Did Alexander the Great Think He Was Great?

Alexander the Great, a historical figure that many people like to write or talk about.  Name written in history or not, every human being is just an A-O-P (“another ordinary person.”) Most ordinary people and extraordinary people usually want the same thing. To be happy.

Do you wonder sometimes if Alexander thought he great?

Here is what you see when you look up close at this son of a king.
  • He was a teenager when he started out on the path wherein he was determined to become a memorable military and political leader, whom generals even to this day study to improve their leadership skills and abilities.

Eh! Not really. His dad didn’t like him and wanted to get him out of his face, so he sent him away to fight! No matter who you are, if one or both of your parents don’t like you, that messes with your head!

  • He was dead by the time he reached his early 30s.
There are different stories about his death, but if you ask me, I say his mind and body just burned out!

When you look at him up close, you may be moved to think, ‘How awful!!’

There are different stories about how he died, but how he lived wasn’t really all that great either!

By contrast to my own life.

  • At age 16, I was just figuring out who I was and what I wanted to be. 1972 marked the year I graduated from high school and my first year at the University of Miami. Also, my beloved father passed away. He was taken away from me, but he never sent me away from him.

  • By the time I was in my 30s, I had been happily married to the man of my dreams, with kids, for about a decade. Seems to me like Alexander the Great had a sad life and didn’t do much living at all! After 15 years of nothing but fighting and killing, maybe he was thinking: ‘This is my life? What’s so great about it?’

Travel: USA Cities: Grapevine, Texas

In 1843, Texas political leaders and leaders of 10 Native American Indian nations signed a treaty of“peace, friendship, and commerce”, which allowed settlers to make their new homes in Grapevine, Texas. This city, which was named for its wild mustang grapes (Vitis Mustangensis), has been included on official lists published by CNN Money such as “America’s Best Places to Live” and “America’s Best Small Cities”. Probably the only two people who don’t think the City of Grapevine, Texas is a great place to visit or to live are the notorious bank-robbing duo known as Bonnie and Clyde. It’s where Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker breathed their last breath; May 23, 1934. They had it coming!

American English: Everyday Words Not Used Every Day Until the 20th Century

There are many words we now use every day, that were not everyday words until the 20th century. I always enjoyed the cartoon called Road Runner. There were no spoken words in the animated episodes. Or so I thought. Come to think of it, there was one word and the Road Runner always said it twice. “Beep Beep!”

Mark Nichol published a list of “25 Words Coined by Twentieth-Century Authors”.

Did you know that the word “beep” was invented by a 20th-century scientist and novelist named Arthur C. Clarke? Since some of the words on Nichol’s list are related to technology, it’s no surprise they were unheard of until the 20 century. But the other nontech words are surprising to me and may surprise you too.

Curious to know the other 24 words?

NFTs Help You Guard Your Ownership of Digital Assets

I chose an excerpt from this article because I thought these words were the perfect lead-in for describing the intent of the inventors of NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
“ … most digital art hasn’t entered the traditional art market world because there hasn’t been a way to track provenance and therefore ownership. For an art object to retain value, it has to be tracked back to the creator in some fashion and it needs to be unique, or at least in limited supply. ...”

This article is very complicated and hard (for me) to digest. But if you own digital assets, like art or music, you should read this. When I saw the name Jay-Z and Beyoncé in the article I know this is serious business. I got the gist of the article.
  • NFTs are a sort of “protection” for your digital asset, just like copyrights and patents.

That's how I understand NFTs.

If anybody wants to enlighten me further or correct me, I'm open to discussion.

Entertainment: 6 Bollywood Films With An Awesome Soundtrack

These days video rental stores are practically nonexistent because of online video streaming. But three (3) decades ago, video rental stores changed my life. How so? The stores introduced me to foreign films and in particular, to Bollywood films. What’s so great about these Indian movies? The music! Yes, the dancing is awesome too. But you can’t have dancing without music. Right?

Many of these films have an awesome soundtrack. In fact, it’s fun to search YouTube just looking for the songs. There are lots and lots of films but these are my Top 6. Yes, 5 out of 6 are Priyanka Chopra-Jonas movies. I’m a huge PCJ fan.

*Karam (2005 ‧ Drama)
A young married couple should be able to lead a fairy tale “happily ever after” lifestyle. If only the husband wasn’t a paid contract killer; a bad guy who made some other bad guys really angry. It made their lives really complicated.

*What’s Your Raashee? (2009 ‧ Bollywood/Comedy)
A guy needs to find a wife or lose his inheritance. He decides to choose his bride according to her “raashee” (her astrological sign).

*Fashion (2008 ‧ Bollywood/Drama)
A young woman pursues her dream of being a top fashion model, making sacrifices and bad decisions, along the way to get to the top.

*Yuvvraaj (2008 ‧ Drama)
There were light-hearted moments. But there was nothing funny about the plot. There are 3 brothers. One brother is mentally challenged and when the father dies, he leaves all the money to this son. The other 2 brothers, who feel that have been cheated, scheme to try to get the inheritance.

*7 Khoon Maaf (2011 ‧ Thriller/Drama)
The film is called “7” because the woman has seven husbands. Each time she marries, she is certain the man she chose will be her soulmate for life. It doesn’t work out and she conveniently becomes a widow, albeit she is never charged with any crime. In the end, she does find her soulmate. To be fair, the other six had it coming.

*Dostana (2008 ‧ Comedy/Drama)
Two guys need to rent an apartment at a complex in Miami, Florida USA with one catch. They have to be gay. They pretend to be gay, sign the lease, and their roommate is a hot young heterosexual female that both of them fall for; only she doesn’t know it because she thinks they’re gay. The movie is cute and funny!

Why Should We Be Thankful For Social Media? (Especially Twitter)

Is there is one thing we can all thank social media for? Yes! QUOTES!

No matter how you’re feeling, ...
No matter who you’re trying to impress, inspire and motivate, ...
No matter if you just need that perfect statement to begin or end your speech or your sermon …

Just scan social media posts.  Especially Twitter!

There’s got to be a quote for it!

  • Tech developers say there's an app for that.
  • Senator Elizabeth Warren says there's a plan for that.
  • With social media, whatever "that" is, there's a quote for that.

In many instances, you will find just the quote you were looking for and in some instances, you’ll find a nice image that goes with it. It might be a photo or drawing of the person who is being quoted. It might just be a pretty picture or a thought-provoking image that is perfectly suited to the quote.

Whether you find the words or the words with an appropriate picture, you are bound to find the quotes that will keep you going! Words that make you happy, make you thankful, make you stronger, make you think. Words that help you prioritize, give you perspective, focus you, and push you forward.

To that last tweet, I quote myself: “NOT! Uhh … you posted this on social media.” (O.o)

Quotes and humor keep me going. ☺
Hope these quotes keep you going too!
