Entertainment and Leisure : Recommended Video Games

I don't play video games and have never played. But I have read an article titled on Who Invented Video Games?  My generation thought board games were all the rage. My children, on the other hand, are video game enthusiasts. They can play all day and all night. Apparently, the games are highly addictive.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
Why do parents let their kids spend so much time participating in this type of activity? Can't speak for other parents, but for me, it's because they're easy to find that way.

There used to be a commercial that came on television late at night and the voice would say something to the effect: “It's 3 AM. Parents, do you know where your children are?

I'm thinking: “Yes! Yes I do!!”
They could be out robbing a convenience store. But oh no! They're role-playing. One of them is Lara Croft, and right at the moment, she's doing whatever it takes to survive on a mysterious island among hostile inhabitants.  So much for my parenting skills.

Tomb Raider (by Square Enix) is one of the many games my kids have in their VG library. Noticed it only because I enjoyed the watching the movies which starred Angelina Jolie and because one day my daughter was playing and Ms. Croft kept getting killed over and over and over. I'm like: “Child! You need to up your survival skills!” Don't know how to play this game, but do know Lara Croft is a survivor! Whatever my daughter was doing she wasn't doing it right! This game has won over 40 awards. That's probably a good indicator of its popularity. Rated M by ERSB, which means among other things it has intense violence, and not suitable for kids under the age of 17.

With respect to games for kids under the age of 17, three have been suggested by my 13-year-old. (NOTE TO READER: Her response to a question about “Favorite Video Games” was previously published in an online forum at Postloop Portal.  Reposted here because months before her suggestions were shared at the portal, she had been advising me to write an article or a blog entry about video games.  The other stuff I write about is really boring, she says.  Her honest criticism and constructive input are very much appreciated. :) )

All single player games. (Because she says multi-player VGs make her feel crowded.)
1) Final Fantasy X – the characters are likable; story and art graphics are fantastic!
2) Final Fantasy VII - Crisis Core – the theme of the game is really cool! Plus Aerith and Zach are great characters
3) Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep – like the fact that FF characters and Disney characters are mixed together. (No doubt, the business geniuses behind this collaborative effort feel the same way.)

Sous Vide Cooking Tips | Scoop.it

Credit is being given to the French for Sous Vide (pronounced soo-veed) Cooking, which is a method of preparing foods by vacuum sealing and cooking packed foods in controlled temperature water.

I've seen Ming Tsai use this technique and he was trained as a chef in France.

No matter. When it comes to cooking, if the French say we can do it, we can do it!

Furthermore, according to my thinking, when Ming Tsai says two thumbs up and shows you how to, you've run out of excuses.  Because Mr. Tsai knows the best to cook anything! Hey! I'm a loyal fan! :)

Use Your Browser to Generate Cash with Qmee Extension

Install Qmee Extension Browser and Earn Rewards
That's what they say!

Many people are installing extensions on their Chrome browser that have a “promise of earnings”. Some of the extensions that I have tried just don't suit my daily online working habits. In other words, the way the extension works interferes with how I do my work. Some of the extensions have a lot of pop-ups.

I installed Qmee Extension on my Chrome browser. Added it because it says you can earn from “searching”. I have to search to do my home biz work anyway, Why not?

Once it was installed a follow-up eMail was received describing the product further.  The communication said that you earn rewards for shopping and searching online and earn cash for each survey that you successfully complete.

This extension does not really interfere with my daily online search activity. So far I am very happy with it. My account shows a whopping 8 cents! 💲

Clearly reaping the rewards for my online searches as I have not done any shopping or taken any surveys.

The owners also claim many users earn hundreds a year just by completing surveys.

I'm passing this information on because I know there are people who like to take surveys. Quite frankly, I never have much success with surveys.  However, maybe I'll try a survey via Qmee and see if I have any success.

The real plus for using this extension:
Cash out your rewards whenever via PayPal as there is no minimum cash out amount.  It's kind of like having a piggy bank or having a cash stash for a rainy day.

What do you think?
Sound like something of interest to you? There are people making money using all kinds of apps on their mobile devices. But there are some old fogies like me who still use a laptop and some even “older fogies” that use a desktop. Why can't we earn for surfing the Internet or shopping or sharing our opinions?

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Meaning

Which film did you first see the lovely Julie Andrews?

The Sound of Music OR Mary Poppins?

Fell in love with Ms. Andrews, when she was “a problem” to the sisters at a convent in Austria; she was cast as “Maria” in “The Sound of Music” (Release Date March 2, 1965).  But she wasn’t really a problem.  In fact, she was just an ordinary young girl, who … married a rich widower, became a good stepmother to his children from a previous marriage, and fast forward … together the entire family – all being extremely talented singers organized themselves as a singing group and escaped from their country which was taken over by the evil Germans.  The movie was based on a true story.  But let’s face it!  Sometimes real life is just not all that.  Not to a 10 year old anyway.  It was the sound of the music that won me over.  “Climb every mountain … follow every rainbow, ’til you find your dream”.

By contrast, became fascinated and fixated on Ms. Andrews when she arrived on the scene, by way of umbrella, as “Mary Poppins” (Release Date August 26, 1964); an extraordinary nanny with amazing powers who could do all sorts of wonderful things. Must confess, never bothered to learn the meaning of that famous word or break it down.

Figured “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” must be describing who she really was or something she was able to do. (O.o)  It was an accomplishment for me, just to learn how to spell the word. But now I know what it means too and I like it! :)

Ethiopian or Philistine? Am I a Dog?

Published this post and although the stats show it had a reasonable amount of views and even a few Plus Ones, the question has still not been answered.

Can an Ethiopian change his skin? *

My answer is:
“Never been to Oklahoma but do like Sir Paul McCartney.”
(Yep. That’s right. DUH! Totally changed the subject.)

The question was prompted because of some dialogue in a Denzel Washington movie. Had the script been written and instead of saying “Ethiopian”, if the character had hurled his insult by threatening to call Mr. Washington’s character a “Philistine”, the scene in that film would have made sense to me.

Most Bible students know the menacing Philistines were the enemies of the Israelites. There were constant struggles for control of the land of Canaan (an older name for Palestine). A study, just a quick study, of the people of Philistia might lead one to conclude that if they had not always been battling with the nation of Israel, they would have been at war with another group. They liked to fight!!

WHY? Because they could!!

The Philistines were skilled warriors; on land and at sea. In fact, they were once called Sea Peoples. Their navy consisted of fleets of the finest warships during that time, expertly manned by experienced soldier/seamen. As for their army? The infantry, i.e. trained foot soldiers, possessed superior weapons of iron and wielded them masterfully and mercilessly.

For hundreds of years, the Philistines waged continuous war against the Israelites. David, Israel’s second king succeeded where the nation’s first king, Saul, had failed. Around 1000 B.C., he finally subdued these fierce fighting men and once crushed, their power began to decline. Other nations coming in afterward, would reap the benefits of David’s military efforts. Somewhere around 800 to 700 B.C., the Assyrians attacked and conquered cities of Philistia. Then between 597 and 586 B.C., when the Jewish people (Israelites) were exiled to Babylonia (as was foretold to them by their prophets), the Philistines were taken away as slaves too.

Not much is known about the origins of this ancient people and none of their literature has survived; just fragments of pottery and coffins, some images on Egyptian reliefs, and what is written about them in Old Testament scriptures. Historians and archaeologists have very little to reconstruct their past.  However, according to an article published in Science News, an ancient cemetery has been found that might yield some clues.

Bower, Bruce. "Ancient Cemetery Provides Peek into Philistines' Lives, Health." Science News. Society for Science & the Public, 22 Nov. 2016. Web. 22 Nov. 2016.  (https://www.sciencenews.org/article/ancient-cemetery-provides-peek-philistines-lives-health).

Ancient cemetery provides peek into Philistines' lives, health

In our vernacular (American English), to call someone a “Philistine” is not a compliment. It is a term of contempt and means the person has uncultivated tastes or lacks culture (i.e. lacks refined behavior, good manners and/or social graces). That sounds very subjective. Perhaps the easiest way to explain the insult would be to take the question the Philistine giant, Goliath, asked a young shepherd boy, and superimpose it. Imagine that the person you’re staring down asks you this same question and you simply nod your head up and down as an affirmative response, because you don’t want to waste your breath.

Am I a dog?” **

My Picks for Best Harrison Ford Movies

Most people remember Harrison Ford for his roles in Star Wars, or as Indiana Jones, or as the mature CIA intelligence analyst Jack Ryan. Yes, he is loved for his portrayals as all of these memorable and admirable characters. But if anybody ever asked me … which nobody ever did … so the information is being volunteered … these are the 3 best Harrison Ford movies ever made! Don't even argue with me about this. I will defend my choices to the bitter end!

What can I say? Have always been a sucker for a good love story and these were all good love stories! The first two movies - Witness and Frantic - the plot is intense! The third movie? You say to yourself: Love overcomes everything!

Freelance Writing Opportunities : Are You a Wizzler Too? (Wizzley.com)

Once heard the late Gene Kelly (1912 - 1996) describe the late Michael Jackson (1958 - 2009) as being “eclectic”. The word “ec·lec·tic” is an adjective and it means, in the sense that it was used by Mr. Kelly, that Mr. Jackson derived ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources, and applied this knowledge quite well, especially when he performed.

If I were to describe my collection of pages published at Wizzley.com, the word eclectic would paint a very nice picture.

My first article – accepted for publication two five years ago - was about modern day Arabs who claim to be the seed of Abraham and there is no reason why anybody should doubt their claims. The Hebrew patriarch that the Jews, Christians and Muslims all call Father Abraham had many sons (one by his first wife, Sarah; one by his first wife's maid servant, Hagar; and several more by his second wife, Keturah, whom he married after the death of his first wife). Those sons had a bunch more sons and the lineage just kept on growing!! One of the sons of Abraham was Ishmael and he went to live in the desert. It is believed that the “desert people”, the Arabs, are his descendants.

My pages are eclectic because finding a “niche” has proven to be a most difficult task. Can't seem to find a specific topic to focus on. Consequently, my pages are about movies , music and books ; real estate , art , history , food , blogging , etc. To date, 37 pages have been published.

The Wizzley Team encourages their writers to publish a Wizzography ; which is very similar to our introductions here at Persona Paper; only it's not required. Very much enjoy writing at this site and the community is exceptionally friendly and supportive and … way smarter than me!  :)

Book Suggestion: Knight Life by Peter David

The legendary King Arthur emerges from an enchanted cave and returns to reign once again in Camelot. Only it’s 1500 years later and Camelot is now known as New York, New York. Hardly a fairy tale city. “Because New Yorkers are all crazy” and they are not in the habit of calling anybody “Your highness”.

So don’t think you can just show up and take over. You have to run a campaign for a public office and win the votes of the people. Running for Mayor shouldn’t be too hard. Especially since you still have Merlin as your trusted counselor.

My Shopping Channel is an Active Member of Alignable.com

Several months back I was invited to join a community aimed at promoting small businesses, connecting local businesses to each other, providing a means of referring customers and clients to each other, and other support.  It was a good sense decision to join this community.  I have been a work-at-home professional since 2007 and was invited to join by Heather McLaughlin from Performance Marketing Group.

Can you believe it?  They found me and extended me an invitation.  It wasn't hard to find me.  I have a public LinkedIn profile.  But someone looked!  ☺  I'm glad they did reach out because I have had nothing but positive dealings with all of the community - the staff and the members.

View my business profile on Alignable.com:

Most of the time I exchange business information (like passing out a business card) and post links for new products available at my various online shopping sites.  Occasionally I am asked to participate in a Q & A forum with other businesses so that we can trade ideas with each other and figure out some "best practices" routines that might work for everybody.

One of the questions I provided a response to was:

This was my response.

I'm an affiliate marketer working at home. Folks don't have to shop via my site. They can shop at the sites of other WAH marketers. It's a bazillion of us out there trying to swim to the top and get noticed so we can earn commissions from sales of products by people who came to the vendor's site via our website.
Our site visitors can always just can skip over our site and go straight to the vendor. Either way, the goal is for you to end up with a quality product for yourself or a lovely gift that the recipient won't re-gift or return. :)
Just started a new shopping blog on Tumblr: Go Shopping Bees. It shares my affiliate referral links, links from fellow affiliate marketers, and cool stuff found around the web. Consider it my shopping wish list for you. Happy Shopping!! :)

Amazing Fact Generator

This website is extremely popular so the information presented in this post may not be news to many of you. But for those who have never heard of it, check out this site called “Mental Floss”.

Better yet, need ideas for something to write about?

Have a go at the tool they refer to as the Amazing Fact Generator.

For example:
  • FACT! Every film John Cazale appeared in was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.

That's Fact No. 48639

Isn't that cool?

So my only question now is:
  • Who is John Cazale? (O.o)

Need to do a little bit of research to find out, but he could be mentioned in my next blog post. Who knows?  :)
