Women in History: Florence Nightingale | Celebrating Nurses!

March is Women's History Month.

May 6th through 12th is National Nurses Week.

May 12th is International Nurses Day. This special day has been celebrated since 1965. The date was chosen because it is the B-Day (birthday) for Florence Nightingale, a pioneer in healthcare and health reform, and the mother of modern nursing.
"We are all ordinary people. But some of us are motivated to do extraordinary things. I am always curious to know what drives or drove another individual to pursue a certain path in their life such that they end up leaving behind marks in history that endure forever. One such character I studied is Florence Nightingale."

Consumer Electronics and Gadgets Wish List

A fellow freelance writer published his list of the Top 5 Technology Gadgets Christmas Wishlist. However, that was in 2018. Since it's 2020 and I know how fast technology is outdated or invented, I compared that list to tech gadgets on two lists for 2020.
For those who like gaming, TR's list includes the best games console; and for those into health and fitness, TR's list includes the best fitness tracker. (Singular. They only listed one tracker.)

As for me, the Robot Vacuum is still on MY wishlist.

But in that list of 100 gadgets, here are the tech toys that caught my eye:

* There is a Portable Photo Printer. I'm from the Polaroid generation. I remember when one of my brothers got a Polaroid Instant Camera for Christmas. When I saw that gadget I felt this really strong nostalgia vibe.

* The Compact Wall Charger is awesome! Carry it in your pocket or your purse and if you need to rapidly charge a smartphone or tablet, just stick in an electrical outlet. It will charge your device and has a feature that protects from overheating.

* The Robot Vacuum is Number 35 on this Top 100 List and still Numero Uno on my list.

* The Smart Wi-Fi Power Strip I like because my kids said that I should like it. They usually know what they're talking about for a lot of this tech stuff.

* The Hot+Cool Cryptomic Air Purifier. To me, this should be the first gadget on the list. Everybody needs to breathe pure air. I believe in air purifiers. I have worked in companies that had air purifiers in the offices. They are amazing!

* Number 100 on this list of 100 is a product that I would have never guessed. It's a Wind-Resistant Umbrella. An umbrella is not an item I usually list under tech gadgets. But this umbrella is no ordinary umbrella! It can survive wind gusts up to 72 mph. Uh-huh. I'm not buying it. I have no need for that. According to the Beaufort Wind Scale, gale-force hurricane winds for a storm are 64 - 73 mph. I grew up in Miami, Florida. I don't go outside in hurricanes and we get enough advanced warning to know that we're supposed to find shelter. I have no need for an umbrella that can withstand 72 mph cause I'm not stupid enough to go outside and try to brave that kind of wind force!

Anyway! That Top 100 List is very easy to peruse. It's a gallery of photos with a description of about 1 or 2 paragraphs and tells you where you can buy these gadgets and how much they cost.

Blogging Advice: Using Multiple Commenting System Plugins

** Sharing this link to blogging advice especially for newbie bloggers and recommend that they save it for future reference.

Have you ever visited a blog and scrolled down to leave a comment and the Comments box allows you to choose your profile? You can click Anonymous OR you can choose your social media profile, usually Twitter, Facebook and/or LinkedIn OR use your Disqus profile OR you can use your name, an eMail, and a site URL. Pick one of those profiles and leave your comments.

I love to visit a blog that has those types of Comments boxes. I think they're neat! ...

Do You Use Your Blog for Controversy?

Some people intentionally choose controversial topics to discuss via a blog post.

I know this forum has many blog publishers so let's discuss.

Here are a few reasons why I think a person would use their blog for controversy.

Reason (1)
They are very opinionated, don't allow the facts to change their point of view, and must tell the rest of the world how to make things right. It's a must if they're going to save the world!

Reason (2)
They just publish posts on controversial topics because it attracts readers. It's a similar tactic to that used by news media networks. The more sensational or controversial the subject, the more viewers and the higher the ratings and probably the more money their blogs will make. It's just about dollars and cents. Not resolutions or solutions.

Reason (3)
They are genuinely concerned about controversial social issues and hope to achieve a resolution or come up with a solution to the problem. For example: opposing female genital mutilation for religious reasons, and publishing a blog post to invite public discussion for the sake of persuading others that it should be stopped. The main purpose of the controversial post is to get people talking, get to the heart of the matter, and hopefully, find the right answers.

* * *

I seldom blog about controversial topics.  But if I blog about a topic that is controversial or stirs up controversy, my reason is number 3.

Do you pick controversial topics to
discuss via your blog? Why?

A Quick Review of Filinta Mustafa, an Ottoman Detective TV Series

I always enjoy a good mystery TV series, and a historical period drama series. Started watching one on Netflix that is set in 19th century Istanbul, Ottoman Empire. Very happy to find this series because I am curious about Istanbul and enjoy going back in time to view a recreation of life in previous centuries before we had cars and cell phones.  Published my review at RationalMind.club.

Work From Home Advice: Finding the Path to Successful Affiliate Marketing

My path to affiliate marketing began several years back when I saw a write-up about an online entrepreneur who insisted he earned thousands of dollars in affiliate referral commissions. He also said it was really easy to do!

Another respected blogger I stumbled upon because I was looking for advice on how to make money from my websites, said that he was able to generate consistent income of about $5K per month via affiliate referrals.

There are many more success stories out there. Some can be found right here at Forum Coin.

Unfortunately, my success story has not made the headlines yet. But that’s not to say one day it won’t ever happen. Income from my affiliate advertising efforts has been earned sporadically and my goal of achieving consistent regular income has not yet been achieved. However, the fact that I was able to earn commissions is an indication (at least to me) that earning consistent income from affiliate marketing is a possibility. So I keep on keeping on.

Though it's been said before it bears repeating because newbies are constantly coming on board and trying to make money in the online world.

QUESTION: How does one pursue the path to successful affiliate marketing?

ANSWER: First figure out what the best products are FOR YOU to promote and what the best affiliate marketing programs are FOR YOU to join. It's not a "one size, fits all" formula. Then, of course, you need to figure out how to promote and where to advertise. There are several ways, however, building niche websites and social media marketing are proving to be the most effective ways for my “entrepreneurial adventures”. If you find something else that works FOR YOU, that's OK!

These articles are of interest to me and may be helpful for you too!

Affiliate Marketing 101: How To Find The Best Products To Promote (blogpress.com)

The takeaway tips from this article is that digital products are more profitable to promote and Clickbank is the best way to get started. You may beg to differ. But the advice was offered freely.

The Best Affiliate Programs and 24 Ways To Promote Them (smartbusinesstrends.com)

There are several programs listed in the section titled “Best Affiliate Marketing Programs” that will require further exploration on my part. Confess to not having any familiarity with any of these programs or the promotion techniques and methods suggested. Would not recommend for newbie marketers. (Just my opinion.)

Where To Advertise Affiliate Links (charliepage.com)

Three tips outlined that could be attempted even if you’re a beginner or newbie: (1) social media advertising; mainly via Facebook; (2) solo ads which the article writer describes as “100% affiliate friendly”; and (3) BuySellsAds.com which is especially good to use if your website gets traffic. (My opinion.)

How to Promote Affiliate Products On Your Blog (shoutmeloud.com)

ShoutMeLoud.com publishes a free newsletter. Become a subscriber and you will have no regrets. Their advice is invaluable. At the end of this post there is a “Bonus Tip” and a quick list of marketing tips for 2016 and beyond!

How to Promote Affiliate Products without a Website and Make Money (trustiko.com)

Saved the best for last. This is the post that interested me the most because most say you need a website or a blog. But this site mentions the Yahoo Gemini ad system and incorporates links to two more informative articles – one to top rated affiliate programs and another with tips on how to make money using Pinterest.

None of these articles mentioned the actual words “dogged persistence”.

But when you read them you know it’s implied.

You Can Earn Income From Writing

I am active in various Facebook Groups and Google Plus communities which share blogging and writing tips and tricks, work at home advice, etc.

One question that pops up consistently is:
  • What are the best sites to earn from your writing?

The question would be a lot easier to answer if everybody agreed on one uniform definition for “best”.

My idea of “best” might be another person's idea of “mediocre” because the particular sites that I think are terrific don't really suit the other person's criteria for making money consistently and achieving their financial goals.

So the “best” that I can do is say the best sites that have worked for me.

perfect gift for teacher, students, professor, business man, writer, blogger

Forum CoinPostloop, and MyLot are social sites and/or forums that have paid me consistently.  The easiest way to earn at these sites is to just be active.  If you are active on social media and earn nothing; then you can be socially active at these sites and get paid for it.

My HUBs or articles published at HUBPages generate income.  As do my pages and posts at WizzleyWritedge, and Daily Two Cents.  The income is earned mainly via a Google Ad Sense revenue-share plan.  Publish evergreen content at these sites and then let the content generate residual income, while you work on other writing and blogging projects.

Medium is a site I use mainly to share republished content and redirect traffic to my primary income-earning websites. However, if you are a good writer you might be able to make good money if you sign up for their Medium Partner Program. I have not signed up as yet, but here is what someone else has said about their experience.

Listverse is another writing opportunity: Write & Get Paid $100. Sound too good to be true? It's true! I checked.

However, at this point, Medium and Listverse are on my To Do List.  I need to work up the courage up to submit my work. The competition is overwhelming and I'm terrified of rejection. I just need to get over it!

Anyway! Don't let my fear hold you back! If you've got the confidence and the skills ... Go for it!

Another potential income opportunity that I have yet to embrace is selling articles. I am at SEOClerks (a forum I joined via Postloop) where I see people selling their articles. I haven't tried it, but if they can make money from selling articles, why not me?  This is an income-avenue to be explored in the future.

FINAL POINT:
There are all kinds of writing opportunities out there and newsletters or blogs one can subscribe to for opportunities. I subscribe to Freedom With Writing. Check out this post: 38 Blogs that Pay Writers $50+ for Guest Posts.

Hope you found this post informative.

Social Sites That Pay : ForumCoin and Postloop

Followed the advice of a friend and signed up at a site called ForumCoin.com. This is a site where newbies and beginners trying to publish blogs can get advice and tips on affiliate marketing and blog monetization, suggestions on sites where they can make money online, etc. Members can even play games, share music, and just chit chat. You can create an income stream by being an active member of this site because for all of your various social activities you can earn money.

At ForumCoin, I found a discussion thread about a site called Postloop. You sign up free, follow the instructions carefully to open the portal and from there you proceed to qualify so that you can gain access to more blogs and forums where you can earn money for publishing posts and/or making comments at posts. You sort of have to pass a “test” first. The Postloop owners are looking for people with fairly good writing skills who can publish posts and/or provide comments that contribute to ongoing discussions in the forums or at the blogs. You don't earn money to get qualified. But once you are approved (or qualified), you will receive an eMail with a link that directs you to other forums and blogs you can sign up for that do pay you for your contributions.

When I received my eMail, I subscribed to two forums. Now I can invite others to join those forums. You don't have to go through Postloop. You can use my referral link (below). However, if you do use my link, then you will only have access to the forum you chose to sign up for. Whereas, if you go through the Postloop qualification process, you can have access not only to the forums I joined but you can view the complete list of forums and blogs and pick one or more. You may not want to join the forums I joined. There may be other topics that interest you. These two forums were of interest to me. One forum I joined to learn more about SEO. The other forum I joined because they have a wide range of general topics for you to provide your comments.  Do you already read blogs you like and leave comments?  This is the same thing only you can earn money for making a comment.

My Sign Up Referral Link for Postloop:

Once you are approved or qualified via Postloop, you can then subscribe to the forums like the ones mentioned in this post and start earning.  As stated earlier, you can publish posts and/or make comments at these forums. Most of the time I comment; especially at the SEOClerks forum since I am not really an expert webmaster. But just to give you an idea, at the end of this blog post is a list of some of my published posts at SuperiorThan that the owners approved.  Some are Versus.  Some are Debates or Discussions.  Just click on the appropriate tabs.

This was a brief introduction to my experience with social sites that pay; legitimate websites where you can make money online.  There are more sites out there (also mentioned at ForumCoin).  But these are the sites where I have found my experience to productive and profitable.  Hope this helps you.  Let me know if you have any questions about anything I've written.

Write at TreasurePen.com and You Can Earn A Red Cent! (Strikethrough!)

UPDATE June 21, 2017:

For reasons that I have been unable to determine this website disappeared.  So this post and other posts written at this blog tagged TreasurePen.com or TreasurePen, are either my content which I am glad to have saved and published here and/or my first impressions of this site which can now be completely ignored.

No biggie!  These days I'm hanging out at sites like ForumCoin.com

TreasurePen is an online writing platform that pays you to write short posts similar to how you share messages on Facebook or Twitter. All you need is a Google Adsense account. Yes it is a revenue-sharing platform just like all the other bazillion platforms out there. But all the platforms aren't so easy to write for. That's what makes Treasure Pen appealing.

My first post was published January 2014. Haven't been there quite 6 months, and also have not been extremely active because there are other new sites I am experimenting with as well for contrast and comparison. But this is a legitimate potential income stream for freelance writers and people who work at home.
