Mother Africa : Trees of Africa : Baobab Tree

“Wisdom is like a baobab tree; no one individual can embrace it.  (African Proverbs and Sayings)

The baobab tree (adansonia) is the national tree of Madagascar and has been called the tree of life (although I personally believe that any tree on the planet can be called a tree of life**).

Trees Deserve Respect

Ailanthus altissima is an ornamental tree grown mainly for shade and also for its leaves which the silkworm feeds on. Sounds prettier when it is called by its unscientific name: "tree of heaven". The acacia thrives in the wilderness of Paran (the location of several historic events in the Bible).

The Olive Tree has been highly regarded since ancient times ...

The olive branch holds a special place in Jewish and Christian beliefs and traditions.

There were olive trees in the garden of Gethsemane where Jesus and his disciples often withdrew to for spiritual solace. There are still olive trees growing in Gethsemane today.

Olive trees are considered as "Immortal" because they can live for up to two hundred years, and just before a tree dies, new branches sprout from its roots.

Throughout history, the olive tree has been regarded as a symbol of peace and goodwill.

There are artists living and working in the Holy City of Bethlehem who specialize in sculpting unique treasures and creating inspirational art from olive wood.

  • The craft of olive wood carving has been practiced since the 4th century.

Happy Tree Tuesday!

It's Tree Tuesday. YAY!! Something they do on Google Plus. Don't know if you have a profile or page on G+, however, if you do, let me know. Maybe we can hook up. Let's not get off track. Trees are the reason earth is the best and ONLY planet for humans to inhabit. You can follow the space explorers on their trek adventures to try to see if Mars and Venus (or wherever) can be colonized. That's your decision. But my efforts will be lent to any campaign that supports saving the trees!

My contributions to Tree Tuesday (click here) are not consistent or regular, but they have been substantial enough so that whoever it was that invented this G+ posting practice or tradition can know that this initiative has my backing two thousand percent!! Let the global public recognize that i heart trees

"The oak tree is epitome of strength, it symbolizes endurance, power, and royal attributes by its sheer size."

What can we learn from trees?

Ever heard of the Judas tree?

There's the pomegranate tree and then ... there's the other pomegranate tree.

Think China will take the lead and save the planet?

Earth Day and Tree Tuesday - What a Great Combination!

Content previously published Apr 22, 2014.  Updated / republishing for Earth Day 2017.

I should be more diligent since the earth is everyone’s home. Which means Earth Day should probably be marked on my calendar and every Tuesday I should have a contribution for Tree Tuesday. Let’s not even mention Climate Change or Global Warming. But I have to do a post because today, April 22nd, 2014, because Earth Day and Tree Tuesday are combined. So below are a few links to show my care and concern about planet earth, our home. Can’t really say lot because science was never my best subject.

The Earth flag is not an official flag, since ...
The Earth flag is not an official flag, since there is no official governing body over Earth. The flag holds a photo transfer of a NASA image of the Earth on a dark blue background. It has been associated with Earth Day. Although the flag was originally copyrighted, a judge ruledhttp://www.tabberone.com/Trademarks/CopyrightLaw/Copyrightability/articles/EarthFlagVsAlamoFlag_A.shtml that the copyright was invalid. Indian Banyan Tree And The Pippal Tree

- These trees have cultural significance as they are considered sacred by the Hindus and Buddhists.  The banyan tree is the National Tree of India.  All trees should have cultural significance to everybody.  Next link!

Trees Deserve Respect

- The presence of trees is what separates earth from all the other planets.

Celebrate Earth Day and Help Protect the Planet

- Donate, reuse and recycle; save energy; and maintain an awareness of environmental needs.  So what if you can’t afford a hybrid car.  You can use a recycle bin and turn off lights!

DON’T KILL RAPTORS!!

- Raptors are birds of prey.  They serve a very important purpose.  They help maintain a balance in our environment.
