Don't Breathe! Parts of the world to avoid? That's Easy! Unless you live there!!

This post was first published in June 2017.  It is now July 2020 and the content is due for an UPDATE.  Information presented below the 3 highlighted asterisks (* * * ) was presented in 2017 and it was based on a map dated 2014.  I have been able to determine that the map has changed since 2014.  I also determined that something else of interest to all of mankind has happened since 2014/2017.

Here is UPDATE for this post.
In 2020, the World Health Organization officially announced that "we" are all in the midst of a COVID-19 pandemic.  "We"?  That means EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD!!  As horrific as that sounds, believe it or not, there's a bright side.

Because of the pandemic, people have been required to shelter in place, at home, to prevent the spread of the disease.  As a result?  The air is more breathable!  Who would have thunk it!

Check out these headlines.

Some scientists are saying these effects are short-term and won't last.  No, of course, they won't!  Because humans are not going to be locked down FOREVER!  (At least "We" hope not!)

Being the typical selfish arrogant ignorant American, I checked the list of places with the worst and the best air quality. USA was not on either list. However, Bloomberg did say that the air quality in New York is the best it's ever been in 50 years. I don't know how to interpret that statement. I'm just glad I don't live in New York!

I New York.  I just don't want to live there. 😊

Do you sometimes wonder if earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters are God's way of cleaning the environment?  It's not as if we can load planet earth into a washing machine.

NOTE:  I am not a scientist and I don't track air quality.  If you see anything in this post that warrants correction and/or updating, feel free to call me out. PLEASE!!

Movie Review: Flame of Stamboul (1951) (Reblog)

An alternative title for this blog post could be:  "Welcome to the World of Double Oh!"  Check out Double O Section, a blog for reviews of all things espionage like this 1951 movie.

"After the defeat of Germany at the end of WWII (and the end of the Forties spy classics that went with it) and before James Bond came along, most spy movies were simply crime movies with exotic settings. But as the Cold War warmed up, a few managed to subtly buck the trend in the 1950s, in some ways presaging the direction the genre would go in the Sixties, following 007's explosive cinematic debut. Columbia’s B-programmer Flame of Stamboul, directed by Ray Nazarro and starring the future governor of Hawaii Richard Denning, is surprisingly such a film. ..."

This blog's first post is dated October 2006 and is titled simply "List"; "a Top (double-oh) Seven list of people in the world of fictional spies to keep an eye on."  Interesting list.

As of 2023, it appears this amazing blogger is no longer publishing posts. But the content is still online for reading.  Sharing the link below to the latest post.  Posts date back to 2006.

Meet Little Miss HISTORY – She’ll Be Your Tour Guide!

Spotlight on Barbara Ann Mojica, creator of Little Miss HISTORY.

Retired educator and historian Barbara Ann Mojica is using her KSAs (knowledge, skills, and abilities) to write history/travel books for children.

Published a series of picture books, nonfiction, the main character is a young traveler named Little Miss HISTORY, an aspiring park ranger eager to take you to famous landmarks and tell you all about them! Through her, Ms.Mojica takes readers on guided tours to well-known sites in the United States. So far LMH has visited:
  • Mount Rushmore,
  • the Statue of Liberty,
  • Sequoia National Park, and
  • Ford’s Theater.

Ms. Mojica has been recognized by BRAGMedallion.com, an organization that endeavors to recognize and promote the works of new and talented self-published authors:

Little Miss History Travels to MOUNT RUSHMORE is the first in a new series of children’s nonfiction books featuring a funny character named Little Miss History who takes you on a journey to visit historic places. This book is appropriate for middle-grade classrooms, libraries, and homes. Ms. Mojica is an historian, parent, grandparent and retired educator-driven by a genuine motivation to help make learning history a fun experience for children. In the words of one reviewer…”I wish we had books like this when I was in school.”

Since her last trip to Mount Rushmore, Little Miss HISTORY has journeyed more than 1700 miles over land, sea and air to reach her second destination, The Statue of Liberty. This national treasure stands proudly in New York Harbor welcoming all people to the land of freedom and opportunity. In this second book of the series, Little Miss HISTORY will help you discover who thought of the statue in the first place, the values she symbolizes, the architects and engineers who built Lady Liberty, and the little known individuals who contributed their pennies to make her debut in New York’s harbor possible. You will learn about why she remains a promise and symbol of the hopes and aspirations of many people around the world and not just to immigrants coming to America. Come now and follow Little Miss HISTORY as she enlightens you about The Statue of Liberty!

Are you ready for another thrilling adventure? The Little Miss HISTORY series is a nonfiction picture book, history/travel series written with the intention of making learning fun for children and adults alike. In the third book of this series, this wannabe Park Ranger with pigtails and hiking boots three sizes too big skydives into SEQUOIA National Park. She will take you on a journey back in time to meet those who first settled in this wilderness. Through breathtaking illustrations and photographs, the reader will hike, horseback ride, and kayak through the park to view its wonders. Adventurers will encounter waterfalls, granite cliffs, giant trees, and geologic exhibits on their journey. More than three hundred species of wildlife abound in the park. Don’t be surprised if you meet a cinnamon bear or a mountain lion! Little Miss will explain the differences between sequoia trees and redwood trees, how they grow, and why they are important. Discover why the General Grant tree is called a “living memorial.” Despite the natural beauty of this park, readers will discover a deadly danger lurking within.

We are approaching the 150th Anniversary of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln in Ford’s Theater, April 15, 1865, Washington, D.C. In her fourth adventure, Little Miss HISTORY pulls up her reins at its doors to visit a place that has witnessed the best and worst of times. Its walls have heard laughter and tears. This nonfiction picture book is illustrated in somber tones that convey the mood of the tragic events that unfolded there. Little Miss HISTORY keeps spirits up by wearing a top hat like Lincoln and a Roman toga while acting in the theater, but she is well-aware that she is visiting a darker part of America’s history. Learn why many believed the building was cursed. Gaze at the Derringer pistol that fired the fatal shot. Study the boot that John Wilkes Booth wore while injuring his leg during his attempt to escape. See the bed where President Lincoln died. Crane your neck up to stare at the Tower of Books written about Abraham Lincoln in the Center for Education and Leadership. Let Little Miss HISTORY be your guide to learning how Ford’s Theater has become a living memorial to Abraham Lincoln and to the resilience of a country made whole once more.

Sometimes I Babble - Can't You Tell?

Sometimes I babble.  But people referred to the Apostle Paul as a babbler too.  The words below in black are my statements.  The blue letters are found in the Bible.

Personification of knowledge (Greek Επιστημη, ...
Personification of knowledge (Greek Επιστημη, Episteme) in Celsus Library in Ephesus, Turkey. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

  • Ignorance was always a choice. (“… fools hate knowledge”)

  • Information was always currency. (“Buy the truth and sell it not.”)

  • Knowledge is freely offered and there for the taking or … accepting. (“Choose knowledge rather than choice gold.”)

  • Wisdom when rightly applied is the key to not wasting your life way. (“Teach us to number our days.”)

- Sometimes I babble.

- Sometimes I say things that are verifiable truths.

Am I babbling?

Work From Home: Useful Advice for Affiliate Marketers

Do you work from home? Do you need help to consistently make money online from your activities?  My answer to both questions is YES!  I've been at this since 2007.  I have made money from my online work.  Only recently (i.e. within the past 2 or 3 years) have my earnings become consistent.  (Although the amounts are still not enough to pay the rent; I can buy groceries.)

Currently, this is what I do daily to earn money, working at home:

1) Watching Hideout TV videos
2) Performing small tasks at several crypto faucets
3) Chatting at social sites that pay like Forum Coin, Noise.Cash, etc.
4) Affiliate marketing (mainly posting links via social media)
5) Maintaining monetized blogs and writing articles at sites that have a monetary rewards incentive

I just started micro-investing (buying stocks, ETFs. etc.) and crypto trading.  It will become Number 6 when I start making money.  I said "when", not "IF". ☺

I continue to read countless articles and blog posts written by others who insist there is A WAY to become financially independent by making money online.  Maybe so.  But I have not found it.  What I have found is that what works for one person may not necessarily work for me.  I also found that you have to be persistent in order to reach your financial goals AND you must keep up with the changes and adapt when needed.  When they introduced Ad Blockers in Browsers, that was a game changer for people like me who wanted to make money online.  Most of the money I earned came from advertising revenues.

Fortunately, friends introduced me to cryptocurrency.  There are ways to earn crypto and while the website you go to might rely on revenues from advertising, the activities you perform at that site to earn crypto coins is not impacted.  Once you earn cryptocurrency, you can deposit coins into a trading account to start investing and growing your portfolio.

Friends also introduced me to micro-investing.  I'm a newbie right now, but I have confidence I can make this project work!

The preceding paragraphs were background/introduction to direct you to an article I read by Caroline Carr, a fellow writer at Medium.com. Five Things You Didn’t Know About making $75 Every Day.  (unpublished). It's an excellent article but I'm going to repeat myself.  What works for one person might not work for you.

♦  For affiliate marketing, she recommends The Big Three: Warrior+, JVZoo and Clickbank.  The first 2, I've never heard of; but my experience with Clickbank has produced ZERO results.  Nevertheless, I would not discourage anyone from giving any of these three a try.  After all, they worked for Ms.Carr.

WHAT IS WORKING FOR ME?  I signed up to become an authorized affiliate via several programs.  The program that has produced the best results is Sovrn Commerce (formerly VigLink).  They have various marketing tools.  But the tool that works well for me is the Chrome browser extension.  It allows you to create and share monetized links of over 70,000 merchants.  Think about this.  You're constantly browsing anyway.  Suppose you land on a merchant's website that has products or services you would like to market.  Click the icon for the browser extension and it will tell if that link can be monetized and how much you can make if someone clicks the link and visits the website.  Is that super easy or what?  You can share the affiliate link you created anywhere that it is allowed.  My monthly earnings are automatically sent directly to my PayPal account.  I did not make $75 a day.  But I do earn regularly from my affiliate marketing efforts.  You can do a general search for reviews of VigLink.  Some people like it.  Some people don't.  I LIKE IT!!  It's working for me!

♦  Ms. Carr also suggests using Quora for your affiliate marketing purposes.  Quora is recommended for traffic if you do not have a blog, a website, or a YouTube channel.  I created an account with site when it first started.  It's a Q&A site.  It was not really created FOR affiliate marketers.  In fact, during the beginning years when the community was growing, I tried to share my affiliate links and was given a warning that such activity would not be allowed and that my account would be deleted.  Quora was launched in 2009.  It's 2022.  I guess they have changed the rules. (???)

WHAT IS WORKING FOR ME?  There are others who agree with Ms. Carr's method (see link below).  As for me?  Even if the rules have changed, Quota is not a site that I would choose to share my affiliate links.  Ms. Carr suggests you write responses to various questions and insert your link into the content.  I get more results when I use social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest; and writing a brief description of the product or service is all that is needed.  I'm a KISS type of marketer.  (KISS = Keep It Short and Simple.)

CONCLUSION: I am not saying that I will NEVER try the methods used by Ms. Carr. Never say Never. But for the present, I am going to use the online activities that are producing results and employ more of my efforts toward cryptocurrency trading and micro-investing.

Ms.Carr says if you use her methods you can make $75 a day with affiliate marketing.  The methods I use are NOT generating $75 per day; more like $75 a month.  However, earnings from my affiliate marketing efforts fluctuate and I have noticed that earnings increase significantly during the holiday months of the year (October through December).

DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU! ☺

The Black Girl in Search of God and Some Lesser Tales (Guest Post)

Book Review: The Black Girl in Search of God and Some Lesser Tales by Bernard Shaw

The title piece in this anthology is a parable on the nature of religious belief. When first published in 1932 it caused quite a stir and I wondered whether the intervening 75 years might have rendered it something less of a shocker. I found that, apart from one violation of current political correctness and a few inevitable stylistic issues, the message had lost none of its poignancy and perhaps little of its ability to shock.

"The Black Girl in Search of God" is not a novel or a novella. It is not really a short story either. I choose to describe it as a parable because others have, but equally, it could be classed alongside Plato's symposium as a vehicle for examining a philosophical idea. It's not a discourse, but it could be a meditation, albeit a rather energetic one. The idea in question, of course, is the nature of religious belief.

The Black Girl of the title is only cast as such, I think, to provide Bernard Shaw, the author, with a literary vehicle to convey his otherwise naïve questions about Christianity. To this end, The Black Girl is presented as a "noble savage", and thus a tabula rasa. It is here - and only here - that Shaw violates current correctness. The character could have been cast as a child, but then she could not have threatened to wield her knobkerrie, her weapon, and nor could she have been portrayed as bringing no tradition of her own. We must accept, therefore, that there remains a functionality about the role of this character. She does not represent anything, except her ability to ask the questions she is required to ask.

The Black Girl has been converted to Christianity by a young British woman who has taken delight in amorously jilting a series of vicars. She then becomes a missionary, despite her clearly thin grasp of the subject matter. She is, perhaps, an allegory of colonial expansion. She goes abroad to teach others despite not having achieved fulfillment or knowledge in her own life. It might be important that the teacher and the taught are both women.

When her convert starts asking questions, fundamental questions that the missionary herself has never heard asked, never mind answered, she reverts to invention, not scholarship. Shaw's intention is clear. She invents myth to mystify myth. And this cloak satisfies the curiosity of the average Christian, but not The Black Girl, who thus goes off in search of God.

And, guided by snakes, she finds Him. And not just once, because there is more than one God in the Bible she carries. There is the God of Wrath, who demands the sacrifice of her child. When she cannot comply, He demands she find her father so he can sacrifice her. A good part of the Bible thus disappears from her new-found faith.

She meets an apparent God of Love, but he laughs at Job for being so naively and blindly devout. More of her book blows away.

She meets prophets who, one by one, deliver their different messages, most of which conflict and communicate individual political positions or bigotry rather than personal revelation.

On the way, she belittles Imperial power and male domination. She learns that most "civilized" countries have given up on God and hears a plea that people like her should not be taught things that the mother country no longer believes.

Scientists offer her equally conflicting opinions. They are careful only to describe, never to conclude or interpret. In a way, they are just modern prophets, each with their own interested positions.

There is an amazing episode where a mathematician implores her to consider complex numbers, the square root of minus x, which The Black Girl hears as Myna sex or perhaps its homophone minor sex, and is clearly a reference to feminism. Along with economic power and male dominance, The Black Girl sees guns as the highest achievement of white society. This anticipates the description of colonialism's trinity in Ngugi's Petals of Blood.

Then, in a strange section, an Arab discusses belief with a conjuror. These appear to be a pair of major prophets in thin disguise. But their discussions merely confuse the girl and their words skirt her questions.

And so she meets an Irishman, marries and settles down. She devotes herself to him, their coffee-colored children and the fruits of their garden. Note that she does not devote herself to herself. She projects out, does not analyze within. And in this utterly humanist universe she finds not only personal happiness, but also fulfillment and, with that, answers to her own metaphysical questions that religion per se could not even address.

And so, as the parable closes, we ponder whether the Irishman she marries is Shaw, and whether The Black Girl is the questioning, non-racist, non-sexist, socialist and humanist vision of the future he has personally espoused.

And as for the Lesser Tales, they are generally lesser. Don Giovanni explaining himself was fun and the Death of an Old Revolutionary Hero was prescient of the role of the Socialist Workers' Party adopted in maintaining Margaret Thatcher in power in the 1980s. A great, historical and fundamentally contemporary read.

Entertainment: Celebrities: In Memory of: Doris Day (1922 - 2019)

Must say good-bye to "America's girl next door" and Hollywood legend, Doris Day.  She had a major influence on my childhood development.  She charmed me.  That was her appeal.  I think she charmed everyone; publicly and privately.  I loved all of her movies.  No really.  There is not one movie she starred in that I did not like.

For me, the most memorable movie was the one where she sang "Que sera, sera" and she had to land that airplane: The Man Who Knew Too Much.  It was a departure from her usually light-hearted comedy roles.  That movie was very serious and she played her part quite convincingly.  I have wonderful memories of this fine actress.

She wasn't included in My Top 10 List of Iconic Female Celebrities' even though she suits the definition for "iconic". It's because she deserves a spotlight all her own.

Witches vs Secret Societies: Threat or Real Threat?

In Judaism, during Bible times, the practice of witchcraft was forbidden. Not just witches, but sorcerers, soothsayers, fortune-tellers (psychics), etc. Those who engaged in such activities were counted as nothing more than deceivers with evil intent. The practitioners claimed that they had supernatural powers and some sort of direct connection to the gods or God, which they did not have. Because they dared to say that they could communicate as a medium or intercessor and could convey messages to and from the Divine, knowing full well that they had no such powers or capabilities, how could their intentions have been pure and honest? There was no doubt that their aim or purpose was to defraud another person or do even worse than that. For this reason, the punishment for practicing witchcraft was severe. (That's my understanding.)

During the first century, converts to Christianity, openly and publicly renounced the practices of witchcraft, sorcery, etc. - referred to as "curious arts" - and professed that their faith was the only power needed to overcome evil and to commune with the Creator.

Religions of the World: What Do Muslims Believe About Angels?

Many of us in Western civilizations have somewhat of a familiarity with what the Bible teaches about angels, such as the scene depicted in the image below of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.  But what do Muslims believe?

“Belief in angels is one of the six articles of faith in Islam, and all Muslims must accept their existence. The Qur’an emphasizes this in the following verse: 'The Messenger believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and so do the believers. All believe in Allah, His Angels, His Books and His Messengers.' (Qur’an 2:285). Although angels are part of the unseen and therefore mysterious, the Qur’an and hadith offer some insight into the creation of angels, their attributes, and their purpose."  (Quote Source: via What Do Muslims Believe About Angels? | suite.io)

Best Car to Buy For Your Large Family

Chevrolet is an American automobile manufacturing corporation that has been in business since 1911.  I am so old that I can remember the advertisement that said “See the USA in your Chevrolet.”  Chevrolet is pronounced sheh·vruh·lay. Lay rhymes with USA. It was a catchy line.

At one time, their major competitor was Ford. But times have changed and not only must Chevrolet compete with US car manufacturers but there are also non-US car manufacturing companies who fight for the attention of American consumers as well.  Based on my experience, I would say that even after all of these years Chevrolet still builds great cars!  They build small cars, sedans, trucks, mid-size cars, sports cars (like the Corvette), and most recently they started building all-electric vehicles.

My favorite Chevy car is the Suburban. It is a large family SUV (sports utility vehicle) and if you have a large family and you drive to your vacation destinations, this car (or truck) is perfect!

I owned a Suburban for about 10 years. Sadly one of my teenage kids took it out for a drive, got in an accident and the family care was totally checked. However, my child made it out without a scratch.

During the time period when I owned the Suburban, I rarely had to make substantial car repairs. The regular car maintenance kept it going. I drove the car from Texas to Washington, D.C., and back again. It is very reliable transportation.

If you are looking to buy a large family SUV, I recommend the Chevrolet Suburban.

"In 1951, Chevrolet signed a deal to sponsor The Dinah Shore Show on NBC, during the height of her career as one of America’s mos

t popular singers and television personalities. At the end of each show, the charming, sultry-voiced Shore serenaded her audience with “See the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet” from the driver’s seat of a sleek, brand new Chevy."  (Source)

Music Entertainment: Bob Marley - Rastaman Trivia

Bob Marley is a personality that many people like to write about, including yours truly. There are many things about his lifestyle I did not agree with, but there are lots of things about his music that I like, such as the fact that some, if not most of his song lyrics were based on scriptures.

Bob Marley (1945 - 1981) was a Jamaican singer, songwriter, guitarist, and activist who was a pioneer of reggae music. His music blended elements of ska, rocksteady, and reggae with American soul harmonies, and he became known for his distinctive vocal style and spiritual lyrics. Marley's music increased the visibility of Jamaican music around the world, making him the first international superstar from the Third World and selling more than 20 million records. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and won a Grammy Award.

Marley was born Robert Nesta Marley on February 6, 1945 in Nine Miles, St. Ann, Jamaica and died on May 11, 1981 in Miami, Florida at the age of 36 from acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM). He became a Rastafarian icon and a symbol of peace and unity. In 1957, he moved to Kingston with his mother and formed the group the Wailers with Neville (Bunny Wailer) Livingston, Peter Tosh, Beverley Kelso, and Junior Braithwaite.

Jesus Taught About the Kingdom of Heaven Through Parables

John the Baptist preached that the Kingdom was "at hand" or close (Matthew 3:2).

Jesus proclaimed that the Kingdom was upon us.
  • (Matthew 12:28)  "But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you."

The Parables, in His Own Words is one of the ways Jesus taught people about the Kingdom of Heaven. These are the parables that appear only in the gospel of Matthew, and they are all about the Kingdom of Heaven.
  • The Wheat and the Tares (13:24-30)
  • The Hidden Treasure (13:44)
  • The Pearl of the Great Price (13:45-46)
  • The Dragnet (13:47-50)
  • The Unforgiving Servant (18:21-35)
  • The Workers in the Vineyard (20:1-16)
  • The Two Sons (21:28-32)
  • The Wedding Feast (22:1-14)
  • The Wise and Foolish Virgins (25:1-13)
  • The Talents (25:14-30)

The Wheat and the Tares (13:24-30)
  • When the wheat and tares grow they look the same, but when they are fully grown they look completely different. Some people are in the church and look like other Christians, but Jesus knows the difference and when judgment day comes Jesus will separate the hypocrites from the Christians. The tares that get burned represent the people who go to Hell and the wheat represents the people who go to Heaven.

The Hidden Treasure (13:44)
  • When the man finds the treasure he finds it and the hides it in a field. Then he goes and sells everything he has and buys a field. When he sells everything he has that represents giving up everything you have just to get into Heaven.

The Pearl of the Great Price (13:45-46)
  • This parable has the same idea as the parable about the hidden treasure. When he sells everything he has that represents giving up everything you have just to get into Heaven.

The Dragnet (13:47-50)
  • The good were put into the vessel and the bad were thrown away. When judgment day comes the Angels will separate the evil from the good and the evil will be thrown into a furnace of fire where there will be whining and gnashing of the teeth.

The Unforgiving Servant (18:21-35)
  • Just like the servant who was thrown into prison you will be treated the same way if you do not forgive your brother from the heart.

The Workers in the Vineyard (20:1-16)
  • The people who are put on front by other people should humble themselves. They will be the last ones. The people who are humble will be first.

The Two Sons (21:28-32)
  • We are all sinners. Some of us are sorry for our sins and repent. Some of us choose to live a life of sin. The two sons show the different attitudes. Those who repent will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Wedding Feast (22:1-14)
  • Many people were invited to go to the wedding, but they didn’t want to come. When the man came into the wedding hall he didn’t have a wedding garment meaning he was invited but did not want to wear the right clothing. The Master told his servants tie his hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. Everyone is called to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. But we must all enter the same way. Some people want to be saved but only on their own terms.

The Wise and Foolish Virgins (25:1-13)
  • The wise virgins were ready to go to the wedding, but the foolish virgins were not. Be ready for when Jesus Christ comes.

The Talents (25:14-30)
  • The Master made the servants who gained more talents and were faithful over a few things rulers of many things. The servant who hid his talent had it taken away and he was cast into outer darkness. Use your talents. The people who use their talents bear good fruit and the people who don’t do not bear good fruit.
