be on the table, as long as the economy sucks; so I’m tossing in my two cents for posterity.

  • FACT IS: The Mafia creates jobs! As do terrorist organizations and a whole bunch of other entities.
  • FACT IS: Self-sufficient self-motivated individuals figure out ways to work and create jobs for themselves; because they ain’t got time for all this brew ha-ha. They got bills to pay!
  • FACT IS: It’s a bunch of people who are unemployed and most of them want to work AN HONEST JOB!! Whether it’s for the government or at a private business? THEY DON’T CARE!!!

-A little background: Romney (or his peeps) were arguing that his work experience at Bain Capital proved that he could create jobs, get people working, and boost the economy. (As I recall. The memory fades fast.) The political opponents said: He didn’t create jobs; he put folks out of work, and sent the jobs and the money out of the country!!

So was working for Bain capital a disqualifier for being POTUS?

My answer? NO!
It’s a work experience where valuable KSAs (knowledge, skills and abilities) were acquired that can be adapted to suit the tasks at hand! Mr. Romney’s stand regarding his work experience providing him with the necessary competency was valid and made sense.

So the question really was or should have been:
- Could he adapt those KSAs and utilize them to be the leader of this country and a leader on the world stage? Yes or NO?

This is America. If a POTUS screws up, we kick them out. FACT IS: Sometimes they mess up stuff, don’t get kicked out, and leave US with the mess! Somehow we survive and carry on.

* I am an American with freedom of speech. These comments are being left behind as a MARKER.

I don’t know who will be our new fearless leader in 2016. But she better be better than the guys who went in before her. :)
