35th POTUS, John F. Kennedy (1961 – 1963) - What do I recall?
The grown folks around me sure thought he was a good POTUS. Didn't know much but saw no reason to disagree with them. Have always believed that this man would have been one of the best presidents. But
we will never know as he was cut down by an assassin's bullet or
bullets. To this day, the identity of his murderer or murderers have
never been confirmed. But the day he was shot is etched in my memory
forever. People – the adults, that is, in my neighborhood were showing a
range of emotions: sorrow, shock, despair, anger, dread. My older
sister made a scrapbook of newspaper clippings – everything she could
find about JFK. Sadly, don't know what happened to it. Wish I had kept
it. Its historical value would have been priceless.
Kennedy's assassination completely changed my understanding of this thing called “politics” in America, and in the world. Politics is dangerous!
Not only dangerous but confusing. To want to get rid of a bad leader –
like a ruthless dictator or a really cruel monarch - that's
understandable. Not saying that's the right thing to do. But to kill a
good leader? That is so clearly and obviously wrong. WHY?? Does this
mean the good really do die young?? (O.o)
Thoughts from a child's heart. ♥
Next two POTUS Dots: Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon

American Presidents During My Lifetime: Dwight D. Eisenhower
It's 2016. Another election year in the United States of America.
Thought this might be a good time to look back. For those who may be
unfamiliar with the process, American presidents are voted in by the
people. Although if you believe in the gospel according to Senator
Bernie Sanders, that's a myth. Big Money runs this country. It runs
the campaign process. It runs the Congress. This is not America. This
is the Roman Empire.
But let's just say - for purposes of my posts - the ideal democracy does exist and the real power does rest with the GAP (general American public) and the people do elect their leaders in America. Here's how it works. Leaders are elected. They get to serve for no more than two terms, 4 years each, 8 years top. Then they leave and they can't come back! Most citizens, like me, are OK with this arrangement. Additionally, most citizens, like me, will probably live through about 8 to 10 presidents in their lifetime.
This is my intro to a series of posts that will be published where I take a look back at the presidential DOTS on my timeline. Won't be drawing from what is written about these fearless leaders in the history books. Just going to try to see what can be drawn from my memory.
* * *
Beginning with the 34th POTUS, Dwight D. Eisenhower, who served from 1953 to 1961. You could say my DOT is on his timeline since, my birth occurred during his time of service, close to the end of the year 1955.
Only thing in my memory about this administration was that his daughter got married. No. That's not a political act. It's not politics at all. But … back in my time, children were taught not to speak when grown folks were talking and only thing I can recall grown folks talking about was the fact that his daughter was getting married.
Guess that's an indicator that times during 1953 to 1961 weren't too too bad. (???)
It's a guess from a person who was between the ages of: Newborn to 6 years. (O.o)
That's it! Not much extracted. Next post? Next POTUS DOT? John F. Kennedy

You Think You Know All About Witches | earthpages.ca (Reblog)
A very informative post: Witch. Two ideas (or facts, if you prefer) presented that were news to me!
(1) Witches are born witches. Sorcerers get to apply for the job later on in life.
(2) Witch doctors were called witch doctors because people called on them to cure an illness believed to have been caused by a witch.

What is a Universal Language of Light?
Sharing a link to an article written by a fellow freelance writer.
(NOTE: Link to an archived copy. The article was unpublished.)
This is my first time learning, hearing or reading about a “Universal Language of Light”. The research results do make you wonder. However, I am convinced that God invented all human languages because I believe the biblical account of the tower of Babel. If Genesis 11 is true, then any human language is a “language of The Light”.

Do You Dare Go Dowsing for Graves?
Gravestones are fascinating historical markers. But not all graves are marked. The history of those buried is lost. Or not!
“Some people use the term “dowsing” while others use “divining” or “witching”. All three terms mean the same thing.” Some say dowsing is pseudoscience and does not work. Nevertheless people earnestly dowse for graves in certain areas where bodies are believed to be, but the burial spot or final resting place has become lost because they are unmarked. Volunteers for history societies often dowse for graves; and there are others who have their reasons. Very interesting.+++

The History of Astrology and the Gifts of the Magi
Some people celebrate the Adoration of the Magi every year on January 6. Read an interesting article about the history of astrology and how it was applied in the
beginning. (Reference: Good Heavens! Oldest-Known Astrologer's Board Discovered | Live Science)
Per Wikipedia "Astrology is a pseudoscience that claims to divine information about human affairs and terrestrial events by studying the movements and relative positions of celestial objects."
The article goes on to state that people began to say they could apply astrology in human affairs for success.

It's an integral part of the most beautiful story ever told.
Christmas Tradition: The Gifts of the Magi
Per Wikipedia "Astrology is a pseudoscience that claims to divine information about human affairs and terrestrial events by studying the movements and relative positions of celestial objects."
- I believe the initial use of the real science of astrology (as opposed to pseudoscience), "in the beginning", i.e. used to predict the weather for agriculture purposes, natural disasters, etc., is the correct use or application of astrology.
The article goes on to state that people began to say they could apply astrology in human affairs for success.
- I believe that "beginning" (of when people started saying how astrology could be applied) could possibly be the beginning of when scam and con artists began to leave their indelible marks on the history of mankind, i.e. deceivers started telling people they could predict their future success by the stars and that deception has continued to this day (psychic readings, hotlines, etc.).
- I believe there is only one exception where, not the stars, but a single star, was applied to human affairs for salvation and its appearance lent itself to the prediction of the rise (success) and fall (failure) of many.

The visit of the Magi may be a part of
the so-called Christmas tradition but more importantly … it's a
true story.
It's an integral part of the most beautiful story ever told.
Christmas Tradition: The Gifts of the Magi
Every year during the month of December, many people direct their minds to the story about the birth of Jesus, revered by faithful Christians as the Savior of the world. Although the nativity scene always shows the three wise men (also called the three kings) adoring a newborn baby and bearing gifts, the biblical account indicates that their visitation did not occur on the night that Mary gave birth.

Character Study: Bible Women | Mary: Full of Grace
MARY
The mother of Jesus. No one disputes this.
Almost everyone in a predominantly
Christian society knows the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus. When
Mary is introduced in the Christian scriptures, she is living in
Nazareth in Galilee and she is betrothed to be married to a man named
Joseph, who discovers that she is pregnant. Knowing that child could not
possibly be his child, Joseph agonizes over what to do about Mary.
Under Jewish law, he has two options. Option 1: Shame Mary publicly and have her stoned for infidelity. Option 2: Put Mary away quietly. The scriptures state that an angel came to Joseph in a dream and told him not to fear taking Mary as his wife. She had committed no sin and the child that she was carrying was the result of a miracle and the
fulfillment of a prophecy that “a virgin would conceive and bring forth a son who would be named Emmanuel, meaning ‘God with us’.”
Mary and Jesus - Image Credit: Paint According To The Number Set Paint Diy Children and Adult Oil Painting, Virgin Mary Jesus
Some non-Christian sources say that Jesus was a bastard, an illegitimate child, the result of an unlawful union between Mary and someone other than her lawful husband. There is an ongoing debate as to whether the Qu’ran (Koran) states that Mary was a virgin who conceived and gave birth to Jesus, having never had sexual contact in any way with any man OR whether she was a virgin at the time the angel visited her and told her she would have a child.
Whether or not Christian and non-Christian sources agree Mary is the 5th woman mentioned by Matthew in the lineage of Jesus Christ.

Society and Culture: The Olympics is Proof of Peace in Diversity
Doves have come to be known as a recognized universal symbol for peace in many cultures.
The releasing of doves was done first at the 1896 Olympics held in Athens, Greece.
It was only fitting that the 100th Anniversary of this tradition be highlighted at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, GA, USA. Atlanta, as most students of American history know, was the Confederate Center in Georgia where several engagements of the Civil War were fought. But that was the 60s (1861-65).
One decade, we’re fighting like cats and dogs with each other, hooping and hollering about secession; and just 30 years later we are off to Greece, and the United States, emphasis on the word “united” was representing!
Because, in the end, all that we all really do want is … world peace.

Kings of France Named Louis Per BBC Comedy (?)
Do you enjoy European history and British comedy TV shows? My spouse introduced me to BBC programs back in the 70s. Fawlty Towers was one of my favorites.
Unfortunately, there is one show that I vaguely recall but can't remember the name or the names of any of the people in it, so it's hard for me to search for it. Perhaps if I tell what I can remember, somebody out there in cyberspace will help me fill in the blank.
So in this episode, there was a guy who impersonating the king of France. “A” king of France. The king's name was Louis. That part was clear. The confusion was over the monarch's number. So the guy who was supposed to be king – every time somebody left the room after speaking with him and another person would come in to talk to him, he would forget which number “Louis” he was. One time, he's Louis the 14th. Next time he's the 16th. The 10th? The 12th? He didn't know!
It was hilarious! But didn't quite fully appreciate the humor, not being familiar with the history of France. Did a little research to figure out just how many kings of France were named Louis. There were eighteen (18). Eighteen kings of France ruled from the 7th century to the 18th century. Napoleon Bonaparte proclaimed himself Emperor of France after Louis 16th got his head chopped off. Louis XVII died in prison. Louis XVIII ruled as a constitutional monarch. (If there's a student of French history who knows different, feel free to correct me.)
Can anybody name of the BBC TV show?

Witchcraft and Witch Hunting : Past and Present
There was a dark period in the history of mankind when witch-hunting was the order of the day. It began with official approval from Pope Innocent VII in 1484 and continued until around the 17th century when it reached its climax in England, Scotland, and America. That was the past.
This is the present. It’s the 21st century. We’re all much more civilized and intelligent than those people were back then. Aren’t we? (O.o) Nobody is going to whip us up into frenzied mania and have us pointing a finger of accusation at someone, torturing a confession out of them, and still putting them to death for being a witch!
The past is in the past. Fortunately, my only exposure to witches and witchcraft was and is wearing a costume on Halloween or watching the Wizard of Oz. These days, most people like me limit themselves to adding collectibles like the reproductions pictured below of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North to their wish list; or sitting at home and watching The Wizard of Oz on DVD or Amazon Instant Video. Can you believe it has been 75 years? The movie was released in 1939. Listening to Judy Garland sing “Over the Rainbow” never gets old. Might be a good idea to plan an afternoon or evening watching the original movie classic; the Walt Disney prequel, Oz The Great and Powerful; and The Wiz, starring Diana Ross and the late Michael Jackson.

History of India : The Significance of 12 September | dracula fun (Reblog)
My comments: The blog publisher says the incident is minimized in the record of history. But it says they gave land grants to the families of the slain soldiers, so – in my mind - the authority gave credit where credit was due. It's better to not get any mention in history than to serve faithfully and then have your family disregarded as if you didn't do anything at all. The family who lost a member who died as a valiant soldier more often than not probably depended on that person for their own survival. It's the least the country's leaders could do.

Book Recommendation : Women in History : Razia Sultana of India (Reblog)
EXCERPT: " ...Razia ascended the throne of Delhi at the age of 31. During her four-year reign from 1236, silver coins issued in her name bore her official title "Jalauddin" but she referred to herself as "lmadatun Niwan", which meant the Great Woman. Razia Sultana dressed like a man and rode an elephant through Delhi with her face unveiled....
Legends surrounding Razia have made her popular in Indian culture; the 1983 Urdu film Razia Sultan is a fictionalized account of her life, as is Rafiq Zakaria's novel, Razia: Queen "

Book below not mentioned at the blog post, but suggested if interested in other women like Razia, the Queen of India. It's a picture book suggested for ages 5 and up. I'm older than 5 which puts me in the "and up" group of readers. Picture books are wonderful quick reads and are just like a primer on a particular topic. They usually have great illustrations and the non-fiction books present the info like a quick summary. It whets your appetite and if you choose to do further research, you can search for books in the Juvenile/Young Adults section of the library for a more mature advanced reading level.
Legends surrounding Razia have made her popular in Indian culture; the 1983 Urdu film Razia Sultan is a fictionalized account of her life, as is Rafiq Zakaria's novel, Razia: Queen "

Holidays and Celebrations : Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Although my current residence is Austin, Texas and this city has many citizens of Mexican descent and Cinco de Mayo is celebrated, there isn't much for me to tell because nobody ever told me much about it. For those who might be interested in this holiday, below are a few links of interest.

Cinco de Mayo | Mexican history - Encyclopædia Britannica
This holiday is primarily observed by Mexican-Americans all over the United States to honor their heritage or roots. However, was born and raised in Miami, Florida and never heard of this day until we relocated to Texas.
Two other holidays celebrated in this state that were also unknown to me until we moved here: Texas Independence Day, March 2nd; and Juneteenth – June 19th.
Never knew anything about these special days. T.I.D. is unique to Texans but it's been said that Juneteenth is a worldwide celebration. Worldwide? Really?? Not sure what world I've been living in all this time, nevertheless … can no longer claim ignorance about any of these memorable events. There are important dots on the #timeline of #history of mankind and should not be ignored. :)

Real Lost Cities: Ophir or Atlantis?
King Solomon sent ships to Ophir to bring back almug (or algum) trees, along with gold and precious stones.
Research about Ophir's geographical location is scant.
In short, no one seems to know where it is!
If it is ever found, it will probably be by accident, because everybody keeps searching for Atlantis.
The last bit of recorded information we have about Ophir is that the ships that set sail to go there which were sent by another king, never made it to their destination!
So I can sort of understand why people would rather go look for Atlantis. Atlantis disappeared. Not the folks who were looking for it!!! (O.o)

magnificent splendor!!!

- 1 Kings 9:28 - And they came to Ophir, and fetched from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.
- 1 Kings 10:11 - And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees, and precious stones.
- 1 Kings 22:48 - Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.

History Markers : Terror From the Right: 1995 - 2014 | splc.org
Below is a concise summary of stories of plots, conspiracies and racist rampages, 1995 to 2014. Target? Democratic America. The number in parentheses is the count of how many events actually occurred.
First event was July 28, 1995: Anti-government extremist Charles Ray Polk indicted by federal grand jury for plotting to blow up the Internal Revenue Service building in Austin, Texas.
Last event dated June 8, 2014: Jerad Miller, 31, and his wife, Amanda, 22, shoot two police officers. The Millers perceived law enforcement as "oppressors" and reportedly told neighbors about their plans.

* * NOTE: SPLC has updated this list AFTER 2014. Events below ones I think should be mentioned.
2015 San Bernadino, California Attack.
2017 Mass Shooting at a country-music show at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas
Sadly, there continue to be additions to the list. No point splitting hairs over what constitutes a "terrorist act".
Some plots are aimed at the government.
Some people just aim at anything! Reason unknown. (O.o)
