A Tribute to Harry Belafonte (1927-2023) ~ Entertainer, Activist, and Humanitarian

Harry Belafonte passed away, on April 25, 2023, at the age of 96. He left an indelible mark in the history and the heart of America.

“I think America offers a dream that cannot be fulfilled as easily anywhere else in the world as it could be fulfilled here. …” ~ Harry Belafonte

Harry Belafonte

  • If you were preparing a list of iconic and legendary American entertainers, then Harry Belafonte would be on that list.
  • If you were making a list of notable civil rights activists in America, then Harry Belafonte would be on that list.
  • If you were making a list of humanitarians worthy of double honor for their good works, then Harry Belafonte would be on that list.
“If I’ve impacted on one heart, one mind, one soul, and brought to that individual a greater truth than that individual came into a relationship with me having, then I would say that I have been successful.” ~ Harry Belafonte

MAYA ANGELOU - STILL I RISE

Honoring Dr. Maya Angelou,
American Author & Poet (1928 - 2014).

“I speak to the black experience, but I am always talking about the human condition -- about what we can endure, dream, fail at, and still survive.” ― Maya Angelou (Quote Source)

Celebrating Ms. Angelou's contributions to literature.  She has earned her rightful place among the great poets and writers, not just in American literature, but in world literature.  He writings speak to the soul and heart of every individual and about the life of every human being, not just to the African-American experience.

Be My Valentine? Did You Say "My Religion is Love"?

Not your usual Valentine, I know.

But I think it's a perfect valentine.

So who was it that said “My religion is love”? Wasn’t it one of the sons of Bob Marley?

Ooops!  Looked it up.  My bad.  It was the title and song lyrics by Ziggy Marley that said "Love Is My Religion".  Close enough!

It was the late Bob Marley himself who said: "Overcome the devils with a thing called love."

I believe in giving credit where credit is due, but they were both just rewording the wisdom of Jesus.

No matter who you want to give the credit to, you would all be hard-pressed to say that it isn't a golden rule to live by!

SIDE NOTE:

~ Born: February 6, 1945, Nine Mile, Jamaica ~ Died: May 11, 1981, Miami, FL. Had he lived to see this day, the legendary reggae artist, Bob Marley would have been 70+ years old.  He and his music live on through his children.  They make sure of that!
Happy belated birthday, Mr. Marley!

Ever since it was publicized that Prince died without leaving a will, my curiosity is peaked and want to know how his assets will be divided up. My first post on this topic was:

This is the second news headline:

Prince Guitar To Be Auctioned In Beverly Hills - losangeles.cbslocal.com

A bright yellow, uniquely shaped guitar used by Prince to perform such tunes as 'Cream' and 'Gett Off' is going up for auction.

Bet you're imagining yourself playing that guitar, aren't you?  Or at least holding it.
