Each month, this site features their top selling artists.  This post links to the notification received via eMail for the best artists for February 2014.

Top 10 Artists in February | ArtFinder.com

I receive notifications via eMail.  Of the Top Ten, Helen Wells is the artist I fancy.  The image below is called Happy.  Isn’t it lovely?  It has been added to my Pinterest board collection of ARTISTS I FANCY.  To date, my board has over 100 pins.  I’m taking my time finding the artwork.  What’s the rush?  It’s like a pleasant eternal afternoon spent walking around an art museum.  My first visit to our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. and to New York, New York, I made it my mission to visit art museums or galleries.  These days, I don’t get out much.  But via the Internet, I let my imagination take me wherever.

ArtFinder.com fancies their site as an “affordable art marketplace”, a great place for shopping, where you can buy direct from independent artists and galleries.  To date they boast over 2000 artists from 60 countries.

UPDATE:  Reported on this marvelous art find in 2014.  Fast forward to 2017.  Found another captivating artist.  Gordon Bruce, based in the UK.  Shared info about him at my other blog "Joie de Vivre Magazine".  His artwork is also available at Zazzle.  (See below.)  Enjoy!

Ever Thought About How Will You Survive?

Questions asked at a forum called “My Survival Forum”. These were my answers. Honing your survival skills? Perhaps this will give you something to think about.

  • I was watching a documentary on our public TV station and did notice that the women were wiping the plates with dirt. They were in the desert. I was thinking I would use leaves from a tree. But of course, if I'm in the desert then … (O.o) (???) So? Do you not think using leaves from a tree is a good way to clean dirty plates?

  • My late mother believed in cerasee.  It grew in the backyard of my childhood home. It seemed she believed you could take it for everything. She always brewed it like a tea and drank it. She got better. My theory is that it tastes so awful, whatever it was inside of her that was causing the ailment, ran away! I was sure she made it up because she didn't like to go to doctors and take us to doctors. Only to grow up and find that people from the islands have always used cerasee. • No, I have never used tea tree oil because I just recently learned about it. A visit to a website maintained by a “Dr. Axe” provides details on what this natural remedy can do. Tea Tree Oil : Uses and Benefits | draxe.com

  • Two pots for cooking meals is OK. But I'm all for one-pot meals. I especially like soups and stews because they are hearty and filling. Also, throwing a soup party on a cold winter's night is fun!!

  • Not a follower of Stephen Hawking. But I'll try to be objective about his predictions. Easy for him to say. He won't be here in a thousand years so nobody will yell at him for being wrong! The chances for the world to end in a thousand years, a thousand centuries, a thousand millennia or a thousand nanoseconds are all equally not predictable.

Advantages of Collections on Google Plus (UPDATE: G+ Shut Down April 2019)

Well! It was fun while it lasted. ANNOUNCEMENT: On April 2, 2019, Google shut down the consumer (personal) version of Google+.
***
Are you a Google Plusser? Why not? Didn't create an account because there were predictions that Google management was considering kicking the network to the curb? Yes.  There was a buzz about that.

Several years back when Google Plus social media network was still in test mode, I received an invitation via eMail to participate in the project. When the decision was made to open to the public, I was already on board and they even gave me a custom URL for my profile.  My G+ experience has been very pleasant, although there are probably loads of features I have not learned how to use.

One of the features I have learned to use is the Collections.

Google Plus Collections is Google's answer to Pinterest users. Pinterest boards are for you to arrange your interests in an orderly fashion.  G+ Collections help you arrange your G+ posts in an orderly manner.  Why would you need to do that?  Ever try to search for one of your posts or links that you shared into the stream from a few years back?

All my G-Plus activity goes back several years. Tried going to my profile posts stream and scrolling down. That didn't work. If you scroll down your profile page looking for old posts you will discover that the post stream only goes back so far. You say to yourself: “How can this be? Have my posts disappeared?” Of course not! This is Google we're talking about! If Facebook can share your memories with you from years gone by, then there had better be a way to search for and find your old Google Plus posts.

Found a way to do that. It wasn't exactly simple. But it was doable. It is not easy to explain the process, so I'll direct you to the post where I found the information which I saved for future reference in my G+ Collections created for my business page called Tips and Advice for Business (Work-at-Home, etc.):

So how does this all tie together? If you find your old Google Plus activity and move it to your Collections activity, for your profile or your business page, then later you can just go there and retrieve your old posts. As a test, moved an old post from 2012 to a collection on my profile. View here.

So! You can probably conclude that although G+ Collections are good for organizing your Plus activity, in my opinion, the primary advantage of maintaining Collections on Google Plus is that you can retrieve your activity history.

Side Note:
  • All of my G+ Collections are set to Public, so you if you want to look at how my collections are organized, you can view the content even if you are not a member of the network. My Writings, My Work, My World, My Way is my collection which appears on my profile.  (In comparison, you have to have an account with Pinterest to view my various pinboards.  My profile shows 57 boards which include group boards.  Home Business Works on Pinterest.)

War Movie Classics: The Dirty Dozen

Some say the movie “Inglorious Basterds” was inspired by "The Dirty Dozen". This classic starred some of my favorite actors: Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Telly Savalas and Jim Brown, to name a few.  Bad guys turned Patriots?  You really wanted these "dirty" guys to survive.

Native American Female Artist: Betty Albert

It is wonderful to learn about your background and ancestry, but we must always remind ourselves that none of us would have a heritage were it not for our mothers.

Two selected pieces below are the stunning artwork of Betty "Wabinmeguil" Albert-Lincez, who was adopted by French Canadians but came to learn that she was Cree.  She still resides in Canada and is listed among the Canadian Women of Achievement.  Her artwork captures the Native American journey.  In my mind, these posters honor the women of the Indian nations.

FYI.  She's on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/Wabimeguil/

United States Map in Crayon Colors

Maps are like sad songs. They say so much.

I kind of like the map below because of its crayon-brights blocks of color!

The product description says:

Crayon-bright blocks of color make the “United States Map” especially easy to read – and make a bold style statement at the same time. State names and borders are clearly marked, as well as international borders, state capitals, secondary cities, and an inset map of Alaska and Hawaii. The map is a fun, appealing learning tool for kids, and an eye-catching artwork for adults.

It sure caught my eye! Instead of viewing my beloved country in intensities of hot and cold, or red or blue, I rather like seeing it as a rainbow! South Africa is called a Rainbow Nation. I like the concept.

Science and Education: Genome Brings Ancient Girl to Life

Old news (2012).  But still interesting.  In a stunning technical feat, an international team of scientists has sequenced the genome of an archaic Siberian girl 31 times over, using a new method that amplifies single strands of DNA. The sequencing is so complete that researchers have as sharp a picture of this ancient genome as they would of a living person's, revealing, for example, that the girl had brown eyes, hair, and skin. . . .
