America's First Christmas (and Christmas Floral Paintings)
Some historians believe the first Christmas in the United States was celebrated in 1539 by Hernando de Soto, a dozen Catholic priests, and around 600 Spanish explorers. The settlers held a Christmas Mass in Anhaica, an Indigenous village now known as Tallahassee, Florida.
The first clearly recorded Christmas in the South was in 1607 at Jamestown, Virginia. This is if you exclude a celebration in 1604 by French settlers when they tried to establish a colony on St. Croix Island off the coast of Maine.
Some call 1776 the first "American" Christmas because the Declaration of Independence was created the previous summer.
Alabama was the first state to officially recognize Christmas as a legal holiday in 1836. Oklahoma was the last state to recognize Christmas as a legal holiday in 1907.
By 1860, 14 states, including several in New England, had adopted Christmas as a legal holiday. In the United States, Christmas was established as a federal holiday on June 26, 1870.

Can Gandhi find a place in today's Corporate and Management world? It has been long lasting debate going on with some of my friends in understanding the relevancy of Gandhism in the modern corporate world that talks of stocks, prices, sell-outs and buy-ins everyday. To worsen the state of their minds, a question of...

An Opinion Piece : I am in favor of capital punishment. ...
Capital punishment or the death penalty is still a heated topic being debated on a fairly regular basis.
The CONs steadfastly remain CON or AGAINST; while the PROs continue to remain PRO or FOR and posit that the CONs (those who oppose capital punishment) are really only supporting the convicts and they should shower their compassion, sympathy and possibly empathy on the families of victims, and most importantly, keep in the front of their minds that the victim did not deserve having their life taken.Yes it is true that putting the murderer to death won't bring back the murdered victim. But the Administrators of Justice are not trying to resurrect the dead. That's not their job. Their duties and responsibilities – for which they are paid, some of them quite handsomely " entail maintaining the peace in the community of law-abiding citizens, and upholding the dignity and humanity of the people who are still alive, and should not have to live in fear and dread amongst each other.
I am in favor of capital punishment. Your opposing points of view and comments are welcomed. But don't even think you will change my mind!
The only thing you will get me agree to is that the “form” of execution should NOT be crucifixion. Why? Because according to the Biblical Archaeology Review, which is a well-known and respected publication that supplies facts, data, historical information and results of archaeological findings, about life during Bible times, mainly in the Near and Middle East areas " nobody is certain as to how a crucifixion was accomplished. Based on that, how I see it, the last thing this world needs is executioners who can't do their jobs and botch executions!!

The Stuff Dreams Are Made of ...
Do you have a dream that you dream often?
♥♦♥♦♥♦♥When I was a child, I always ended up in a car with other family members, dangling off the edge of something like a highway where the construction wasn’t finished and we didn’t see the sign saying “Under Construction” until it was too late. Nobody would dare move because if we did, we’d plummet to our deaths. But I don’t have that dream anymore.
These days my dreams are all kinds of random stuff as if my mind is unloading garbage. I got no complaints though. I’m happy to get rid of the trash and unnecessary crap, and purify my mind! :)
My late mother used to have a dream interpretation book. I wish I would have saved it. It was full of malarkey but she believed it. I could prove to her that it wasn’t nothing but junk, but she wouldn’t believe me! Then I learned about Sigmund Freud and his weird ideas about dreams. I don’t believe none of that either! My husband is the only person who ever gave me a direct plain reasonable explanation of dreams. ‘Eh!, he said, 'It’s just your subconscious mind clearing out stuff you didn’t sort out during the day.’
Still … it’s interesting to note that there are common dreams that many people many people have - no matter what their background, ethnicity, beliefs, culture, etc. Click here to find out what the 10 Most Common Dreams are. Would you believe that my husband’s recurring dream is not included in the list of 10. In his dreams, he can fly!

Like to read autobiographies or biographies to glean inspiration?
But clearly you do not have to be depressed to draw motivation from reading about the achievements of someone else. For one of my friends it was the life of Malcolm X. The first biography which influenced my life was about Sammy Davis Jr. It was titled Yes I Can. (I could just kick myself for not keeping the book as it is now considered a collectible. He also published a sequel called Why Me?) The first autobiography written by Mr. Davis is also the book that peaked my curiosity and got me interested in reading more and more biographies about anybody – celebrities, men and women in history, people in political circles, etc. Turned this fascination into a hobby and created a Pinterest board called BIO-Snapshots, a collection of trivia, information and articles about people. Some of my most recent pins link to mini-bios of: Nora Baker, Robert Smalls, and Huma Abedin.
Do you get inspired by reading
biographical accounts or personal memoirs?

Book Suggestions : Classic Literature: Francois-Marie Arouet (1694 - 1778) aka Voltaire
Candide (or Optimism) was written in 1758. At that time, Voltaire was 64 years old. Most consider this his most important work — representative of The Enlightenment (1650-1800). The personal suffering he had endured in his own lifetime, and his study of history convinced him that there is no such thing as Divine Providence directing all human affairs.
