Celebrating the Genius of Einstein and #GR101

Started scanning a tweet stream this morning and found out that folks were celebrating the 101st anniversary of Einstein's Theory of General Relativity.  Collecting quotes is my hobby and in particular, always like to read what Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955) had to say.  Plucked this one from the Twitter feed.  It was shared by George Shiber.  (See embedded tweet below.)

https://twitter.com/GeorgeShiber/status/793608381613350912

Mr. Einstein died the year I was born.  It's not like we would have ever been best buds, but I fancy myself sometimes having a conversation with him.  Were we having a tête-à-tête, my response to his statement above would be:

"Not even a genius like you, Mr. Einstein, can comprehend all of God's thoughts. But if a fool would desire to understand just one of God's thoughts, they'd come out ahead.  (Wink. Wink.)"

Einstein always acknowledged The One Who gave him his brilliant mind.  That's what I most admired about him.

What is the Standard for Poverty?

“ The poor ye have always with you.” { John 12: 8 }

Not only are the poor always with us but they are all over the world. From what I can tell - by comparison - there's “poor” and there's PO!

P-O … have to break off the word, because some people can't afford the last two letters.

Growing up in my home in Liberty City / Miami, Florida, we were considered “financially disadvantaged”. When I was a child we lived in the “projects” - short for federal housing projects, which is an initiative of the U.S. Government to house people with low income who could not afford to buy their own home or pay rent at the current market rates for a nice neighborhood. You could say we were “poor” but bet there are people in other countries who would beg to differ.

America has poor people. Other countries have PO PEOPLE!!!

  • For those who live outside of the United States of America – does your government provide some sort of housing for the poor?
  • How are the less fortunate treated where you live?

My Best of Halloween Posts on G+ - Superstitions

"Another Halloween superstition occurred at midnight. That was the time when boys and girls went into the garden blindfolded and each pulled a cabbage (some claimed it was kale runts). Supposedly, the form of the cabbage head and its stalk denoted the physical peculiarities of the person’s future husband or wife. There was also a belief that if the roots tasted sweet or sour, it reflected the future spouse’s temperament."

Fun fact about holiday traditions during the 19th century gleaned from a link shared via Google Plus by Geri Walton.

Glad she shared.  Also glad it's not true!  ☺

Not related but of significant note, Ms. Walton is the author of "Marie Antoinette’s Confidante: The Rise and Fall of the Princesse de Lamballe". Just an FYI.

After listening/reading to all the doom and gloom business reports about Twitter not being likely to survive and maintain its place among the social media giants, I decided to ignore them. Just updated my Twitter profile for one of my niche Twitter accounts. It's for shoppers, shopaholics, wish listers, and such like.

Become Bruce Lee or the 10th Doctor Who for Halloween

Thought people might have trouble deciding on a Halloween costume to wear. Especially guys. Tried to make it an easy choice.

Can you get any easier if you say:

  • Choose between Bruce Lee or

  • Doctor Who (The Tenth One, my favorite).

I could not believe the initial reactions and feedback.

Aren't the lines clearly drawn?

It would be easy for me to pick. I'd be both!!
That's right! I'd figure out a way to wear both costumes!

2,500 Movies Challenge | Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982) (Reblog)

I love old movies. On the hunt for a recommendation and came across this movie review of "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" (1982) starring Steve Martin (of "Saturday Night Live" fame). This blog is published by "Dave" and he plans to review a total of 2500 movies. This reblogged movie review is Number 1060. It was posted in 2010. As of June 2014, he was still posting! So much for setting yourself an achievable goal.

Classic Movies: The Wreck of the Mary Deare (1959)

I heart classic movies.

  • True stories about shipwrecks or ships lost at sea always tantalize you. You just got to know what happened! However, if you never really quite know all the truth, you can always make something up!

  • The Wreck of the Mary Deare is a classic movie that stars two powerhouse American actors, Gary Cooper (1901 - 1961) and Charlton Heston (1923 - 2008). Based on a novel by Ralph Hammond Innes.

Obama's Healthcare Reform - Will It Remain Law or Become History?

(Updated Oct 2017.)

(Updated Oct 2016.)
Access to proper healthcare for all the citizens of the United States of America should be and should have always been a given; not a topic for philosophical debate, as if we're all great minds gathering together on the Areopagus trying to reach an agreement on the purpose and meaning of life, and why - if God does exist - why He couldn't create human beings with perfect health who never need a physician any way!!  But since He didn't and some of US do get sick, who are the ones that truly deserve to receive medical treatment?!  Cause clearly some of US are more important than others.
(Whatever!  Just write it off as my bad attitude!)

President Barack Obama speaks at a town hall m...

But healthcare is big business here in the USA and if an industry's cash flow is going to be "possibly" disrupted by a "law", well one can expect lengthy heated and robust discussion on the matter for ... ??? ... for forever!!

Back in November 2012, shared these links to suite.io (formerly Suite101) articles via my business page on Google+ - Insurance Mart and Insurance SMART; and hashtagged them #healthcarereform #healthcare #health #obamacare.  Recycling them here at my blog for historical reference purposes.*

  • The "opposition" to Obamacare made it plain on several occasions that they have a mission to REPEAL OBAMACARE.
  • Obama has tried do his best. Best or not, 2016 he has to go.
  • So! 2016 and beyond - Will Obamacare remain law or become a historical reference point like the efforts all the other US presidents before him?
(Yes it is the last quarter of 2014.  Time waits for no one.  There will be a newly elected leader soon and don't think this subject won't be a hot button topic on his or her "To Do List".  So do your homework, and ready yourselves to understand the PROs and CONs when this matter is being publicly discussed reasonably and intelligently - for the good of all the people.)

JACK AND DIANE (2012): Saturday night movie pick? Watch at your own risk.

OK. OK! I get it! It's an awful movie. I'm convinced. Not gonna watch it. Not into horror movies anyway. Growing up, every Saturday AFTER 11 o' clock was the night to watch creepy scary horror movies. It wasn't a rule of my parents. It was a television programming decision made by our local stations that we all abided by. These days, occasionally, like if it's the Halloween season, a horror flick will be on my watch list. If a thorough critique and review of a horror film is needed, this is was my GO TO blog, "Written in Blood". Everything you need to know about horror films and some stuff you didn't even know you needed to know! Glad to have this blog to help me decide whether my time will be wasted or not. :)  Saturday night movie pick?  Watch at your own risk.

The blog publisher's review of this film was sort of like my review of NOAH (2014).  That movie was awful!  So bad you feel compelled to warn viewers in advance.

* * Apologies.  The blog owners decided to unpublish his blog.  Movie is available on Amazon Video, if interested.

Saving grace for the viewer?  Hmmm? On the plus side, neither movie was bad enough to ruin the joy of munching on a bowl or a box of buttered popcorn

Or do you just want to know what human beings are capable of doing to other human beings?

This story is about an entire family who had an insatiable craving for consuming human flesh. The incidents happened circa 1400 A.D. They were finally brought to justice and executed.

Executed??!!  Can't believe they didn't have a lawyer to plead insanity as their defense. For sure, they were all basket cases!!
