Santa Claus is Not the Only One Who Can Make A List (Slow Cooker Recipes)

Tried the List.ly tool today. My first attempt at list making was very simple. Created a list of the Best Crock Pot or Slow Cooker Chicken Recipes. (See below. Isn't it great?) Santa Claus is not the only one who can make a list.  :)

Signed up through my Facebook account and it was free. The first 3 lists created are Premium for free. If you choose not to "Go PRO" you can still use the tool via the free plan.  Once the list is made, you can share easily and also use the embed feature like for this post, and present the list as a slideshow or use one of the other display formats that are available.

A Week of Dickens: Resources on His Life, Works, Walks, and London : Faith, Fiction, Friends (Reblog)

Well my weekend is starting off really well. I should hashtag everything #FabFriday.  First, I found a beautiful flower pic on Tumblr. Then I plucked this gem out of the posts stream for the Authentic Blogger Group on Facebook. This post is sure to delight all lovers and loyal fans of Charles Dickens.  Did you know that if you have an Amazon Kindle, you can buy the entire collection of Dickens' works for $1.99. Good literature that's priceless and inexpensive. Can it get any better? 😄

Stop the insanity! Keep Google+ Community posts off your profile. - The Social Media Hat (Reblog)

Don't Spam Yourself on Google Plus

Many newbies who have created a Google Plus profile or page are anxious to share their links in Google Plus communities. This is a good thing, mainly because the G+ community membership usually far outnumbers the followers you have in your social circles.

  • Google Plus limits the number of followers to 5000 for personal profiles. (See Side Note below.)

  • Whereas, I've seen some G+ communities with over 50,000 members. Thus, there is more opportunity for exposure and hopefully getting traffic to your website or blog, if you share links via the communities.

* Important Social Media Tip!*
When you share the same post in several G+ communities, you need to turn off the feature that allows your post to also show up in your public post stream. Otherwise, when people visit your G+ profile or page, they will see multiple entries of the same thing over and over and over. You actually give the impression that you're spamming yourself.  It's a common mistake for newbies to make.

I get my social media tips from Mike Allton, publisher of The Social Media Hat blog.

He says: Don't spam yourself!!

Then he explains how to stop the insanity.

● ● ●
Side Note: Mike Allton's G+ professional profile boasts over 186,000 followers. The business page or brand account associated with his website/blog, The Social Media Hat, has over 8,000 followers.

Google offers professional or business profiles (may or may not be for a price) and those profiles show that you can have more than 5K followers. I don't have the details. If you want to know more, search for “Google My Business”.

By the way: Have any of you ever seen spam in that many different varieties? I would love to try the Hot &Spicy.

21 Magazines That Pay for Travel Writing (Reblog)

Some of my fellow bloggers have a passion to write about their wanderlust.  Reblogging this list provided by Erica Verrillo, publisher of Publishing ... and Other Forms of Insanity.

Idea? 💡

  • Perhaps you can turn some of your memorable travel photographs into works of art and resell them as art. It's a thought.

If you are not a travel writer, do not despair.  Here are links to other income-earning writing opportunities.  Perhaps there is one for you (and me).

15 Magazines That Pay $500 or More

While most literary journals generally offer modest compensation (if any), there are some magazines that pay generous professional rates. Many of these specialize in niche markets, which means they have a loyal readership. If you happen to have the expertise or a background that would appeal to their audiences, these magazines will be happy to read your pitch.

Spell Up | Fun Game to Improve Your Spelling Skills

Spell Up is a fun game powered by your voice and Google Chrome.

Love word games. But I am a faithful Firefox browser user. "Me old lady dog what don't wanna learn new tricks."  :)

So I won't be able to have any fun with this game. But if you're a Chrome user? Enjoy!

Google's voice-activated Spell Up game hones your speling skills

We've seen charming and freaky in Google's games, but the search giant has a nobler aim with its latest experiment: improving your English skills. Spell Up is a mishmash of a spelling bee, Wheel of Fortune and Jumble, with voice recognition thrown in for good measure.

This TIP is not about which browser you prefer but it is about tech stuff, so I'm mentioning it.  Thinking of relocating to Austin, Texas - WHERE I LIVE?
FYI.  City of Austin is very nice place to work (or invest).  Cedar Park, Texas, part of the Greater Austin Community is a great place to live (or invest).  Just sayin'.

Growing My Facebook Network

One of the members in another community wrote about social media addiction.  I'm not addicted to social media. For me, it's a form of free advertising; plain and simple. I have affiliate marketing websites and blogs. I have to share them somewhere to get traffic to them. But it's also a way to meet new people and make friends; something that's hard to do since I work from home.  Been active on Facebook for well about 10 years. Shared my experience growing my network.

Update to My First Blog Post at My Blog Stop!

Three years ago during the first week of the month of April 2014, I was just starting up this blog.

Don't laugh at me, laugh with me. 🤣

If you view my post ~ MyFirst Blog Post at My Blog Stop! Welcome! ~ you will see that out of all of my attempts at publishing blogs, only one blog is still standing as of 2017. Yep yep. All of my Tumblr microblogs took a tumble and went by the wayside. 😞

If at first you don't succeed … cry cry cry … and then try try tryagain!!

Created a brand new Tumblr account and started up two microblogs: FoxNet2017 and FoodWays2017. Sharing two sample posts below.

Created a foodie blog using Blogspot to complement/supplement my affiliate marketing website:

Kept my membership with the Blogjob (BJ) community and continued to share advice for newbie bloggers via My Pain, Your Gain.

Since the BJ community allows more than one blog, created a second blog for affiliate marketing purposes and called it My Shopping Channel.

Still maintaining my Google Plus business page (or brand account), "Home Business Works"; and Google granted me a custom URL for the page (in place of the numerical ID).

That's the update!

Websites, blogging (and vlogging) are an integral part of the Internet landscape. People who were “old school” who did not even want to build websites for their businesses realized that websites are just like an advertisement in the Yellow Pages. So they took the time to create a web page because it was just good business sense.

YP Walking FingersRemember the Yellow Pages? It was a huge phone directory where you could find names, addresses and phone numbers of businesses. It was a big thick book that everybody used. These days, even the Yellow Pages has a website! You can’t fight progress! ?

  • Business history trivia: Did you know that the “Walking Fingers” was never trademarked.

Back on point. No sooner than the business person accepts that they need a website, they usually also understand that the next step to complement and supplement their site and to enhance their online reputation and presence on the web, getting the word out to others, is to add on a blog. Why? Well because the “experts” say that the blog shows potential clients or customers that you’re good at what you do since you know how to write about it and can provide tips and advice.

For many businesses and personal bloggers, Blogger or Blogspot, the official Google platform is the preferred publishing platform. If you are a newbie blogger and you are the DIY type (Do It Yourself), Blogspot is a good platform because it provides free templates or themes, gadgets or widgets, allows affiliate advertising, allows Google Ad Sense or Ad Sense alternatives, and the Blogger Team regularly supplies “how to” tips and tricks via its blog or social media accounts.

I have been using the Blogger or Blogspot platform for my home business projects for over 5 years. No doubt the free template I use has been around much longer than that.

On March 20, 2017, the Blogger Team announced that Blogspot has brand new themes.

Whew! What a relief!

It’s a relief that Google is not abandoning its free blogging platform. For a while there was a story being circulated – unofficially – that owning and maintaining this platform did not make good business sense, it was not profitable, and Google might discontinue it.

What? Glad these rumors have not become reality. I’m not an expert but how I see it: ‘If Google can’t offer a free publishing platform for businesses and wanna be bloggers, what kind of example is that for a tech giant to set for others in the technology world. Really!”

So I spent several hours testing and trying out this new set of blog themes. These new templates are wonderful but …

But in the end, my decision was to stick with the Ethereal theme. It suits my purposes.  Would I recommend them to other aspiring bloggers?  Yes.

  • Do you have a blog?
  • Which blogging platform do you use?
  • Which theme or template did you choose?

Celebrating Asian-American Contemporary Artists

Giana Nguyen-Foster is a Vietnamese-American singer/songwriter. We connected via Facebook back in 2011, the same year her debut solo EP, "For Now ", had been released. At that time she was promoting herself by collaborating with other musicians, and performing at shows in the Southern California area.

(NOTE: At the time of the posting the paintings were on exhibit; not at the time of this reblogging.) The Okyo artwork motivated me to search for more pictures, photos, and illustrations of cranes.

My Five (5) Good Fortunes

We can all write our fortunes. In my case my daughter wrote 5 good fortunes for me. Her predictions for my future are greatly appreciated and if her advice is heeded no reason why they won't come true. :) Next time you have a party, consider giving out homemade fortune cookies.

Perleman's Content Strategy Tip : Gotta Respect the Queen

It's been around a few years but I haven't quite latched on to BuzzFeed craze (if it is a craze).  But it may be a powerful tool according to Jonathan Pereleman (head of BuzzFeed).  Besides, I like when people figure out a way to insert a Queen in the game plan.  😍

Although I don't know how to play chess, I do know the queen is the most powerful piece in the game of chess.  Somehow the idea of that is very appealing to me.  I can't explain why.  I'm not really a power-monger.  I believe it's because the queen is a woman that even though she's called "powerful", her power (or strength) is in her compassion and gentleness, like Queen Esther.  That's a generalization, of course.  Some women who get to reign can be real bloody heifers, like Jezebel and her daughter, Athaliah!

(Image credit:   Lord of the Rings Collector Chess Set
32 playing pieces made in fine pewter bear an amazing resemblance to the characters in the film. )

Regardless of whether or not you can understand my flawless logic, I'm sharing and keeping this video link for education and reference.
