Cedar Park, Texas – Small City-Town USA

Cedar Park, Texas is part of the Greater Austin Community.

It is is a small city-town, near Austin, Texas, the state capital, that was incorporated in 1973. Since 2005, the community’s population has grown by about 30%. In 2010 the population was a little under 50,000 and by 2015, it is projected that the population will have increased by another 30% to approximately 65,000.

The boundary lines encompass two Texas counties, Travis and Williamson, and it is is the third-largest city in the Austin Metro area.

It is a lovely and thriving family-oriented community with a rural feel to it; located just 20 minutes from downtown Austin, the state’s capital; making it close enough to provide easy access to all the facilities and services the big city has to offer. A current project, the Schlitterbahn Cedar Park; a water park resort, had a targeted opening date of May 2012; however, the incentive package expired. The City Council is still interested and they are optimistic about reaching their goal. Visit the city’s official website to view more projects.

Home building efforts for this lovely city can be credited to a response by the city’s economic development representatives who invited IBM (over a decade ago) to relocate their business to Austin, Texas. IBM indicated that if they accepted the invitation they would need a place to relocate their employees along with their families.

The real estate market consists mainly of single-family homes for sale, starting in the low-$100,000s and can go as high up to $650,000 plus. It has all the appeal of small-town charm with the conveniences of living in and living close to a metropolitan city. There are golf course properties, condominiums, townhouses; and land is also available for custom building. Investors (or home-buyers) can locate foreclosures, short sales, bank-owned properties, and other investment real estate.

Having lived in Cedar Park, Texas, it has my personal stamp of approval as a fabulous place to work, live and raise a family. Below are all of my plusses based on my family priorities:
  • Excellent schools
  • Low crime rate
  • Convenient access to major highways
  • Nice neighbors and nice neighboring communities (Leander, Georgetown, etc.)
Perfectly situated between metro Austin and the Texas Hill Country, it could easily be classed on any official listing of Best U.S. Cities to Live In. It’s a fine place to own your home, excellent for real estate investing, and a great place to retire.

The post archives for My Blog Stop! date back to 2014 and a lot has happened since then. That being the case, this post is to inform blog visitors about my multiple WAHM projects and redirect them to my other fun misadventures in the online world.

My posts at this blog which mainly discussed blogging and writing and other advice, tips and tricks for work-at-home professionals were exported to a new blog called My Blogging World.

2018 was a good year. 2019 was a better year, except for the month of December. My husband passed away. His heart finally gave out of him. I am blessed to have been married for 4 decades. I carry on because I know that's what he expects me to do.

So now it's 2020 and we are in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most people are staying at home and working at home. For me, there were no adjustments to be made because I've been working from home since 2007.

  • My newest project is publishing a newsletter: T_Fox's Newsletter. (I'm working on coming up with a more catchy name. That one sounds kind of drab, huh? LOL.)

There is a super easy-to-use tool provided by Substack, Inc. You can create an account free. You can set up your newsletter as a free subscription or a paid subscription. I set my newsletter up as a free subscription. My plan IF I get enough subscribers is to charge a small monthly fee or an annual fee. This is a long-term plan.

After all, ever since ad blockers, it has been very difficult to trying to monetize your websites and blogs. In addition, this health crisis has totally changed the way everybody does business.

My short-term plans include continuing with my work-at-home efforts that are showing some profit. These projects include:

So as you can see … I have been staying busy.

Entertainment: Movie Review : The Day After Tomorrow (2004)

For sci-fi fans and fans of Jake Gyllenhaal. I remember listening to a review by one of the critics that made me laugh. Paraphrasing his words, basically, he said:

  • “This is a typical storyline. Something devastating or catastrophic is going to happen on earth. And of course, the one who knows what it is, what to do, and tries to warn others is the very person that nobody listens to!!

This is a lighthearted movie review of a 2004 sci-fi film. Even though it’s 15 years old (as of 2019), it’s still relevant today. Plus! Fans of Jake Gyllenhaal, who want to know what he looked like as a teenager, will love this movie!

What the Official Movie Critics Said

Several official critics had a lot to say about “The Day After Tomorrow”. I remember a review by one of the official critics that made me laugh. Paraphrasing his words, he said:
  • “This is a typical storyline. Something devastating or catastrophic is going to happen on earth. Of course, there is one person who knows what it is, what to do, and tries to warn others is the very person that nobody listens to!!

What This Unofficial Movie Reviewer Says

If you believe in climate change, you’ll understand the storyline. What’s going to happen is there is going to be a drastic change in the weather and there will be freezing cold temperatures. Cold enough that people will die. If you believe in cryogenics, people won’t die. They’ll be instantly frozen. They can be thawed out later.

The Day After Tomorrow – Official® Trailer

Watched this movie and don’t want to spoil it for those who may not have seen it. (Although you might guess The End through the “hints” woven in between the lines of this discussion.)

Most Memorable Movie Scene

For me, there was only one memorable scene in the movie; a scene worth remembering because I love libraries.
In this scene, there is a group of people in a room in a library. It’s getting really cold! They have to do something to stay warm and since they’re in a library, they start burning books, grabbing any book within their reach and throwing it in the fireplace. They get ready to grab this one book and the man holding on it to refuses to let it go!
He goes: “You’re not burning this book!” He spills out his various reasons why “The Book” must not be destroyed.
Some debate and try to reason with him. Others are about to physically struggle to take the book away from him. Someone yells out that they have found an alternative set of books. No doubt every American would love to burn them! This is not one book. It is a set and has volumes upon volumes upon volumes. The group consensus is: “Yeah! Let’s burn those!!”
To me, that scene was totally hilarious fiction. The scene was also realistic. You could almost visualize that scenario actually happening in real life. If you’re an American taxpayer, you know you’ve thought of burning the U.S. Tax Code.

My Unofficial Movie Rating?  3.5 out of 5 stars and I’m being generous.

Ten Commandments in Christianity - INTRO

Some think or believe that these Divine edicts were done away with via Christianity. This is false. In Christian Scriptures, these Commandments are restated in the gospels by Jesus Christ and in the epistles by His Apostles.

This is a somewhat complicated study which hopefully is presented in a simplified, easy-to-read and understand format. Blessings!

Scriptural references for the Ten Commandments are found in the Jewish scriptures: Exodus 20: 1 -17 and also Deuteronomy 5: 1 - 21.

Some think or believe that these Divine edicts were done away with via Christianity. This is false. In Christian Scriptures, these Commandments are restated in the gospels by Jesus Christ and in the epistles by His Apostles.

* * *

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS Summarily Restated by Jesus Christ as the 1st and 2nd Greatest Commandments:

MATT 22: 36 - 40 * * * * *
  • 36) Master, which is the great commandment in the law?37) Jesus said unto him, THOU SHALT LOVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH ALL THY HEART, AND WITH ALL THY, AND WITH ALL THY SOUL, AND WITH ALL THY MIND.
  • 38) This is the first and great commandment.
  • 39) And the second is like unto it, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF.
  • 40) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

THE 2nd COMMANDMENT Also Summarily Restated by Apostle Paul:
ROM 13: 8 - 10 * * * * *

  • 8) Owe no man any thing but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
  • 9) For this, THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, THOU SHALT NOT KILL, THOU SHALT NOT STEAL, THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, THOU SHALT NOT COVET; and if there be any other commandment , it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF.
  • 10) Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

JESUS DID NOT COME TO DESTROY THE LAW OF MOSES:

MATT 5: 17 - 18 * * * * *
  • 17) Think not that I am come to destroy the law and the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
  • 18) For verily I say unto you, Til heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, til all be fulfilled.
MATT 16: 16 - 17 * * * * *
  • 16) The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of heaven and preached, and every man presseth into it.
  • 17) It is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

Ancient Greek and Roman Statues Shown in Their True Colors

Found this interesting blog called: moco-choco. Coffee? Chocolate? Neither! The first post visited was about a re-visualization of famous historical places and people based on "reality". For example, the pyramids of Giza were actually white and shiny. Who knew? Perception versus reality. It was an eye-opening blog post!

Food and Drink: Mexican Favorites - Recipes for Peace?

Published an article about a proposed solution to the "problem" of illegal immigration in the United States via HUBPages.com.  For the life of me, can't understand why everybody isn't on board with it!  Isn't the temptation of Mexican cuisine a persuasive enough argument?!  THINK "homemade fresh chorizo".  That's worth coming to an agreement, isn't it?

Entertainment: Classic Movies: The Manchurian Candidate

I heart vintage classic movies.  Don't you?

- The Manchurian Candidate (1962 original) which starred Frank Sinatra and Laurence Harvey, along with Angela Lansbury, is now a vintage classic.

- The 2004 movie remake starring Denzel Washington and Meryl Streep had the blessings of Tina Sinatra, daughter of the late Frank Sinatra.

The movies were film adaptations based on a novel, a 1959 Cold War thriller written by Richard Condon.

Both films are worth watching. But only of them is the best!

Won't be much longer now and all the glamorous Hollywood movie stars that I grew up watching will be forgotten. Stars like Humphrey Bogart, who was actually already dead by 1957, a couple of years after my birth. But no matter, he was so very alive for me every Sunday afternoon when one of his movies was on the air.  He was such a bad guy in most of his flicks.  Hated Him!  But loved him!!  His most memorable role was Duke Mantee, the gangster in "The Petrified Forest".

Bet you thought of Casablanca right?
