Round Up: Ten Popular Posts About Celebrities

Thank you to my blog visitors.  I have been getting more traffic to this blog and readers have been leaving comments to let me know they dropped by.  As you can see, this blog's Archived Posts date back to 2014.

It's been a while since I've done a round-up of popular posts.  My Blog Stop! publishes content about a wide range of topics; from art to zen.  Rather than choose posts based on a time period (30 days, a year, etc.), the round-up below are popular posts about a specific topic.

Below are 10 posts about "celebrities".  Many are about famous people that are now referred to or described as "vintage", "iconic", "legendary", "Hollywood legends", etc.

(P.S.  I also included some posts from my other blog, Joie de Vivre Magazine.)

My Top 10 List of Iconic Female Celebrities

In America, we love to apply the word "icon" to people who sort of serve as symbols or are symbolic of something much larger than themselves, and are representative of an ideal that we, as individuals, hope to achieve in life. It's almost as if these people are idols. Almost.

(2)

Entertainment: Celebrities: In Memory of: Doris Day (1922 - 2019)

Must say good-bye to "America's girl next door" and Hollywood legend, Doris Day . She had a major influence on my childhood development. She charmed me. That was her appeal. I think she charmed everyone; publicly and privately. I loved all of her movies. No really.

(3)

Hollywood Legends : Iconic Female Celebrities: Marilyn Monroe (1926 - 1962)

Today, Marilyn Monroe would be 90 years old, but the diva passed away in 1962. Many people know her celebrity persona, and she still is viewed as an icon of beauty and femininity. But let's take a look at her off-screen personality. Here are seven (7) biographical facts.

(4)

IN MEMORY OF: Humphrey Bogart (1899 - 1957)

Died: January 14, 1957 Won't be much longer now and all the glamorous Hollywood movie stars that I grew up watching will be forgotten. Stars like Humphrey Bogart, who was actually already dead by 1957, a couple of years after my birth.

(5)

Celebrities : In Memory Of : Christopher Lee (1922-2015)

"What Christopher Lee movie is this?" Care to share your love for the late great Christopher Lee?

(6)

Celebrities : In Memory Of : Omar Sharif (1932 - 2015)

In 2015, we said farewell to one of my favorite actors, an unforgettable screen legend, Omar Sharif . He may be gone but he is not forgotten. At least not by me.

(7)

Asian-American Legend ~ Bruce Lee (Nov 27, 1940 - July 20, 1973)

God bless the Internet and especially social networks, bloggers, and online writing communities. So there's this really cool guy - Nathan Bernardo, aka NateB11 - and he is a loyal and devoted martial arts disciple. He knows a lot about MA and writes articles on the topic.

Celebrity Birthdays : Happy Birthday Ms. Nichols!

For those who were dedicated fans of the original Star Trek sci-fi TV series which aired 1966 through 1969, no doubt you remember Nichelle Nichols who played Lieutenant Uhura. Born Grace Nichols on December 28, 1932, in Robbins, Illinois. Today is her birthday Happy Birthday Ms. Nichols! *

(9)

Bob Marley - Rastaman Trivia 2

February 6th was the singer's birthday. But there was this interesting article at Bubblews about his memorial services with some trivia to be shared. You never know when you may need to know it! Rather than wait for May 11th, the anniversary of Mr. Marley's death, my reasoning was that since it was still February, it could be considered a sort belated birthday remembrance.

(10)

Michael Jackson (August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009)

Michael Jackson was so much more than an eclectic and consummate entertainer. He was an extremely generous humanitarian and would no doubt like for people to remember his love and genuine care and concern for children.

Hope you enjoyed the round-up. Visit often!

My Top 10 List of Iconic Female Celebrities

In America, we love to apply the word “icon” to people who sort of serve as symbols or are symbolic of something much larger than themselves, and are representative of an ideal that we, as individuals, hope to achieve in life. It's almost as if these people are idols. Almost.

A better way to explain our usage of this term would be by sharing my first time hearing it applied to a well-known figure. My first time hearing the word used was a report where people were speaking of Lee Iacocca. What did this man do to have people call him an “icon”? He's an American businessman, in the automobile industry, who (based on my recollection of events) brought the Chrysler Corporation back to life. Evidently, because of his prowess as a business warrior, he stepped up, took the helm as CEO of ailing and failing business entity, revived it and steered to success. For accomplishing this impossible feat, people showered praises on him as if he were a god of the American automotive industry.

As time passed, the word “icon” started popping up everywhere and is especially used for entertainers, such as, Madonna. Why is she an icon? “Madonna could be considered one of the most successful women of all time.” (Quote source: Madonna: Icon (and Single Working Mother with Custody Issues) | The Huffington Post)

Another example? Beyoncé was selected as the 2016 CFDA Fashion Icon. (CFDA = Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc.)

Once read an article published at Listverse.com about Hollywood suicides. The full title of the article is “10 Iconic Actresses Who Tragically Ended Their Lives”. After reviewing the list of female celebrities, the facts presented about their deaths were indeed tragic, but describing the actresses as “iconic” kind of made me bristle. It didn't seem to jive with other people in the entertainment industry who were being described as “iconic”.

So! Decided to compile my own list of actresses who should be considered “iconic”. Nixed the requirement that that they had to have committed suicide.

Hmmm …? Now where would be the best place to start to find those sort of people very quickly? The iconic Life Magazine. Of course!

Here's my list of ten (10) female iconic celebrities (not all are actresses, but they are famous or recognizable). The parenthetical notes are my rationale or reasons why these women measure up to the criteria that sets them apart as icons.

Fashion and Style: The Little Black Dress is a Wardrobe Essential

Everybody knows – or at least every woman knows – that her wardrobe is incomplete without the little black dress. Everybody knows – male or female – that people look to the current First Lady in the United States White House as a fashion icon, symbol, or somebody everybody else wants to dress like. Whenever she steps onto the scene, the women all want to see what she is wearing. Click! Click! Click! The sound of all the cameras flashing. It was that way with Michelle Obama and it was the same way with the late Jackie Kennedy. Being honest, those are the only two first ladies that had a fashion sense or a fashion flair (according to me). The other nice ladies, although very supportive of their spouses, were just not as noticeable. Feel free to disagree. But do not expect to change my opinion. The two first ladies who get A++ for being super stylish? Jackie Kennedy and Michelle Obama. Moving on to the next topic.

The next topic is eShakti. Ever heard of them? A clothing line; apparel for women. Best little black dresses ever!!! Shades of Mrs. O and Mrs. K. Also very affordable. They have dresses in other colors too and you will instantly fall in love with all of them! Skirts and blouses as well. Classy. Elegant. Cotton. Retro. Easy care. Liz Taylor glamorous. Most importantly, they flatter your figure. They customize apparel to your height, size, and style and deliver in 14 business days. Try one of them on and there is no doubt in my mind that when you look in the mirror, you will be thinking: “Oh yeah! Looking good!”

See here is the thing. The style is like vintage 40s and 50s. Or maybe 20s and 30s. I do not go back that far. But if you go back far enough, and can remember “when the lion roared” just before a great movie came on – you knew that you would probably see some glamorous women wearing gorgeous clothing made by a top fashion designer, and you would sigh with envy because you know you could not afford whatever they were wearing. Unless you had a mother who was a dressmaker. My mom would watch movies with me and go: “Oh I can make that dress easy. Cost me just $5.” Seriously. She would and she could!

Maybe you did or do not have a mother who was/is a skilled seamstress. These days it is very convenient to shop online for all of your fashion needs. So check out the affordable custom clothing available at eShakti. The retro-style conjured all kinds of wonderful memories and made me think that if I were the First Lady, it would be one of my favorite places to shop.

Anyway, enough with my jibber jabber. Take a look at the selection below. If you are not looking for a black dress, no problems, as these styles come in several different colors. Of course, once you decide on the dress, you know what comes next. Shoes and accessories!

The basic black dress comes in many styles.

Change Your Blog Name and Tagline

In a previous post a response was provided to the question:

How Often Do You Update Your Blog Content?

In that post, I also explained that after joining a blogging community, BlogJob.com and being allowed to create a blog there, there was the task of giving the blog a name and a tagline. The blog is not yet a year old and it has become necessary to make an executive decision.

Decided that the blog name and tagline needed to be changed. It wasn't difficult to do since the blog URL remains the same no matter how many times the name changes.

Also needed to add an icon. Icon or favicons are an integral part of a website or blog's online identity.

Took care of the easiest task first. Went into the theme customizer and added an icon. Finally decided on the flag of Texas in the shape of the state of Texas as my icon. Since my plans are for Austin, Texas to be our final stop. Our family has relocated more than once. But I'm tired of moving.

Next task. Changed the name and tagline for my site to something more “generic”.

OLD blog name: Cmoneyspinner Keeps on Blogging
NEW blog name: My Pain, Your Gain

OLD blog tagline: Let the blogging adventures continue.
NEW blog tagline: Advice for newbies and others who want to work at home. Learn from my mistakes.

Cha-cha-cha-changes. :)

Hope you visit at your earliest convenience.  :)
