My Top 10 List of Iconic Female Celebrities

In America, we love to apply the word “icon” to people who sort of serve as symbols or are symbolic of something much larger than themselves, and are representative of an ideal that we, as individuals, hope to achieve in life. It's almost as if these people are idols. Almost.

A better way to explain our usage of this term would be by sharing my first time hearing it applied to a well-known figure. My first time hearing the word used was a report where people were speaking of Lee Iacocca. What did this man do to have people call him an “icon”? He's an American businessman, in the automobile industry, who (based on my recollection of events) brought the Chrysler Corporation back to life. Evidently, because of his prowess as a business warrior, he stepped up, took the helm as CEO of ailing and failing business entity, revived it and steered to success. For accomplishing this impossible feat, people showered praises on him as if he were a god of the American automotive industry.

As time passed, the word “icon” started popping up everywhere and is especially used for entertainers, such as, Madonna. Why is she an icon? “Madonna could be considered one of the most successful women of all time.” (Quote source: Madonna: Icon (and Single Working Mother with Custody Issues) | The Huffington Post)

Another example? Beyoncé was selected as the 2016 CFDA Fashion Icon. (CFDA = Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc.)

Once read an article published at Listverse.com about Hollywood suicides. The full title of the article is “10 Iconic Actresses Who Tragically Ended Their Lives”. After reviewing the list of female celebrities, the facts presented about their deaths were indeed tragic, but describing the actresses as “iconic” kind of made me bristle. It didn't seem to jive with other people in the entertainment industry who were being described as “iconic”.

So! Decided to compile my own list of actresses who should be considered “iconic”. Nixed the requirement that that they had to have committed suicide.

Hmmm …? Now where would be the best place to start to find those sort of people very quickly? The iconic Life Magazine. Of course!

Here's my list of ten (10) female iconic celebrities (not all are actresses, but they are famous or recognizable). The parenthetical notes are my rationale or reasons why these women measure up to the criteria that sets them apart as icons.

What is a Universal Language of Light?

Sharing a link to an article written by a fellow freelance writer

What is a Universal Language of Light?

  • Quote extracted from the article: “Modern research confirms the most ancient form of Hebrew to be a natural language; the alphabetic forms emerging from the phosphate flare patterns of the brain.”

(NOTE:  Link to an archived copy.  The article was unpublished.)
This is my first time learning, hearing or reading about a “Universal Language of Light”. The research results do make you wonder. However, I am convinced that God invented all human languages because I believe the biblical account of the tower of Babel. If Genesis 11 is true, then any human language is a “language of The Light”.

  • The article also contains an interesting question: “Is DNA the next Internet?”
It seems that Russian scientists have made some claims. Next? I’m not trying to split hairs or “strain at a gnat and swallow a camel”, but DNA was here first! Just sayin’. This article is fascinating!!

What is a Universal Language of Light?

Some call it the Language of Consciousness or the living language of light. Many people worldwide are now re-discovering this ancient Language that lies at the heart of so many spiritual traditions. Modern research confirms the most ancient form of Hebrew to be a natural language; the alphabetic forms emerging from the phosphate flare patterns of the brain.

Happy Veterans Day!

It’s November 11th. Happy Veterans Day!

Never served in the military but was hired by the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs and given the honor of working side by side with many who did serve in this country's armed forces. A deeply heartfelt shout out to my former co-workers at DVA and a salute to all U.S. Veterans everywhere - those who have served, those currently serving, and a special dedication to the memory of the men and women of valor who sacrificed their lives.

  • November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of "the war to end all wars".
  • 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day
  • With the approval of P.. 380 on June 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.
  • October 8th, 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the first "Veterans Day Proclamation".

Bob Marley - Rastaman Trivia 2

February 6th was the singer’s birthday. But there was this interesting article at Bubblews about his memorial services with some trivia to be shared. You never know when you may need to know it! Rather than wait for May 11th, the anniversary of Mr. Marley’s death, my reasoning was that since it was still February, it could be considered a sort belated birthday remembrance.

May 11th has come and gone, but it’s still May. When it comes to perfect timing … Eh! What can I say? My timing is off!! Found two more links which are being added to my collection of Marley trivia and tidbits.

#1) Bob Marley - The Life and Death Of a Reggae Legend

A condensed, concise and precise, well-written biography in a nutshell penned by BethanRose, a writer based in South Wales.

#2) How Bob Marley was Assassinated By the CIA

Always suspected the attempt on Mr. Marley’s life had political motive, but must admit that this is the first time reading so much detail about CIA involvement. Written by Marvin (no last name given) using a pen name “rasta1”. It is an undeniable observation that many reggae entertainers have been shot and killed, but the writer states that the life of Bob Marley was “spared due to the mystical intervention of JAH Rastafari”. Can’t say whether this report is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, but can say – by way of my opinion – that the article certainly does have elements that sound convincing enough to be true!

Quotes and Notes : Philosophy : Confucius Wisdom and Quotes

According to the famous Roman orator and lawyer Cicero:

"There is nothing so absurd that it has not been said by some philosopher." (Yawn.)

The yawn may or may not have been included when he made that comment. But Rome was loaded with philosophers and they had a habit of congregating on Mars Hill daily and just ... babbling. Meanwhile, on another part of planet earth ...

To contrast with a teacher from the Far East:

"3 methods to learn wisdom: by reflection, which is noblest; by imitation, which is easiest; and by experience, which is the bitterest."

Words of wisdom from one who probably lived his life as a simple common ordinary man, but who is today acknowledged by many around the world as one the world's most sensible common sense philosophers. When it comes to Confucianism, many would insist that Cicero's quote does not apply.

A brief bio-snapshot:

- Life span: About 70 years (c. 551 B.C - c. 479 B.C.)

- Born and buried in Chu-foo (or Qufu or Lu).

- Served as Public Administrator for 15 years (532 B.C. - 517 B.C.); afterward, he studied and taught the Chinese classics, and spread his philosophy.

- His sayings were published posthumously as the "Analects of Confucius".

- The Prince of Lu consecrated his home as a temple, two years after he died.

Do You Admire the Wisdom of Confucius?

I do.

To practice 5 things under all circumstances constitutes perfect virtue: gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness, and kindness.  ~ Confucius

Why Should We Be Thankful For Social Media? (Especially Twitter)

Is there is one thing we can all thank social media for? Yes! QUOTES!

No matter how you’re feeling, ...
No matter who you’re trying to impress, inspire and motivate, ...
No matter if you just need that perfect statement to begin or end your speech or your sermon …

Just scan social media posts.  Especially Twitter!

There’s got to be a quote for it!

  • Tech developers say there's an app for that.
  • Senator Elizabeth Warren says there's a plan for that.
  • With social media, whatever "that" is, there's a quote for that.

In many instances, you will find just the quote you were looking for and in some instances, you’ll find a nice image that goes with it. It might be a photo or drawing of the person who is being quoted. It might just be a pretty picture or a thought-provoking image that is perfectly suited to the quote.

Whether you find the words or the words with an appropriate picture, you are bound to find the quotes that will keep you going! Words that make you happy, make you thankful, make you stronger, make you think. Words that help you prioritize, give you perspective, focus you, and push you forward.

To that last tweet, I quote myself: “NOT! Uhh … you posted this on social media.” (O.o)

Quotes and humor keep me going. ☺
Hope these quotes keep you going too!

Movie Review : 'Mahogany' Taught the True Value of Being a Success

"Success is nothing without someone you love to share it with."

That's my takeaway quote from the 1975 film "Mahogany".

Agree or disagree?

There was once a time when Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams were an "item"; for movie couples, that is. They had great onscreen chemistry but never a real-life romance.

They had a romantic relationship in the film Mahogany (1975).  A movie that is memorable for its really nice theme song and great fashion; especially that Bob Mackie rainbow dress Ms. Ross wore in one of the scenes. When it comes to fashion, beauty, and style though, in real life, Ms. Ross was and still is one of the best-dressed women in the entertainment business; onscreen and off. Click through to view a fabulous gown she's wearing in the video for this September 2014 article:

Diana Ross : Still a 'Supreme' Performer

Nothing much to say about this motion picture that you can't look up on Wikipedia. That quote about success struck a chord with me though.  That's it!  That's my movie review.

Entertainment: Celebrities: In Memory of: Doris Day (1922 - 2019)

Must say good-bye to "America's girl next door" and Hollywood legend, Doris Day.  She had a major influence on my childhood development.  She charmed me.  That was her appeal.  I think she charmed everyone; publicly and privately.  I loved all of her movies.  No really.  There is not one movie she starred in that I did not like.

For me, the most memorable movie was the one where she sang "Que sera, sera" and she had to land that airplane: The Man Who Knew Too Much.  It was a departure from her usually light-hearted comedy roles.  That movie was very serious and she played her part quite convincingly.  I have wonderful memories of this fine actress.

She wasn't included in My Top 10 List of Iconic Female Celebrities' even though she suits the definition for "iconic". It's because she deserves a spotlight all her own.

My Favorite Power Quote 4 (3, 2, and 1)

Isn't this like one of the best motivational quotes you've ever heard?  Something new, just recently started and as you can see by the post title this is the fourth quote added the collection.  The other three were shared at my other blogs.

Gifts for the Tolkien Enthusiast

One might think that I got the idea of power quotes from a site like BrainyQuote, which is a great site if you need to find a quote by a famous or notable person very quickly.  But that's not how it came to me.  You see being a student of the Bible, you have what are called "memory verses".  Particular scriptures that you want to memorize and be able to recall when needed.  Well there used to be a religious publication (apologies for not being able to remember the name) and they had something referred to as "power verses".  A memory verse that gave you power!  It's like a "Get thee behind me Satan" verse you use to thwart those who try to trouble you.  Yeah.  You think of the verse instead of punching the person in the face or yelling at them.  Don't know if this is a technique used in anger management classes, but it works for me!

At any rate, taking the idea a step further, because quote collecting is my hobby and blogging is my home business endeavor, the two were joined in marriage and so far the union seems to be quite useful!

My Favorite Power Quote 3

Started collecting these types of quotes wherever I find them.  This one is Number 3. was grabbed from Facebook. “Worry is a misuse of imagination.”

Always Laugh When You Can ... | We Heart It

Started using WHI (We Heart It). Know what you're thinking. There's Pinterest, Scoop.it, StumbleUpon, etc. Why create another set of collections? Why? Because they share really good stuff on WHI that is different from my findings elsewhere on the web and because it's so easy to click that little “heart” button on the images. I have a Tumblr blog and lots of folks on Tumblr use it. That's how I found the site.

This lovely quote by Lord Byron is my 100th “heart”. ♥
