Dream Italian? Think Italian. Be Italian!

Many people have a dream. They want to vacation in Italy or move and live there permanently. Did you know that Italy is a country of choice for some expatriates? It’s not so unbelievable. After all, Italy invented pizza! 🙂 I only know Italy from watching movies and travel shows and reading about it. Here are some interesting and fun facts about this European country.

* Italy is shaped like a boot!

* Italy has the lowest birthrate in all of Europe.

* Naples introduced the world to pizza!

* In Ivrea they celebrate Lent by throwing oranges at each other.

* Every day 3,000 Euro get thrown into the Trevi Fountain.

* Florence Nightingale was named for the city of her birth.

* Rome is known as the “Eternal City” and the “Caput Mundi”.

July is a Popular Month for Independence Days

While doing research to write an article about my father's land of birth, came across an interesting … uuhhh … ??? ... “coincidence”? The month of July is a very popular month for independence days.

  • The Bahamas - July 10th
  • United States of America - July 4th
  • Argentina - July 9th
  • France - July 14th
  • Colombia - July 20th
  • Cuba - 26th of July Movement
Didn't do extensive research but there looks like a pattern here.  Must be something about a hot summer month.

- Who would willingly choose to do battle in the dead of winter?

- Spring time is a time for lovers? The birds and the bees, the flowers and the trees. Etc.

- Autumn is out of the question. You can't sneak up on the enemy because the dead leaves on the ground make too much noise when you step on 'em!!

- Fighting for your freedom in the month of July?  Makes perfect sense.

Cool thing about The Bahamas is they peacefully negotiated their independence from the British. Now that's a noteworthy historical note!  Wouldn't you agree?

Travel and Vacation : The Bahamas - Beautiful Beaches, Conch Shells and Mangos

Both my father and my husband were from Nassau, Bahamas, so I always like to say a little something about this beloved country at different sites that I write for. Rather than rehash the content of my various articles published elsewhere on the web, decided that in this bubble I would simply share the YouTube video clip which is the famous scene from the very first James Bond movie, "Dr. No", where James Bond (played by Sean Connery) sings a few words from "Underneath the Mango Tree"; and Honey Rider (played by Ursula Andress) was also singing that song while she was collecting conch shells on a beach in The Bahamas.

The video doesn't include the complete dialogue, but Honey said that she could get $50 for one shell in Florida!

Grew in Miami, Florida. "Dr. No" was released 1962. Often wonder what the market price for a conch shell is these days. Enjoy the video!

Exotic Fruit: Pomegranates

Grew up in Miami, South Florida, which is just a 30-minute plane ride to The Bahamas. Both places have a wonderful array of all kinds of fruit – some people say tropical fruit, some say exotic fruit – no matter! It's fruit like sugar apples, star fruit, etc. and they are exquisitely delicious.  But one of the fruits that I find the most enjoyable doesn't grow in either places. POMEGRANATES! I really love pomegranates. Did you know this fruit has a very interesting history?   Read all about it.

(P.S. When you arrive at the page, scroll all the way down to find out where to get a recipe for Pomegranate Christmas Cake and I hope you will support the inclusion of pomegranates in the traditional Thanksgiving cornucopia by voting PRO in the Poll.☺☺)

Save The Bahamas!

Have a personal interest in The Bahamas and have always adored Sean Connery. So when I discover any information that includes them both in the same sentence, have to know more!! Old news? Yes! This article is dated July 2014.

Sean Connery joins Bahamas campaign to stop billionaire developing mansion - theguardian.com

BTW, I love the British newspaper The Guardian . Very glad that it's online and just noticed this publication won the Pulitzer Prize for 2014 for distinguished journalism. Bravo! [ as Clint Eastwood would say :) ] Also, just started following their Google+ business page . The page only has about 5 million followers. They could use another one. :)

But getting back to the article. It's some brew ha ha about an environmental matter and there were allegations about "special treatment" being given by government officials, and Mr. Connery wanted to lend his support, etc., etc.

Forget the article. Read the comments!
