How to Make Money from Virily and 6 More Revenue Sharing Sites (Reblog)

Janice Wald is an award-winning blogger and her areas of expertise are blogging and social media. I follow her blog and I follow her on social media. She is very active on social media and all around the web, and when I see her name, I have to peek! She's simply irresistible. ☺

Her blog, mostlyblogging.com, is loaded with guidance, advice, tips, and tricks, etc.  Everything you need for successful blogging. While perusing the Quora Q&A website, I came across her response to a question - "Do You Blog Outside Quora?" - and that led me to the blog post below. (Treasure hunting is always good when you actually find treasure!)

I was very interested in reading her review of Virily.com, as I joined this blogging community in June 2017.  It's 2018.  I'm still there.  But I was just wondering if she knew something about the site that I didn't know!  So many sites like Virily have come and gone in the blink of an eye!

Happy to say that her blog post was very encouraging.  Sharing the link to her post and for what it's worth, my additional "two cents" (below the post link).  I think this site is a wonderful social blogging community and I would recommend it to anyone, but especially to newbie bloggers.  If you're thinking of becoming a blogger and you need to start somewhere to gain experience, start with VirilySign up is FREE!

My “Two Cents” About Virily (and the other writing sites):

I am currently a very satisfied blogger in the Virily community. Member since June 2017. I was very hesitant to join. Got talked into joining so many communities just like Virily, only to be disappointed. But Virily has been a pleasant surprise.

But now I'm like: “Uummm? Should I stay or should I go?” (O.o) LOL. I've been psychologically conditioned by the other sites to expect the site to disappear! But you know what? Right now. It's kind of fun! And it is proving to be profitable.

I think sites built using the revenue-sharing business model, i.e. that primarily rely on ad revenues to stay afloat, can survive. Two things are needed. Honest staff and loyal members. Both are absolutely necessary. Sad to say but my experience with other sites has been that the staff or management was not straight up! The members certainly didn't want the site to shut down!  That was evident!

By contrast, I have found the Virily site owners, staff and management, to be very involved with the daily administration of the site; they respond to their messages promptly; they keep members apprised of significant changes, and they're based in Estonia. ☺  I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but if the folks from Estonia are as nice as these people, that country is now on my Travel and Vaction bucket list. ☺

Regards the other sites mentioned, in addition to Virly?

  • Hubpages was recently acquired and is under new management. My HUBs are articles that are evergreen content and though the earning is slow, I do get paid
  • Tried InfoBarrel and Snipsly. Had no success. Do not make your decision based on my experience.
  • Started with Daily Two Cents when they started and have experienced the changes with this platform. I would recommend joining, although some of my friends did not like it. To each his own.  My experience has been good.
  • Seekyt was great but when the site changed owners, I deleted my content and left. Wish them success though.  The site looks lovely.

Virily's publishing module is not just for blogging.  You can create quizzes, polls, lists; shared embedded content and videos, as well as write.  It is a very lively social community.  It's like Facebook, only you can earn extra income for most of your social activity.  Just check their FAQ for details.  Below are links to some of my posts, supplied as examples to give you an idea of content that is considered acceptable.

Stop the insanity! Keep Google+ Community posts off your profile. - The Social Media Hat (Reblog)

Don't Spam Yourself on Google Plus

Many newbies who have created a Google Plus profile or page are anxious to share their links in Google Plus communities. This is a good thing, mainly because the G+ community membership usually far outnumbers the followers you have in your social circles.

  • Google Plus limits the number of followers to 5000 for personal profiles. (See Side Note below.)

  • Whereas, I've seen some G+ communities with over 50,000 members. Thus, there is more opportunity for exposure and hopefully getting traffic to your website or blog, if you share links via the communities.

* Important Social Media Tip!*
When you share the same post in several G+ communities, you need to turn off the feature that allows your post to also show up in your public post stream. Otherwise, when people visit your G+ profile or page, they will see multiple entries of the same thing over and over and over. You actually give the impression that you're spamming yourself.  It's a common mistake for newbies to make.

I get my social media tips from Mike Allton, publisher of The Social Media Hat blog.

He says: Don't spam yourself!!

Then he explains how to stop the insanity.

● ● ●
Side Note: Mike Allton's G+ professional profile boasts over 186,000 followers. The business page or brand account associated with his website/blog, The Social Media Hat, has over 8,000 followers.

Google offers professional or business profiles (may or may not be for a price) and those profiles show that you can have more than 5K followers. I don't have the details. If you want to know more, search for “Google My Business”.

By the way: Have any of you ever seen spam in that many different varieties? I would love to try the Hot &Spicy.

Top Ten Popular Posts at My BlogJob Site - One Year Anniversary!

Thanks to the nifty tool called "Facebook memories", found this reminder about BlogJob, a blogging community that I joined in 2015.  FB memory links to the original blog post.

Updates to this post:
  • The quote and link to the review that was supplied in that post (dated 2014) is outdated.  In May 2016, the site owners stopped their Points Program which was the primary monetary incentive for signing up.  The owners have continued to make the platform available free for the users.  Some chose to keep their blogs published at the site.  Some left.  I stayed.
  •  Also, my BlogJob blog name and tagline changed to:
Blog Title: My Pain, Your Gain
Tagline:  Advice for newbies and others who want to work at home. Learn from my mistakes.

Why?
  1. BlogJob has a very good Alexa ranking;
  2. Too much work is required to republish my content;
  3. There is a revenue-share plan (if you have a Google Ad Sense account: 75/25 - owner's favor); and
  4. You can use affiliate referral links (no sharing; you keep 100% of commissions earned).

In fact, because affiliate products are allowed, in November 2016, after encouragement from a fellow blogger, I started a new blog called My Shopping Channel.

However, as to whether new members are being accepted?  That decision is in the hands of the site owners.  I do not direct aspiring bloggers to the site.  But I also don't discourage people from visiting and finding out on their own.  What I can say is that not many bloggers have been signing up, since the Points Program was discontinued.

In my previous post, a year ago, I provided links to my most popular posts at the time.  Below are links to personally selected posts that you may find informative, entertaining or both.  Hope you visit and please leave comments to let me know you were there.  Thanks so much!

The Book is For All People

The Book is For All People

Believers and non-believers have argued and debated about the facts presented in the Book aka the Bible, for thousands of years. Is it true or is it false? No consensus has ever been reached. But both groups agree that the scriptures are fascinating reading.

There are various templates available for bloggers which can be customized to reflect your "personality". Some templates offer a slide presentation at the top of the blog. Those are great! Never used one. Have tried. But have trouble figuring out which blog posts to showcase.

Nimrod and the 'Gate of God'

If you come from a Judaeo-Christian background, then you might be familiar with the story of Babel because you were probably taught about it as a child. If you are unfamiliar with the biblical account, it tells of the time when everyone on earth all spoke the same language but God confused the languages.
