Entertainment : Bollywood Movie Review : Karam (2005)

It never fails, no matter what online social blogging or writing community I join, the discussion always gets around to “favorites”. Favorite song. Favorite movie. Favorite book. And then, of course, the “faves” can vary. Favorite song from a movie. Favorite book adapted to film. Favorite soundtrack to a movie. On and on and on.

My husband introduced me to foreign films and in particular, to Bollywood films. If you watch Hindi movies you know that there are literally thousands (possibly even millions) of them with all kinds of wonderful music and songs. There is this one movie which stars Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra and Bollywood hunk John Abraham, where she sings the most beautiful haunting melody. Heard that song the first time and it hooked me! Instant favorite!! To me it was the best vocal performance ever by Ms. Chopra.

That's it. That's my review. This movie is a love story. It is intense! The bad guys are really bad. When the bad guys confront each other, you're happy you're not stuck in the middle. Your heart bleeds for every innocent victim that has the misfortune to cross paths with them. So when a bad guy is married to a good girl … ______. If I fill out the blank, it'll spoil the movie for those who may not have seen it. Even if you don't have time to watch the film, at least take a few minutes to listen to Ms. Chopra's performance of a song that is definitely on my favorites list.

The 2005 film is “Karam”.

The song is “Tinka Tinka”.

There is this wonderful community on Google Plus called “Bollywood (Hindi/Indian) Music” and members are asked to share Hindi/Indian music they like or love.

Well so far two videos were submitted by me, but even though the Moderator accepted one of my posts, the music was actually American songs that had been performed by famous Bollywood stars. One by Shahrukh Khan, a timeless classic “Stand By Me” (accepted by the Moderator); and the other by Priyanka Chopra, a modern collaborative crossover effort with hip hop all-star Will I. Am, lead singer for the group Black Eyed Peas (rejected by the Moderator - No biggie!  It's cool!).

The truth is there were so many songs and so much music from Indian films that I've enjoyed it was difficult to choose. The video below is a clip from a movie - “Yuvvraaj” - about 3 brothers; two of them fighting over an inheritance that was left to their brother who is extremely gifted but unable to care for himself. The stars are Salman Kahn, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor. All of the music for this film is incredible! This performance by Anil Kapoor is unbelievable!!

Even though this music is not a throwback for me, it's going in my throwback collection anyway.

It's true music is universal, but … Hurray for Bollywood! :)

Chehre Jo Dekhe Hain - What's Your Rashee? | Priyanka Chopra

My previous post about Priyanka Chopra Music Crossover Efforts was well received by my blog visitors.

This particular video is one of my significant other's favorites because he thinks it shows Ms. Chopra's character range and versatility as an actress.

What say you? Agree or Disagree.
